US President Donald Trump has reacted to Keir Starmer’s resignation, saying, “I wish him well,” during a press briefing at the Oval Office. When asked about the political shake-up in the UK, Trump pointed to what he described as Starmer’s key challenges: energy policy and immigration. He argued that decisions surrounding North Sea oil production and the push toward renewable energy had weakened Starmer’s political standing. Trump also suggested that immigration remained a major concern for British voters. His comments come as the UK prepares for a leadership contest to determine who will succeed Starmer as the country’s next prime minister.

00:00Sir, you've been quite critical of Prime Minister Starmer, and he's now resigned.
00:03Your thoughts, and who would you like to see as the next Prime Minister of the UK?
00:06I was critical only from the... because I think he's a lovely man, but I said,
00:10you're really messing up energy. You have windmills all over the place.
00:13In the meantime, you have the North Sea oil, and they won't let anybody drill.
00:18It's one of the great fields in the world, and they haven't even found most.
00:22You know that the UK buys much of its energy. You know where? Norway.
00:27You know where they get their oil? The North Sea.
00:31The UK has a much better portion of the North Sea.
00:33They don't want to do it for environmental purposes, okay?
00:36And I told him, he's a very nice man. I mean, he's sort of a friend of mine.
00:39I mean, he was not good to us with NATO people, right?
00:42He said, we can't use the island to land. That was the first.
00:46For a couple of weeks, he said, well, but ultimately, I gave it to you now.
00:49That was a bad move. That hurt him badly.
00:51But, I mean, I wish him well, but he's got two problems.
00:56Energy and immigration. And crime.
01:00But energy and immigration.
01:02You know, he's really hurt himself very, very badly.
01:07Please go.
