00:00U.S. President Donald Trump has criticized NATO allies for not backing Washington's military campaign against Iran,
00:08saying he was let down by their lack of support.
00:12Trump made the remarks during talks in Washington with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte,
00:17who is seeking to ease transatlantic tensions over the Iran conflict and U.S. security commitments in Europe.
00:25I think if anybody else were in that position, we wouldn't even be meeting today, to be honest with you,
00:31because we were let down. We didn't need help on this at all.
00:35We demolished them in literally the first week.
00:39But it would have been nice if they would have said, we'd like to help.
00:42I just want their loyalty. We don't need their money. We don't need anything.
00:46We have the most powerful military in the world by far.
00:49But I just want loyalty. You know, we're so loyal to them.
00:52And we're always fighting for them. We have thousands of troops all over Europe.
00:58In Germany, we have 50,000 troops. And then you want a little, give us a little nudge, give us
01:03a little kiss.
01:04In response, Rutte defended NATO's role, saying thousands of U.S. aircraft operated from bases across Europe during the conflict.
01:12After the meeting, he also sought to reassure allies, saying Trump remains fully committed to NATO
01:18and that the United States would defend Europe if it came under attack.
01:22Iran, meanwhile, condemned Rutte's remarks, accusing NATO of openly admitting its role in what Tehran has called an unlawful war.
01:31Trump's criticism of NATO comes just two weeks before NATO leaders are set to meet in Ankara,
01:36where questions over defense, burden-sharing and America's role in Europe are expected to dominate the agenda.
01:43Iran will be seen inRAIN in incorporate a few times before NATO's role in WHO is among these conflicts.
