Sir Keir Starmer delivered an emotional farewell during his final Prime Minister's Questions, marking the close of his time in office before handing over leadership to Andy Burnham. Setting aside the usual political clashes, MPs from across the House paid tribute to the outgoing prime minister, while colleagues and supporters reflected on his years in government. Addressing Parliament, Starmer described the occasion as "the end of my political journey" and said he was "proud of everything I have achieved." He also expressed heartfelt gratitude to the staff who had stood by him, saying they had been "prepared to walk through fire for me."

Speaking directly to guests watching from the public gallery, Starmer reflected on his reason for entering politics, saying, "To all those in the gallery whose lives have been changed or improved by this Labour government, and all across the country who struggle to be seen or heard, you're the reason I came into politics." His speech drew an emotional response from Labour MPs, with several appearing close to tears before giving him a standing ovation. As Britain prepares for a new prime minister, Starmer's final appearance closed a significant chapter in UK politics.

00:00Mr Speaker, this will be my last answer from this dispatch box.
00:04Every Prime Minister knows when they take up the torch that the day will come when they
00:09have to pass it on.
00:11That day has come for me.
00:14This is the end of my political journey.
00:17In six years, I went from historic defeat in 2019 to historic victory in 2024.
00:25And in two years in government, I leave the country in better shape than I found it.
00:31I am proud of everything that we have achieved.
00:35Can I just take time to say to you, Mr Speaker, and all those who work for the House and
00:42in
00:42our constituency offices, thank you for all your hard work.
00:47To our civil service, thank you also for all your hard work.
00:52To my political team, many of them here today, who came on this journey with me, thank you
01:00so much for everything you have done and being prepared to walk through fire for me.
01:06To my colleagues on these benches, I am proud of all we have achieved together and proud
01:12of each and every one of you.
01:13To my successor and each of you, I will give my full support.
01:21To all colleagues across the House, can I wish you good health and happiness.
01:28To all those in the gallery whose lives have been changed or improved by this Labour government,
01:33and all across the country, who struggle to be seen or heard, you are the reason I came
01:42to politics.
01:43To my wife and children, I love you.
01:46Goodbye.
01:58Thank you very much.
01:59You will give me a round of that you are here.
02:00Do you give me back to the floor?
02:03And you're doing it to perform, your choice!
02:05Well, yes, we'll give you.
02:24As the curtain has fallen, this House, quite rightly, cheers out the Prime Minister.
02:32I am sorry we are still clapping. We don't do clapping in the House. We cheer. We hold
02:36our order papers up. That is the farewell that we should always give to a Prime Minister.
02:41We now come to the next stage, if the front benches change over.
