00:00If you're a nearby resident or regular user of the A660 between Headingley and Leeds City Centre,
00:07you'll know it's been undergoing a revamp for quite some time.
00:10The final phase of the works are now underway, with the scheme expected to be completed early next year.
00:16Funded by the Active Travel Fund, the works are set to bring the route up to the Department for Transport's
00:22latest design guidance
00:24to create high-quality, safe infrastructure for people who walk, wheel and cycle,
00:29with 1,000 cyclists said to use this route each day.
00:33The scheme aims to improve bus reliability into and out of the city centre, and reduce road deaths and serious
00:40injuries.
00:41As part of the final phase of the works, Cliff Road will become one-way southbound to motor vehicles,
00:47with a band right turn out onto the A660.
00:51Rampart Road will have a right turn out band, and Clarendon Road will have the left turn out band for
00:58drivers.
00:58As part of the previous works, existing bus stops have been updated along the route
01:03to bring the cycle bypasses in line with updated government guidance.
01:08The cycle lane has been narrowed at each bus stop to create a boarding area for users to get on
01:13and off the bus.
01:14Phase 3 is made up of the widening of narrow pavements,
01:18a new Toucan crossing near Cliff Road, and a major reconfiguration of the Clarendon Road junction.
01:23The route was consulted on with the public in 2023, with 63% of respondents backing the plans.
