00:01Thank you for staying with India Today. I'm Suesha Samantan.
00:03We cut across to big breaking news just coming in.
00:05Trump's latest tirade against NATO where he's put out a tweet that reads,
00:09and I quote, without the USA, NATO is a paper tiger.
00:14Those are the exact words he has used in this post.
00:16That continues to read, they did not want to join the fight to stop a nuclear-powered Iran.
00:22Now that fight is militarily won, with very little danger for them,
00:27they complain about the high oil prices they are forced to pay,
00:32but don't want to help open the Strait of Hormuz.
00:35A simple military maneuver that is the single reason for the high oil prices.
00:40So easy for them to do, with so little risk,
00:44cowards, and we will remember President Donald J. Trump.
00:49That's the exact post that he's put out, where he's called the NATO cowards,
00:54and he's angry about the NATO not helping the US,
00:57with the Strait of Hormuz and its opening.
01:00Let me go to my colleague Geeta Mohan now.
01:03Joining us on the broadcast,
01:05Geeta, is Trump building more enemies than he had imagined?
01:08Well, he has indeed opened up multiple fronts,
01:11but this is a front he'd opened up much before,
01:13long before he even thought of attacking Iran.
01:16The American-NATO problem has been one of the first of the problems that Donald Trump has been looking at.
01:25And it has now culminated with NATO not involving itself in the war against Iran.
01:32And with the indications that some of the countries would want to send naval assets for safe passage of vessels,
01:39after the oil prices have shot up,
01:43the US president has come out,
01:45and this is a clear jibe against NATO,
01:48calling it a paper tiger,
01:50and saying that now they do not need,
01:52or America does not need,
01:53NATO's assistance or help.
01:56Having said that,
01:56there is a lot that needs to be done
01:58when it comes to a safe passage
02:01in the Strait of Hormuz.
02:03One will have to wait and see
02:04whether if NATO countries will get involved or not.
02:07But for now,
02:08the fact that there's a clear threat in that message
02:10where he says,
02:11we will remember,
02:13is something that will translate into how America is looking at the Russia-Ukraine war.
02:18So, we are watching that space when it comes to wars, conflicts,
02:22and how America is dealing with its erstwhile allies, I should say,
02:26because they no longer look or seem like they're allies.
02:31Peter, thank you for bringing that into perspective.
02:33For the benefit of our viewers,
02:34let's quickly recount what Trump has written in this post.
02:40He's written,
02:40without the USA,
02:41NATO is a paper tiger.
02:43They did not want to join the fight to stop a nuclear-powered Iran.
02:47Now that fight is militarily won,
02:49with very little danger for them.
02:52They complain about the high oil prices they are forced to pay,
02:55but don't want to help open the Strait of Hormuz.
02:58That is the sticky point for Trump at this point.
03:01As this post continues to read,
03:03a simple military maneuver that is the single reason for the high oil prices.
03:08So easy for them to do with so little risk.
03:12Cowards and we will remember President Donald J. Trump.
03:16Now, how much of a thaw will this be between the US and NATO?
03:21He's not just called them cowards,
03:24but he also wants their military intervention
03:27when it comes to the opening of the Strait of Hormuz,
03:30which he says is the reason for the high oil prices.
03:34And he also says that for the NATO,
03:36it is so easy for them to do with so little risk.
03:39I'll see you in the next few seconds
03:39because he's in the next few seconds of the National Anthem.
