00:00Giannis rumors are flying, and that's not even the biggest surprise in the NBA today.
00:06Shine Time starts right now.
00:14I want you to look at this celebration.
00:17Victor Webinyama is crying.
00:19He's got joy, jubilation, emotion like no other.
00:23And it's a big deal, and I'm not being critical in any way, shape, or form.
00:26I absolutely love it.
00:28But I do think there's an interesting compare and contrast between how Wemby and the Spurs celebrated the conference finals
00:38versus how Jalen Brunson, Carl Anthony Towns, and the Knicks celebrated.
00:44For the Knicks, you could barely find the smile.
00:47Jalen Brunson would not talk about anything other than the next four wins.
00:52You look at Wemby, and it was all emotion, tears.
00:58It was like they obviously didn't expect to be there.
01:03But I do think this is where the youth and the inexperience and the we're happy to be here mentality
01:10for the NBA finals could matter.
01:13For the Knicks, it's all business.
01:14So that was yours truly on June 1st, reacting to the Spurs and Victor Webinyama and the emotional reaction of
01:20knocking off the Thunder in Game 7 of the Western Conference Finals in OKC.
01:25And that was a big deal.
01:27And I was on to something.
01:28And I knew that.
01:30It was immaturity.
01:31It was looking past the Knicks.
01:32It was thinking that you won the Larry O'Brien trophy before you even played in the NBA finals.
01:37And we saw how the series played out.
01:41And now we've heard from none other than Josh Hart on how he and the Knicks felt watching that celebration.
01:49I feel like that was similar to San Antonio this year, where, like, everyone was talking to him about, like,
01:54yo, they got to beat OKC.
01:56Like, OKC's going to repeat.
01:57OKC's going to repeat.
01:58Da-da-da.
01:58And then they, you know, they beat OKC.
02:02And that was, like, for them, for a young kid, I feel like that was a mountaintop for them.
02:07And then that's how I look at JB.
02:09I was like, you see that reaction because, like, they think they're going to win it.
02:13Like, they think it's over this week.
02:19And then you look at our reaction after we beat Cleveland.
02:23And it was, like, it was tough to celebrate.
02:27Because we're like, we got four more.
02:29Like, obviously, winning the Eastern Conference, you know, is an amazing accomplishment.
02:34But we all looked at that like, this is just a step.
02:38This isn't the destination.
02:40This is just a step.
02:41And the reaction of after game four in Cleveland, like, shows that.
02:47That's our guy, Josh Hartz.
02:49He, of course, on with his friend, our guy, Jalen Brunson, on The Roommate Show, their incredible podcast that they
02:55do together.
02:55And that show was broadcast nationally on ESPN on Friday night.
03:01Watch the entire thing.
03:02And, listen, Josh Hartz said exactly what we said here on Shine Time, that they felt like the Spurs were,
03:10frankly, over-celebrating.
03:12And they were taking the Knicks for granted.
03:13And it was over.
03:15And they won the Larry O'Brien trophy.
03:17I mean, look at this.
03:18These are tears of a champion, except this wasn't the championship.
03:25And Victor Wembenyama, this moment, and we talked about it in real time on Shine Time, I went nuts on
03:32it.
03:32That right there, that's the reaction after you win a title.
03:36That's the reaction of Jalen Brunson and company, the emotion, the joy, the relief after they won a championship against
03:43the San Antonio Spurs.
03:45That is not how you act, and we made sure to mention this on Shine Time.
03:50That's not how you act getting to the finals.
03:53And I'm a big believer when it comes to sports, sports are tough.
03:58Celebrate, validate, stamp.
04:00But there's perspective.
04:02You compare and contrast it, and we did that day on Shine Time.
04:06Josh Hartz mentioned it.
04:07He said he and Jalen Brunson talked about it.
04:09Compare and contrast it to how the Knicks celebrated, or lack thereof,
04:14when the clock hit zero against Cleveland.
04:17And it was just, yay.
04:21Matter of fact, four more.
04:23Zero, zero.
04:24Sure, there are some smiles from the rest of the guys.
04:28There's an appreciation of a hug with Patrick Ewing,
04:31and a hug with Walt Clyde Frazier, if you're Jalen Brunson.
04:35They're happy to go to the NBA finals,
04:37but they're not there for a participation trophy.
04:41They're there for the Larry O'Brien trophy.
04:44And that was the difference, and we made a huge deal about that.
04:47And I think that Josh Hartz and the Knicks took major issue
04:53with the way Victor Wimbanyama celebrated prematurely.
04:57And then they felt as if, because remember,
04:59you almost kind of jogged them at the Rolodex,
05:01the New York Knicks were underdogs, relatively heavy underdogs in the series.
05:06Everyone and their mother thought San Antonio was going to win.
05:09San Antonio was favored by 5.5 points in Game 1.
05:12San Antonio down 3-1 was favored in Game 5 by 5.5 points.
05:18So, Josh Hartz and company took that very personally.
05:22And honestly, they will continue to use that disrespect whenever they stop partying.
05:27And by the way, I can't stop with Knicks content.
05:31I can't stop in terms of the parade and the aftermath
05:34and watching these guys celebrate, and I watch the entire roommate show.
05:39I mean, you give me as much Knicks championship content in the aftermath as possible.
05:44That's how you celebrate and when you celebrate, when you have the Larry O'Brien trophy.
05:49And honestly, whenever the Knicks stop celebrating,
05:51they're going to use all of this once again in terms of trying to win another championship.
05:55And the haters and the critics and the naysayers saying they can't do it next year.
06:00Look, I could have lived without James Dolan before the parade saying,
06:04well, we're not going to be in the second apron.
06:06Listen, Knicks starting five is back.
06:09We'll see what happens with Alvarado, see what happens with Mitchell Robinson,
06:12see what happens with Landry Shammett.
06:14But I believe the New York Knicks will absolutely be one of the four best teams
06:19with a realistic chance to repeat.
06:21But it goes noted.
06:23And Josh Hart said exactly what I said here on Shine Time.
06:27Victor Wimbanyama, that was that moment, if you want to start talking about
06:31when it all changed for him in the court of public opinion.
06:35Game six, game seven, the way they came back in that series against the champs,
06:39against OKC, Wemby was hotter than the sun.
06:43And then that celebration, in my opinion, he went from hero to zero.
06:48He went from OK, superstar, Wilt meets Steph meets E.T., he's freakish,
06:55you've never seen him before.
06:56And that was the first example of true immaturity.
07:00And then you can start talking about Nasreen and what happened when he campaigned for the MVP.
07:04Then he acted clueless and he played terribly and he acted like a thug and he was dirty
07:08and said dumb things during the course of the NBA Finals.
07:12And now that all means that Victor Wimbanyama has a lot to prove for the 2026-2027 season.
07:20And honestly, when you consider how he just celebrated like he won when he didn't,
07:25it was ridiculously immature.
07:28And I'm not going to sit here and write off Victor Wimbanyama for the rest of his career.
07:33But I think way too many people are just simply saying, well, he'll learn from it.
07:40Willie, he didn't really learn from anything during the course of the NBA Finals.
07:45That scene, and for Josh Hart, days after winning a championship to slam at home
07:51in the exact fashion feel as strongly as I did, this to me, this is an image, tears of a
07:58clown.
07:59That's someone who thought they were just going to absolutely coast to a championship.
08:04Victor Wimbanyama got humbled, you would think.
08:07Then you see in the NBA Finals how he ultimately, you know, acted and the way he became as unlikable
08:14as it gets.
08:15Tough for me to believe that all of a sudden the light is going to go on for Victor Wimbanyama.
08:21Now we look forward in the NBA draft tomorrow night.
08:24And this morning, our guy Sham Sharania dealt us a huge story that came out of nowhere.
08:30I mean, you ought to have the collaboration of Shams and Pete Thamel and Adam Schefter,
08:35all the insiders combining on this one for ESPN.
08:38Couldn't knock me over with a feather.
08:40Dusty May finalizing a deal to take the Dallas Mavericks head coaching job,
08:45replacing the fired Jason Kidd.
08:47This, of course, is a coach who's fresh off of winning a national title for Michigan,
08:53and now he heads to Dallas to lead a franchise with Cooper or Flagg in place as its star.
08:58And let me first and foremost say, this hire is phenomenal.
09:03What a terrific job by the Dallas Mavericks.
09:07Dusty May, you think about what he did at UCF, you think about what he did at two years at
09:10Michigan.
09:11The way that he coaches, he deals with his players, the way he plays multiple bigs,
09:16you know, his X's and O's, he is unbelievable.
09:19You think about the landscape of college basketball now.
09:22It's more pro basketball than ever before.
09:23You think about how Michigan was built, and it's all transfer portal and NIL.
09:28And I'm not saying that as an insult.
09:29I'm saying that as an ultimate compliment on understanding the system.
09:32I mean, Dusty May is ready for this.
09:35And I think the jump from college to the pros, I know, you know,
09:39there's been a lot of examples of failures through the years.
09:41You know, I don't think Billy Donovan was a failure.
09:43I thought that, you know, could have won, should have won in OKC.
09:46We've talked about that at length.
09:48Dan Hurley, if he wanted to coach the Lakers, would have been a phenomenal choice.
09:52If Steve Kerr left, I think that, you know, they could have dipped into the collegiate level.
09:57And, you know, Todd Golden from Florida would have made a ton of sense.
09:59We've talked about that.
10:01Dusty May is a no-brainer.
10:03And I said when Dusty May's name got brought up for North Carolina,
10:06why would he ever take North Carolina?
10:08He's got a better job when he's coaching Michigan.
10:10He would only leave for an NBA job.
10:12And we jumped at the time, the Detroit Pistons, because of location.
10:16He's going to coach Dallas.
10:18And he's going to coach Cooper Flagg.
10:19And this, if you're Dusty May, where, you know,
10:21you had the athletic director at Michigan, Ward Manuel, say,
10:25oh, he's going to be at Michigan forever.
10:26Well, never signed him to that contract.
10:29Cooper Flagg is that guy you leave for.
10:31And the Dallas Mavericks have a top-10 pick.
10:33And, listen, they are looking in Dallas for a cleansing.
10:37They got rid of Nico Harrison.
10:39They got rid of Jason Kidd.
10:40You know, got rid of anyone who was attached to the worst deal in the history of professional sports
10:44in terms of Luka Doncic to the Lakers.
10:47Cooper Flagg is that kind of guy.
10:50If you're a head coach, you want to hit your wagon, too.
10:53He is a special young ball player.
10:55According to multiple reports, John Shire, the Duke coach, was also on the short list.
11:01Man, that would have been unbelievable, too.
11:04This is an unbelievable move by Dusty May.
11:07And it also hits home, right?
11:08I mean, listen, I think college basketball is phenomenal.
11:12I think that, especially if you're at the top of college basketball, it's outstanding.
11:16If you have a chance to get a terrific NBA job, you do it.
11:21And, listen, I'll say it, and I want to say on record, I think Dusty May is going to be
11:24sensational
11:25coaching the Dallas Mavericks.
11:27If it doesn't work in a couple years, he'll coach Kentucky.
11:30He'll coach Kansas.
11:32He'll get another incredible job coaching college basketball.
11:35I mean, this is a no-brainer for Dusty May.
11:37I think this is well-earned.
11:39I think this is phenomenal for Cooper Flagg.
11:41I think it's great for the Mavericks.
11:43If I'm a Mavericks fan, I am thrilled.
11:45And good for Dusty May.
11:47Sometimes, whatever profession you're in, especially coaching,
11:50because it's so fluid and cyclical.
11:52When you're hot and you have an opportunity like this, you grab a halt.
11:56This is a terrific, tremendous job by the Dallas Mavericks.
12:00Terrific, tremendous job by Dusty May.
12:03Michigan's Michigan.
12:05You know, it sucks if you're a fan or an alum, obviously.
12:08You'll be fine.
12:09You just won a championship.
12:10You can't rip Dusty May.
12:12He did his job, won a championship, and a second year coaching the team.
12:16This is, I mean, you could have knocked me over with a feather when this news broke this morning.
12:21Man, unbelievable for the Dallas Mavericks.
12:25I love this for Dusty May.
12:27And I won't be surprised if Cooper Flagg, Dusty May, and the Dallas Mavericks are doing some special things
12:32sooner rather than later.
12:34Dusty May, that special of a ball coach.
12:38Cooper Flagg, that special of a young ball player.
12:40This is a match and a marriage made in basketball heaven.
12:44As I mentioned before, the NBA draft tips off tomorrow night.
12:47The story generating as much buzz as the loaded draft itself, the future of Giannis Antetokounmpo,
12:54the Greek freak expected to be moved over the next couple of days.
12:58It's being reported, according to our friends, Shams Sharania and Brian Windhorst over at ESPN,
13:04that the frontrunners to land Giannis Antetokounmpo, the Heats and the Boston Celtics.
13:10Of course, not long ago, the Knicks were said to be at the top of his list,
13:14but then, you know, they won a championship.
13:17So, this is conventional wisdom as far as I see it.
13:21I think Giannis will be traded by the time the draft starts tomorrow.
13:27Frankly, I think Giannis Antetokounmpo will be traded by the ends of today.
13:33And I would be surprised if he wasn't traded to the Boston Celtics.
13:38Because when Shams and Brian Windhorst list two teams, and it's Miami and it's Boston,
13:44you know, I'm struggling finding the Miami match.
13:47If you're Joe Mazzula and the Boston Celtics, you have to.
13:50If you're Brad Stevens and the Boston Celtics, and now you have Jalen Brown's name out there,
13:56and they were reluctant to put it in any kind of trade, but now, according to reports,
14:02Brown is in the trade, you have to find a way to get it done.
14:06And look, Giannis, the bloom is off the rose a little bit, right?
14:11I mean, he didn't make the playoffs this past year.
14:13The Bucs were a disaster.
14:14Ever since he won the championship, I mean, things have gone south.
14:19We could talk about the blood on his hands with regards to Budenholzer and Griffin and Doc Rivers
14:24and butting heads and, you know, personnel moves, whatever he may or may not have been involved with
14:30in terms of trades and getting guys hired or fired.
14:33However it was, last few years have been derailed.
14:37And some of it is Giannis' fault.
14:38You know, all the conversation, you know, our friend Tanya Ganguly telling her,
14:43you know, he wanted to go to the Knicks.
14:44I mean, all this stuff, right?
14:47Giannis is not without blame when it comes to what has transpired in Milwaukee.
14:52And I feel bad for the Bucs fans, but now it's officially inevitable.
14:56I mean, we could talk Lou Alcindor or anybody else.
14:59Giannis is the best player in Milwaukee Bucs history.
15:01It's as simple as that.
15:02And he should have been a Buc forever, but you could tell he won the championship,
15:07signed the contract, never fully committed.
15:10And I feel bad for the Bucs fans there.
15:12Now, I think if you're a Bucs fan, it's just inevitable.
15:16And you got to do it before the NBA draft on Tuesday night
15:19because you need to know who you're picking, when you're picking, salary cap,
15:23and you need to get the proper compensation.
15:25Tyler Hero is not proper compensation.
15:28You know, maybe there's a third team, Atlanta, but it's got to be Boston.
15:32The Tyler Hero trade makes no sense in any way, shape, or form.
15:36And frankly, to me, as much as anything, if you get someone like Jalen Brown,
15:42if you're the Milwaukee Bucs, you save face.
15:45Getting Brown, who is a terrific player this past year, he won a championship,
15:49and he's been terrific for the Boston Celtics.
15:52You know what you become?
15:54You become, in your minds, and you have a new head coach in Jenkins
15:57who knows what he's doing, he did an excellent job in Memphis.
15:59You can be the Celtics from last year.
16:03I don't think you will, but you absolutely next year with Brown and company,
16:07if that's a deal that ultimately gets done,
16:09and I think that makes a ton of sense for everyone involved,
16:11you can be team 5 through 8 in the Eastern Conference,
16:16depending upon the surrounding cast, but I don't think that that's crazy.
16:20For Boston, you got to find a way to make this ultimately a done deal.
16:26Because here's, and we talked about this on Shine Time,
16:29so I'm going to give myself credit, when Philadelphia came back
16:34and beat the Boston Celtics in that series,
16:37and Philadelphia had no business winning that series,
16:40and Philly outplayed Boston, and then you had Brown on Twitch,
16:46I don't even know what this means, and he's saying,
16:48this is the best season of my life, when the team got bounced in the first round,
16:53lost against Philly, and you had your fellow star in Jason Tatum,
16:58you know, had the worst year emotionally, physically, draining-wise,
17:02you know, against the Knicks, obviously, in the playoffs,
17:05popped and ruptured the Achilles, had the surgery, had to come back,
17:08grueling, got back, they lose, and you call it the best year of your life?
17:12And you constantly are creating headlines?
17:14So, I felt like he would go, no matter what.
17:19That was my take, if you remember, on Shine Time.
17:22If you could turn that situation, where you're beyond a return,
17:28hey, listen, give Brown credit, won a championship in Boston,
17:32had a great year last year, before he derailed it by losing that series,
17:35and with his mouth on social media,
17:37he should always be, I think, respected in Boston.
17:40Now, you could start talking about cart, horse, what came first.
17:44He's never been the favorite of Celtics fans.
17:46When he got that extension, I said this years ago,
17:49I said, you would have been better served going to Fenway Park
17:53and spending that money and just lighting it on fire
17:56than giving it to Jalen Brown.
17:57So, give him credit, even though I think he's always been
18:02public enemy number one in Boston for a variety of reasons,
18:06and he's never really helped himself.
18:08Now that he's in the trade, you have to ship him out.
18:12And if you could take a player who's disgruntled,
18:14not going to be back anyway, and turn him into Giannis Antetokounmpo,
18:18that's phenomenal.
18:19Now, as a Knicks fan, I bring it on.
18:23If you're a fan of the Detroit Pistons, say,
18:25all right, get Kevin Durant, get another shooter,
18:27you know, and find a way, bring it on.
18:29Cleveland Cavaliers, bring it on.
18:31Indiana Pacers, Halliburton's healthy, bring it on.
18:34Look, the Celtics will be better with Giannis.
18:38Giannis needs to stay healthy.
18:39Giannis needs to prove that he gets it.
18:41I know that sounds crazy about Giannis Antetokounmpo,
18:43but it's just the truth.
18:45For Boston, it's a no-brainer trade, though.
18:47No-brainer trade.
18:47Now, you have to trust Brad Stevens to fill out the rest of the roster
18:51because, frankly, it was not a championship roster,
18:53and one of the reasons why,
18:55if the Celtics lived up to their end of the bargain
18:57and met the Knicks in the second round of the playoffs,
18:59I said the Knicks would absolutely beat them.
19:01I don't think Boston was that good.
19:02I don't think they ever replaced Drew Holliday.
19:04I don't think they ever replaced Chris Stapp's poor Zingas,
19:06to be honest with you.
19:06So, they still will have work to do,
19:09but if you can trade an, albeit ultra-talented,
19:13and a phenomenal player last year,
19:15and a loudmouth,
19:17and someone who didn't want to be there,
19:19and turn him into a hungry and focused Giannis Antetokounmpo,
19:24and you put Giannis in a championship situation with a championship coach
19:28and a championship co-star in Tatum
19:31and a championship general manager and president,
19:34who I love,
19:35and Brad Stevens,
19:36I think you'll get the best version of Giannis Antetokounmpo.
19:41Because at this stage,
19:42if you're Boston,
19:43you've got to find a way to get this done.
19:45Going to Miami makes no sense for anybody, right?
19:48Pat Riley's been chasing that star,
19:50and it's not Jimmy Butler,
19:51chasing that star since LeBron left, okay?
19:53If Giannis goes to Miami,
19:57then they become the Miami Bucs.
19:59Like, that's not a championship-caliber team.
20:02As a Knicks fan, I would laugh.
20:04I mean, that's...
20:05Basically, everything you had in Milwaukee the last few years,
20:07you're going to go to Miami,
20:08and it's, you know, the Spider-Man meme.
20:10You're pointing at each other.
20:12That's that situation.
20:13For Boston,
20:15now that Brown's out there,
20:17you have to get rid of them.
20:18Whether it turns out to be Giannis Antetokounmpo
20:21or ship him to Atlanta,
20:22ship him to the Clippers,
20:23whatever it is,
20:24you can't function with Brown on your team next year.
20:26So, I firmly believe,
20:28now that the genie's out of the bottle here, right,
20:32Giannis gets traded to Boston,
20:34and this will be a terrific deal for Boston.
20:37I'm not ready to call it a championship kind of move.
20:40I do think, though,
20:42and this would be terrific for everyone involved,
20:45if when Giannis Antetokounmpo gets traded to the Boston Celtics,
20:50I think we're looking,
20:52and we'll see what Indiana does,
20:53we'll see what Detroit does,
20:55we'll see what Orlando and Cleveland,
20:56what they do in the offseason,
20:57but we could be looking at New York and Boston
21:01for the next couple of seasons
21:03as the top two teams in the Eastern Conference.
21:07How sweet would that be?
21:09And as a Knick fan,
21:10I would look forward to beating Giannis Antetokounmpo
21:12and the Boston Celtics
21:13next year and the year after that.
21:16But I fully anticipate that Giannis Antetokounmpo
21:18will be traded before the NBA draft,
21:20and I fully anticipate that he will be traded
21:23now that the genie's out of the bottle
21:24to the Boston Celtics in a deal for Jalen Brown.
21:28And at this stage,
21:29the Boston Celtics must and should trade Jalen Brown,
21:33and absolutely,
21:35this would be a terrific deal for the Celtics.
21:37They need to get Giannis Antetokounmpo.
21:40Speaking of superstar traits,
21:42we had a monster deal in the NHL over the weekend.
21:45The Ottawa Senators on Sunday
21:47traded their captain, the great Brady Kachuk,
21:50to the Florida Panthers,
21:52who already have his brother, Matthew, on the roster.
21:54Ottawa gets a bunch of picks,
21:56a couple of first-rounders in the draft on Friday,
21:59a first-rounder in 2029.
22:01Let me tell you what this is.
22:03This is hand the Stanley Cup
22:06directly to the Florida Panthers.
22:08That's what this is.
22:10Congratulations to the Florida Panthers,
22:12who won back-to-back cups,
22:13decided to let everyone,
22:15just enjoy the opportunity to hold the Stanley Cup.
22:19They decided,
22:19let's just take this past year off,
22:21and congrats to Carolina.
22:23And their nemesis over the last couple of seasons
22:25was Florida.
22:26So Florida just said,
22:28yeah, we're going to punt this year.
22:30And here's Brady Kachuk,
22:32and these guys were incredible together
22:35as brothers on Team USA.
22:36I mean, this is unbelievable.
22:39Everybody now in the Eastern Conference
22:41is going to be fighting for second place.
22:44I mean, this is like,
22:47and it's not exactly apples to apples,
22:49because, you know,
22:50one team is coming off of a non-playoff season,
22:52the other was coming off of, obviously,
22:54what happened in 2016.
22:56This is like Durant going to the Warriors.
22:58Just so we're clear,
23:00last year,
23:00what could go wrong went wrong for Florida.
23:03They had won back-to-back Stanley Cups.
23:04They beat Conor McDavid
23:05in consecutive Stanley Cup finals.
23:07This team,
23:08they still have all the dudes,
23:09all the parts,
23:10all the pieces.
23:10This squad
23:12is loaded.
23:13So, I expect Florida,
23:16and we'll see other moves,
23:17and we'll see, you know,
23:19what transpires in different places,
23:20but I expect Florida
23:22to absolutely have the ability
23:25to win the Stanley Cup again.
23:26You don't even have to wait
23:27for our Shine Time NHL preview show.
23:31The only question is,
23:32who are they going to beat
23:33out of the Western Conference?
23:34That's what we're talking about.

23:37and I saw this deal yesterday,
23:38you could have absolutely

23:43are going to be playing together.
23:44There's also an interesting part
23:46and piece to this
23:47that I think is fascinating.

23:51So, all of a sudden,
23:52you now have guys
23:54who are on Team USA Hockey
23:55who beat the Canadians in Milan,
23:58won the gold medal,
23:59which was unbelievable,
24:00and these guys
24:01don't really want to stay in Canada.
24:04I also think,
24:05when you start talking about
24:06getting traded from Canada
24:08to American markets,
24:09and, you know,
24:10we saw Jack Hughes' brother
24:11get traded,
24:12and, you know,
24:12Hellebuck is rumored to be traded,
24:14and Kachuk is traded,
24:16Austin Matthews
24:17is rumored to be traded.
24:18Canada hasn't won
24:19a Stanley Cup in ages.
24:21Obviously,
24:21you could go back
24:22to Connor McDavid
24:23against Florida
24:23the last couple of years,
24:24not this season,
24:25the two prior.
24:26You know,
24:26had opportunities,

26:28your early thoughts
26:29on the first week
26:30and a half of the World Cup,
26:32I think this might be
26:33the best start to the World Cup
26:34on the men's side
26:35we've ever seen.
26:36It is for us.
26:38I mean,
26:38never have we been able
26:39to win our first two games.
26:42Mauricio Pochettino,
26:43our manager,
26:43is the first one to do that.
26:44It took, I think,
26:46Bruce Arena
26:46a couple of decades
26:47and a couple of tournaments
26:48to get to,
26:49and we're already there
26:50with this guy.
26:51But you're right, man.
26:52I think all of the negativity
26:53coming in,
26:54the ticket prices
26:55was a big concern.
26:59Security was a concern.

27:01trying to get in
27:02and maybe their visas

27:23I can't get enough here.

27:28we go back six to eight months
27:30on my program.

27:32I feel like now
27:33I was the voice of reason,
27:34but there was a lot of people
27:35that were really negative
27:36about this team.
27:37They didn't have
27:37the negative about our coach.
27:38We had,
27:39you know,
27:39guys on ESPN,
27:41you know,
27:41saying stuff.
27:42We had guys on Fox
27:42saying stuff.
27:43Guy,
27:43everybody thought
27:44that Christian Pulisic
27:45wasn't going to be able
27:46to perform
27:46because he hadn't scored.
27:48And I really felt good
27:50about it.
27:50I felt good about this coach.
27:51I like what he's doing.
27:53I like the way
27:53he's putting the puzzle together.
27:55And I guess
27:56the one thing
27:57that got me
27:58a little bit in trouble
27:59this past week
27:59with some of my ex-teammates
28:01is I said,
28:01look,
28:02in former,
28:02you know,
28:03World Cups,
28:03we had maybe six,
28:04seven,
28:05or eight guys
28:05that could do it.
28:06And that's why
28:07we ended up
28:08bowing out of the tournament
28:09at some point
28:10because we just
28:11couldn't sustain.
28:11This team is
28:1417,
28:1418,
28:1519 deep.
28:16We have some
28:16really good players.
28:17It's not that we didn't
28:18have good players
28:19in the past
28:20because we did.
28:21Guys like Ty Bramos
28:22are still probably,
28:23in my opinion,
28:24with everything included,
28:25still the best player
28:26we've ever had.
28:26But now we just
28:27have more players.
28:28We have more guys
28:29that can do it
28:30at the highest level.
28:31And that's what we're seeing.
28:32This team is for real.
28:34And I'm expecting
28:35even bigger and better
28:36things throughout
28:37the competition
28:37because we're not done yet.
28:39We're nowhere near done.
28:40I want you to hit on that
28:41with some of your
28:42former teammates
28:43or other Team USA stars
28:45in the past
28:45because whether it's,

28:47Nathan Donovan
28:47or Gomez
28:48or Howard,

28:49they've been critical
28:51of you.
28:51And frankly,
28:52I don't even remotely
28:53understand it.
28:54First of all,
28:54it's your job.
28:55Second of all,
28:55you're great at it.
28:57Third of all,
28:58you're right.
28:59Are you surprised
29:01that their comments
29:02are so anti-you
29:05and or Team USA?
29:06And I think you're right,
29:08frankly,
29:08when you look at
29:09the depth for this squad
29:11and what we've been able
29:12to do so far
29:13and what we can do
29:15in the World Cup.

29:17Well, here's how that works.
29:18Okay?
29:18Hurt Gomez was the first one
29:20to call our coach a fraud.
29:21So I attacked him for that.
29:23I didn't appreciate that.
29:25And this is a guy
29:27that he and I have a,
29:28you know,
29:29a back and forth going anyway.
29:30Tim Howard came out
29:31and said,
29:31we have no chance
29:32to win the World Cup.
29:34It's impossible.
29:35And Landon Donovan
29:36has been criticizing
29:37our youth systems,
29:39but never has he done
29:40anything to change it
29:42or put his money
29:43where his mouth is
29:44or come up with a solution.
29:45So all three of those guys,
29:47yeah, okay,
29:48they might be mad at me
29:49for being right.
29:50I like to tell people
29:52I'm never wrong.
29:53I'm just early.
29:53But you put a while
29:55to catch up.
29:56But look,
29:57I think that it's part
29:58of the problem.
29:58We have a problem
29:59with our inability
30:02to really,
30:05truly have faith
30:07and believe in a team
30:08because we've been hurt
30:10so many times in the past
30:11where we didn't have
30:12enough guys that could do it.
30:13And now we just assume
30:14that that's just going
30:15to be the case
30:15all over again.
30:16We got to grow up, man.
30:17This country as a soccer nation
30:19has come a long way.
30:20We've waited a long time
30:21to be this competitive.
30:22And pound for pound,
30:24player for player,
30:25in every single position,
30:26we are hitting
30:28all cylinders right now.
30:30And I don't think,
30:31and I'll quote another player
30:32who I tend to agree with,
30:34Jermaine Jones,
30:35because I think
30:36he has the right mentality.
30:38There isn't a team
30:39that we're afraid of
30:40or should be afraid of
30:41that we can't compete with.
30:43In the past,
30:44maybe that was the case,
30:45but not this team,
30:46not this group,
30:47not right now,
30:48not with the 12th man
30:49kicking in.
30:50This is going to be good.
30:50So I'm curious
30:52with that as a backdrop.

31:02I do think big picture,

31:15our ceiling is,

31:18that we need,
31:19Team USA needs,
31:20Pulisic back
31:21and how do they
31:22handle him this week
31:24in, let's be honest,
31:25a match that doesn't
31:26really matter
31:26because to me,
31:28I would never play him
31:30and risk exacerbating
31:32the injury.
31:33So what do you see
31:34with regards to Pulisic
31:36and how should they
31:36handle him?
31:38Okay, first of all,
31:38you nailed it, right?
31:39And there's so many people
31:40that are concerned
31:42about this,
31:43but when you talk
31:44about needing luck,
31:45okay,
31:46or good fortune
31:46in a World Cup,
31:47we had the good fortune
31:49of playing Australia
31:50second.
31:51So we didn't have
31:52to put him in harm's way
31:53because it was the right move
31:54to play with two forwards
31:56and give somebody
31:57a 10 roll
31:57and get around them
31:59on the wings.
32:00So he didn't need to play.
32:01So this is need versus one.
32:02Yeah, we want to see him play.
32:04We didn't need him
32:05and we don't need him
32:06against Serkia either.
32:08Do you realize
32:08what an incredible advantage
32:10that is
32:10to have one of your best players
32:12and to be in a situation
32:13where we don't need him
32:15right now?
32:15We put so much pressure
32:17on this kid.
32:18We called him Captain America.
32:19The smartest thing we did
32:21or Pochettino did
32:22is take the captain's band away.
32:24Let him focus on the game.
32:26He doesn't need to flip a coin.
32:27He doesn't need to go
32:28to the press conferences.
32:29It's not his personality.
32:30He's been able
32:31for the first time
32:32to be able to relax
32:33and play.
32:34And the truth is
32:36he's going to get healthy
32:37and we're going to go
32:38into that knockout phase
