00:00Iran's Revolutionary Guard has warned that only shipping routes approved by Tehran may be used to transit the Strait of
00:07Hormuz,
00:08raising fresh questions over control of one of the world's most strategic waterways.
00:14The IRGC says any uncoordinated passing are not acceptable and that vessels must follow Iranian navigation rules or face action.
00:24The warning comes as the UN's international maritime organizations and regional partners launch an operation to help more than 11
00:33,000 stranded seafarers leave the Gulf.
00:36Under the plan, Oman has set up temporary shipping corridors to keep traffic moving safely through the Strait without imposing
00:43tolls.
00:44Tehran, however, has said it intends to introduce what it calls maritime service fees in the future,
00:50while insisting it should play a key role in managing navigation.
00:54The United States and its allies have pushed back against any such fees or tolls,
00:59arguing they would undermine freedom of navigation.
01:03Meanwhile, Oman and Iran have agreed to continue talks on the future management of the Strait,
01:08including services and potential costs.
