00:04And with the World Cup heading to Casablanca in 2030,
00:08it is not unrealistic to consider the Atlas Lions contenders
00:12for the biggest prize in football.
00:15We must prepare this team well to win the World Cup one day.
00:23Even if that sounds too much, we can say we tried.
00:31There will be ways to achieve it, but if the group doesn't believe,
00:34you have no chance.
00:36That's what I'm talking about.
00:37I insist on the collective spirit.
00:39If there is not that, there will be nothing.
00:45Morocco broke new ground for North African football
00:48by reaching the semifinals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
00:55In the group phase, they stunned pre-tournament favourites Belgium 2-0.
01:00Then edged past Spain on penalties
01:02before adding the scalp of Portugal in the quarter-finals.
01:08After 36 years, we are making history again,
01:11and we have celebrated it.
01:16We have been very happy, dancing and celebrating in the locker room.
01:20These days have been unforgettable and indescribable.
01:26France proved too strong in the semis,
01:29but there was jubilation amongst the travelling support
01:31for the team's history-making.
01:35It's more than a dream, it's incredible.
01:37It's national pride.
01:39It is historic what we are doing for our football
01:41and the lessons that we are giving ourselves.
01:43We are not seeing life as before.
01:45This changed our mindset.
01:47We are hanging from the lips of our coach.
01:50We can make it.
01:51We might not have the same chances in the game.
01:53We might not have the same infrastructure as the other teams.
01:57We might not have any hope to make it.
02:00But with a lot of heart and a lot of blessing, we will.
02:06Qatar 2022 extended Morocco's pioneering legacy
02:10for African football.
02:12In 1970, they became the first team from the continent to earn a point
02:16when they drew one-all with Bulgaria.
02:20Then, at Mexico 86,
02:22they became the first African side to reach the round of 16.
02:34The first African nation to win their match at the World Cup
02:37was Tunisia
02:39when they beat Mexico 3-1 in 1978.
02:43The Eagles of Carthage
02:45grew into an established international side
02:47during the 1970s.
02:49But it would not be until 2004
02:51that they would have anything to show for it.
02:57On home soil,
02:59Tunisia won their only Africa Cup of Nations to date,
03:02defeating heavyweights Morocco,
03:04Nigeria and Senegal
03:06en route to the title.
03:09The victory made coach Roger Lemaire
03:10the first in world football
03:12to win the Continental Championship
03:13in two confederations
03:15after previously leading France to glory
03:18at Euro 2000.
03:28Algeria are enjoying the fruits of a golden generation,
03:32led by the outstanding Riyad Mahrez.
03:35The highlight so far came in 2019,
03:39when they secured only the second AFCON title in their history
03:43and on Egyptian soil.
03:47Getting to the heart of it,
03:48we're African champions after 29 years.
03:51It's unbelievable,
03:53especially to be African champions away from our own country.
03:56The last one was in Algeria in 1990.
04:00African champions away is extraordinary.
04:04Prior to this,
04:06Algeria's greatest legacy on the biggest stage
04:09was being the victims of what became known
04:11as the disgrace of Guijon.
04:15In the 1982 World Cup,
04:18the Fenix caused one of the great upsets
04:20with a 2-1 victory
04:21over reigning European champions,
04:24West Germany.
04:27By the final match in the group
04:29between West Germany and Austria,
04:31with Algeria having already played
04:33their final group game the day before,
04:36the European teams knew
04:37that a West German win by one or two goals
04:40would qualify them both.
04:43After 10 minutes of all-out attack,
04:46West Germany scored.
04:48Then immediately afterwards,
04:49the two teams declined to attack
04:51for the rest of the match.
04:56Algeria protested to FIFA,
04:58who ruled that the result be allowed to stand.
05:01Then later introduced a revised system
05:04in which the final two games in each group
05:06had to be played simultaneously.
05:15Egypt are an enigma of international football.
05:21They are record seven-time AFCON champions,
05:25but have only appeared at three World Cups
05:28and have yet to win a match
05:30on the game's greatest stage,
05:32boasting English Premier League stars
05:35Mohamed Salah and Omar Mahmouche.
05:38The future looks bright,
05:40but those two individuals are outliers,
05:43with the vast majority of Egyptian internationals
05:45playing their trade in the domestic league.
05:47While this is a testament
05:49to the strength of the local competition,
05:51it is arguably holding back the pharaohs
05:54as a World Cup contending football nation.
05:57have all made kraut,
05:57they will say about a title
05:57they will say there is no joy,
05:57the next-year in the world.
05:59We will keep齟 vezes
