00:00How can Adam Silver, the commissioner of the sport, address this and make this a little bit more understandable for
00:06the fans?
00:07Because, Ian, disposable revenue right now and income that fans have to spend money.
00:12If I'm showing up to a facility, an arena, my favorite players aren't there.
00:16Help me understand why I should show up and care if the players aren't showing up and caring.
00:20How much do you think that this is a factor here with the NBA?
00:24I think Adam Silver is very much bothered by it, and it's something that he is absolutely focused on trying
00:32to correct.
00:32I wish there was a simple answer.
00:34The simple answer is what?
00:36To make the players play, make the coaches play them, make the GMs make the coaches.
00:44I think right now we're still caught in this place of the haves and the have-nots in the NBA.
00:51And until they address that part of it, which is the tanking part, where you're potentially rewarded for having a
00:59poor season, that is the first step.
01:03And then beyond that, because so much money is invested in these players, you're talking about hundreds upon hundreds of
01:10millions of dollars,
01:11I do think we've seen a big change in what the priorities are.
01:17And the priorities now have become just making sure they stay healthy, even though we all know it's not that
01:24simple.
01:24You can't just sit a guy out and assume that they'll be ready for the rest of the season because
01:30they miss game number 38 or game number 76 or game number 81 or 82, in the case that you
01:37just mentioned.
01:37So you have a lot of these teams that are now completely bought into the science behind this.
01:46And as we know, it's not always scientific.
01:51Everything that you just laid out is fair.
01:53If somebody lays out the money to pay for a ticket to see their favorite player, to bring their kid
02:00to the game, and then they hear that their favorite player is not playing, that's a problem.
02:04That means that there's a flaw in this system, and it does have to be addressed.
