00:00He may want to stay here long-term.
00:03I think he's open to it, whoever's going to give him a deal.
00:05I think he's politicking you with some money.
00:08You know what I mean?
00:09Like Trey, Trey's going to get a new deal.
00:11I think most people assume that's what's going to happen.
00:14I think Anthony's trying to set himself up.
00:16Now, he's in a little bit different situation, right?
00:18He's still got two more years.
00:19I think he's got, what, $58 million due to him this year,
00:22maybe like a $65 million deal in that last year of his deal, I think.
00:26Yeah, the Wizards, are they really going to extend
00:29both of these players?
00:30That's the question I'm asking.
00:32They're going to give big, lucrative deals to both Trey Young
00:35and Anthony Davis?
00:37I'd be surprised if both of them inked extensions here.
00:40Seems hard to imagine.
00:42Team president Michael Winger said,
00:44my conversations with AD are delightful.
00:48He's a pro's pro.
00:49He understands who he is in the league.
00:51He understands the direction of this league.
00:52He understands what we're trying to do organizationally.
00:55Yeah, I'm kind of with you, EB.
00:57I don't know what to believe,
00:59and there are so many rumors out there about trades.
01:04I've seen Anthony Davis' name in trade rumors.
01:07Anthony Davis, back to the Lakers, for example,
01:10as part of some wackadoo four-team deal.
01:13Who knows what's going to happen?
01:14It's going to be juicy, though.
01:16They say, I guess, he becomes extension eligible in August.
01:22So that's when they can, I guess, start to add, redo, tear it up.
01:26I don't know.
01:26I don't know how it works.
01:28It's very complicated.
01:30But, yeah, I've just kind of assumed that he would be here at least.
01:34That's kind of, as the evidence has mounted over the last few months,
01:37that he'd be here at least for the first half of the season.
01:39See how it goes.
01:40If it's going poorly, then maybe move on.
01:44If it's going great, maybe stay.
01:46If it's going so-so, maybe move on.
01:48Who knows?
01:49But I feel like he's still going to be here.
01:51But you never know.
01:53I think he has publicly basically said the right things.
01:58I think maybe he has expressed some maybe different things behind the scenes.
02:03But what we've seen so far publicly, I think he's always said the right thing.
02:05How's his left hand doing?
02:07No idea.
02:08I mean, I'm guessing it should be healed by now.
02:10It should be healed.
02:11It seems like all the other wizards are pretty healthy.
02:13They just put out their second kind of behind-the-scenes video
02:17of all the guys working out on their jump season,
02:19which, by the way, is such a great term.
02:21I love it.
02:22Instead of the off-season, jump season,
02:24because you want to get a jump on everything
02:25and make a big jump in your development.
02:30And I'm just so blown away by the Wizards organization,
02:33how they're approaching all of this.
02:37I think it's like a 13-minute video, 16-minute video,
02:40and I'm about 11, 12 minutes through it.
02:42Highly recommend it.
02:43Check it out.
02:44They're putting out these videos every few weeks.
02:45I think they're going to put one out right after the draft
02:47within a couple days.
02:50They're so prepared and intentional.
02:55They have meetings before the day with all their assistants
02:57and all the guys that are working with the guys.
02:59All right, you're going to take Koulibaly to one basket.
03:02You're going to take Trey to one basket.
03:06And everything's planned out the whole day.
03:09You've got guys like Keyshawn showing up at 547 in the morning
03:14on a random day just to get their workouts in.
03:17It's great to see that buy-in from the young players.
03:20They definitely want to work.
03:21We've had Will Dolphins on multiple times.
03:23This group, they're not afraid to get in the gym,
03:26to work, to try to get better all the time.
03:29See what you could have done when you were a basketball coach
03:31when Cakes and I were helping you out?
03:33You could have said, hey, you take a...
03:35I don't even remember the kids' names except for your brother
03:38that was on the team.
03:39Right.
03:40Other than the big guy, Zach.
03:41I don't really remember any of the other kids.
03:43Well, it's just so impressive how organized they are
03:46and intentional and everything.
03:48And just so fortunate that the lottery worked out
03:50the way that it has.
03:52It's kind of paid off the three years.
03:54Now they are ready, I think, organizationally to make a jump.
03:57I do think it's important to notice, though,
03:59that while we do expect them to make a leap
04:02in sort of wins and losses next year,
04:04they're not out there thinking
04:07that they're going to win a championship next season.
04:09They want to still develop players.
04:12It's part of the reason why I think
04:13they're still committed to Coach Keefe
04:15because they like the way the players have developed under him.
04:18And next year is still going to be a player development year.
04:22But they do want to start to win some games.
04:25Yeah, I think the odds of Anthony Davis being on this team
04:31after one full season, to me, less than 50%.
04:35Yeah, I have no idea.
04:36At the start of this season, maybe it's above 50%.
04:39But I kind of think when everything shakes out,
04:44like draft, and then the next couple weeks
04:46when people start signing and there's trades,
04:50I think Anthony Davis is likely going to land somewhere else.
04:54But who knows?
04:57Who knows?
04:58So the reports were that he told Mike Winger
05:04that he has strong interest in remaining.
05:07That's not the same as,
05:08I want to be here definitively.
05:11Yeah, I'm kind of interested.
05:13I have strong interest.
05:14He's on the margins with this commitment.
05:16Well, I think in the perfect world,
05:17you'd like to go somewhere,
05:18you'd like to win a championship next season.
05:19You're not going to win a championship next season here.
05:21No matter how perfectly things go.
05:23You're not winning.
05:23The Washington Wizards are not winning a championship in 2027.
05:26It's not happening.
05:27It'll be the miracle of all miracles.
05:29Not going to happen.
05:30You're not going to go from 17 wins to winning an NBA championship.
05:33Not going to happen.
05:34So I get it.
05:36He's running out of years.
05:37He wants to get a new deal.
05:39He'd like to compete for a championship as soon as possible.
05:43It's not necessarily going to be here.
05:44But I also think he said all the right things,
05:47and he's been impressed.
05:47I think as all of us have been impressed with the process that Winger and Dawkins
05:53and company have been going through the last couple of years.
05:57I've just been blown away by it.
05:58And I have to tell you,
05:59I'm absolutely,
06:00I'm just as interested as ever in this draft.
06:03Can't believe we're a day away from it.
06:05JP mentioned we're going to be broadcasting tomorrow from the Anthem.
06:08I guess the Wizards having their official sort of draft party for people.
06:12I can't believe that we still don't really know.
06:16I mean,
06:16I think the assumption is and the money is,
06:18if you go to FanDuel,
06:19it's going to be A.J. DeBonsa.
06:20But they are as tight-lipped as could possibly be.
06:24I'm not saying anything.
06:25And honestly,
06:26you even see some of the NBA experts that go,
06:29they either are the most secretive organization in history,
06:34you know,
06:34give them credit,
06:35or they actually are still kind of waffling too.
06:37Not quite sure.
06:38I don't know.
06:38I don't know what to make of it.
06:39I mean,
06:39maybe they are bringing it right up to the last.
06:41Last day.
06:42There should be.
06:44Look,
06:44good organizations don't just come to a conclusion a month ago and not discuss things.
06:49Right.
06:50You want to keep bouncing it off your best basketball decision makers as to who you think should be the
06:55number one overall pick.
06:56It's weird.
06:56There's a source from Dallas who says that the Wizards currently plan to draft DeBonsa number one.
07:04From Dallas Hoops Journal.
07:07But I've never heard of that guy.
07:09Now he says he's got sources.
07:12Don't know what to believe.
07:13DeBonsa says himself he fully expects to go number one.
07:17Sure.
07:18Well,
07:18he's also going to Mystics games,
07:20tweeting pictures of he and his dad from the White House.
07:23I mean,
07:24if he doesn't go,
07:25number one's almost going to be almost embarrassing.
07:28It might be a little egg on his face if he doesn't go number one.
07:31But it also makes you think maybe you know something.
07:32But in the meanwhile,
07:33Darren Peterson's dad is like tweeting photos of Darren in like a wizard's uniform.
07:38Again,
07:39I mean,
07:39who knows what's going on here?
07:40All this stuff is noise.
07:41It's not coming from the team.
07:43So we don't know who to believe.
07:45Like,
07:45we don't know who's going to go number one overall.
07:48The only people that know that right now,
07:49and they might not even know it,
07:51are Winger and Dawkins and their lieutenants.
07:53Totally agree.
07:54But isn't it fascinating?
07:55I think it's fascinating.
07:56Sure.
07:56Well,
07:56it's because there's no clear cut number one.
07:59And I like it.
07:59And I'm with you.
08:00I'm a Peterson guy.
08:01But man,
08:02if you watch video of any of these top guys,
08:04it's amazing.
08:05Because there are some people that still advocate boozer.
08:07I would like it to be Peterson just because it's my
08:10read on them that they're going to go Peterson.
08:13But of course,
08:13they're going to be excited for Devonson.
08:15Devonson is an absolute freak.
08:16Hell,
08:16I could even get excited.
08:17I've even worked up an excitement for Boozer.
08:21You can.
08:22I mean,
08:22he's going to be a good player.
08:23If he's going to go out there,
08:24he's 40% for threes.
08:26Most of the scouts are like,
08:27yeah,
08:27maybe he's a little bit more boring,
08:28but he's going to give you 20 and 10.
08:29Yeah,
08:30and he's just a winner,
08:30wins at every level.
08:31I could get an excitement for him too.
08:33By the way,
08:34did you see?
08:34It looks like it has been confirmed
08:36that Memphis did offer
08:38the third and the 16
08:40at least that's what I've seen
08:42to Washington.
08:43Washington did turn him down.
08:48Would that entice you?
08:49If you get three,
08:50you know you're at least getting
08:51Devonson,
08:52Boozer,
08:53or Peterson.
08:54Yeah,
08:5416 doesn't do that much for me
08:56because it feels like
08:57a lot of the guys
08:58they already have on the team.
08:59You know what I mean?
09:00Yeah.
09:01Like you're getting another
09:02Bob Carrington?
09:02Correct.
09:03Bob's nice.
09:03I mean,
09:03he's a good player,
09:04but I don't know if it's worth
09:06moving off of one
09:07to go down two spots.
09:09You might find somebody though.
09:10Bob part two.
09:12I mean,
09:12no,
09:13the ones,
09:14the trade rumors
09:15which do intrigue me
09:17are the ones
09:18where it's just a flip
09:19with Utah
09:20where Utah
09:21tosses in Ace Bailey
09:23where it's like,
09:24okay,
09:25we're going to flip picks.
09:26Right.
09:26We're going to be Ace Bailey
09:27who was a top pick
09:28a year ago.
09:30Right.
09:30Who's already flashed
09:31in the NBA
09:32and then you're going
09:33to be able to draft
09:35probably
09:35Darren Peterson
09:37because Utah
09:38presumably would take
09:39DeBonsa.
09:40Although,
09:41I've read reports
09:41and again,
09:42nobody knows
09:43that Darren Peterson
09:45is their top choice
09:46for Danny Ainge.
09:48So,
09:48it's just,
09:48man,
09:49there's so much
09:50unknown about this.
09:51It makes it
09:53super intriguing.
09:54You know how you said
09:55you were in
09:55kind of that rabbit hole
09:56a week or two ago
09:57watching video.
09:58I kind of was that
09:59in Outer Banks
10:01where,
10:01oh,
10:02Zach Lowe believes
10:03Darren Peterson
10:04should go number one.
10:05Oh,
10:05this guy believes
10:07DeBonsa should go number one
10:08and then some other
10:09draft expert comes in
10:11and is like,
10:11Boozer!
10:12It's so interesting
10:13because all these
10:14different reports
10:14are out there
10:15and some guys
10:16are flipping
10:16but yet the
10:18FanDuel odds,
10:19etc.,
10:20aren't really changing.
10:21So,
10:22I don't know
10:22what the hell they know
10:23but...
10:24Peterson could bust
10:25but I'm telling you
10:26my rationale is
10:28and we just saw it
10:28in the NBA Finals.
10:30Jalen Brunson
10:31led the Knicks
10:32to a championship
10:3345 points
10:34in Game 5.
10:38Was unbelievable
10:39all season long.
10:40He's got the ball
10:41in his hands.
10:41I want the guy
10:42who brings the ball
10:43up the court
10:43and I'm not saying
10:44DeBonsa can't do that
10:46but Peterson has done it
10:48and maybe he didn't have
10:49many assists in college
10:50but you can go back
10:52when he's a lead dog
10:53he can make great passes.
10:55In fact,
10:55I just retweeted one
10:56at Junks Radio
10:57somebody showing
10:57some of his highlights
10:58he looked like
10:59a lot of the guards
11:00nowadays in the NBA
11:01bringing the ball
11:02up the court
11:03and then he can
11:04still distribute.
11:05The one thing
11:06that we can all
11:06get behind is
11:07I'm pretty sure
11:10and Jav and I
11:11even kind of
11:11bickered with each
11:12other last week
11:13about it.
11:13I'm pretty sure
11:13they're going to get
11:14a star either way.
11:15It seems that way.
11:16I'm pretty sure
11:17they're going to get
11:17a star either way.
11:19It's just
11:21they're different guys,
11:22different games,
11:23different body types
11:24and everything
11:25but I'm pretty sure
11:25both these guys
11:26are going to be
11:27it's interesting
11:27now I'm going to
11:28the nbadraft.net
11:30it's the first time
11:30I've seen this
11:32nbadraft.net
11:33has Cam Boozer
11:34going number two
11:34to Utah.
11:37I mean his pops
11:38does work for Utah.
11:39That's right,
11:39he's in the front office
11:40there.
11:40And I think
11:41there was just a report
11:42that I saw
11:43over the last 48 hours
11:44or so
11:45that Cam Boozer
11:46in fact did work out
11:47for Washington.
11:48He did.
11:48So he's the only one
11:50because oh no
11:50Peterson worked out
11:51Devonsa didn't
11:52Devonsa claims
11:53he didn't physically
11:54work out
11:54that he met with him
11:55but you know
11:56I get it.
11:58Well it's going to be
11:59an interesting couple of days
12:00like you said
12:01we're going to be
12:01at a draft party
12:04at the Anthem
12:05in D.C.
12:06for the NBA draft
12:07which of course
12:08is tomorrow.
12:09Coming up next
12:11we'll get into
12:11some Commander's news
12:12and yes
12:13there's more
12:14Brandon Ayuk audio.
12:16Don't go anywhere.
