00:00NBA draft last night.
00:01The NBA draft last night was interesting to me
00:04because I think it's a byproduct now
00:07of not so much NIL, but the portal.
00:10The NBA draft used to be a must-see event
00:12for us as basketball fans.
00:13Whether your team was picking top two or three or not,
00:16it was another basketball event
00:18that we all wanted to watch.
00:19If you could attend it when it was in New York,
00:21I went to a couple of them.
00:23I feel like I don't think I've hosted them.
00:25No, but I've been to Newark.
00:27There was a couple in Newark.
00:28I went to ones in Newark.
00:29Yeah, and I remember when I did live and work
00:31in Philadelphia, I would go to the Sixers draft party.
00:35So again, I was a big draft guy.
00:37But because of the portal, in my opinion,
00:40and because there's so many one-and-done guys now,
00:43and there's no attachment where,
00:45man, I saw that guy playing three Final Fours, right?
00:48Or I know that guy from this school or that school.
00:51When you take a look at the kids
00:54that were drafted last night,
00:55now I know you and I know some of the kids.
00:58I'll be honest.
00:59I didn't know all of them.
01:00There were kids that got drafted last night,
01:02even in the top 20.
01:04Forget about the entire first round,
01:05who I'd never heard of before,
01:07and I'm not quite sure if I've even seen them play.
01:10And it was interesting to me
01:12because it was kind of a letdown last night.
01:15Like, I know DeBansta,
01:17DeBansta, whatever you pronounce it.
01:18Yeah.
01:18The kid that played at Utah.
01:20And the last thing I thought about him was,
01:22what a disappointment he was in college.
01:26But he wasn't.
01:26Despite making all the money he made.
01:28But he wasn't.
01:28They didn't do anything.
01:30That wasn't.
01:30Right?
01:30He was excellent.
01:32He didn't play on a great team.
01:32Not in that first round, he wasn't.
01:35It's about one basketball.
01:36Right.
01:37But again, he's not synonymous with the college team.
01:40He had a very disappointing postseason last year.
01:43Then you have Peterson,
01:45who's supposed to be the best player,
01:46you know, coming in as a freshman.
01:49Who, again, a very disappointing college career
01:51based on expectation.
01:53And a kid that we saw a lot throughout the year
01:55came out of a lot of games.
01:57And the word on him throughout the season was,
02:00kid doesn't love it.
02:01Yeah.
02:01You know, took himself out of a lot of games.
02:03Right?
02:04So, I don't know what your feeling was
02:06watching it last night.
02:07And, yes, I'm a Knicks fan.
02:09And the draft is for losers.
02:10So, the New York Knicks, you know,
02:12not taking a pick.
02:13Really, in the first round.
02:14Because the kid they did draft,
02:15they went trading afterwards.
02:17So, they did not have a first round pick,
02:19which is more about money than anything else.
02:21A way to stay under the apron
02:22as they try to re-sign their own players.
02:25But I got to be honest.
02:27I was disappointed in the draft.
02:29It wasn't exciting.
02:30There weren't household names.
02:32There wasn't a guy I've seen
02:34play in multiple tournaments.
02:35And other than the three kids
02:37that got picked by Michigan,
02:39who we saw more of because they obviously went on,
02:42you know, that great run in the tournament
02:43and won a championship.
02:46I thought this was the worst NBA draft
02:48I've ever seen.
02:49Absolutely.
02:49And I blame the portal for it.
02:51It absolutely was not.
02:52Yeah.
02:53You hate it.
02:53You texted me.
02:54I hate this.
02:55First of all, if they're one and done,
02:56they couldn't have possibly used the portal.
02:58And one and done is not new.
03:00Okay?
03:00I hate it.
03:01Also talking about there was a bunch of drafts
03:03that had a bunch of high school guys
03:04who you definitely didn't see.
03:06You had an opportunity to see
03:08all but the European players.
03:10You had an opportunity to see all of them.
03:12Not really, though.
03:13Yes, you did.
03:13Okay.
03:14Let's name some of the schools.
03:15Go ahead.
03:16Do it.
03:16Do it.
03:16All right.
03:17So, and see if you've ever heard of these schools.
03:20Yes.
03:20BYU you've heard of.
03:22Kansas.
03:22Yeah, but do I see BYU play a lot?
03:24Not until the tournament I don't.
03:25Okay, I did.
03:26To be fair.
03:26They play in the Big 12.
03:27Okay, good.
03:28Okay.
03:29Kansas.
03:30Kansas.
03:31A horrendous season.
03:32Hold on.
03:32Duke.
03:33Duke, of course I know.
03:33North Carolina.
03:35Didn't make the tournament this year.
03:36Hold on.
03:37Because their best player, who was fourth of the world,
03:38got hurt.
03:39Okay.
03:39All right.
03:40Illinois.
03:41Who made the Final Four?
03:42You saw him.
03:43He made the Final Four.
03:44I like to call it Illinois, but go ahead.
03:46Okay.
03:47Louisville.
03:47Louisville.
03:48Is Rick Pitino still there?
03:50Yeah.
03:50Haven't watched them since he left.
03:52Who else?
03:53Arkansas.
03:54Arkansas.
03:54Of course.
03:55Calipari.
03:57Can you name two guys on the Razorbacks?
03:59None of us can.
04:00Wait a minute.
04:01Yeah.
04:01First of all, A.
04:02The one kid who should have gotten six to the net.
04:04And then, Wagner Jr.
04:06Okay.
04:07I forgot about that.
04:07All right.
04:08All right.
04:08Fair point.
04:09You have Michigan.
04:10I said three kids run for Michigan.
04:12Tennessee.
04:13Tennessee's garbage program, to be honest.
04:15Come on.
04:16Washington.
04:16You watch Tennessee football.
04:17We don't watch Tennessee basketball.
04:18Here's the bottom line.
04:19Yeah.
04:20If you didn't like the draft, that's fine.
04:22I did not.
04:23But this was not the worst draft, because you had the opportunity to see these players.
04:27There used to be high school players in this draft, all up and down, and you never saw
04:31them play.
04:31I would say this to you.
04:32This was not the worst stuff.
04:33Now, I think people have claimed this might be one of the deeper drafts in the last three
04:37or four years.
04:38I think it is.
04:38It was the least fun draft to watch, and I've watched every draft for the last 47 years.
04:44I think it is.
