00:00Jimmy Pazos now with Monumental Sports. Hey Jimmy. Coach. Hey, how we doing guys? What's up, Jason? How are you
00:07guys?
00:07What did you think about Messi yesterday, bruh? He's unbelievable. I don't know if it gets any better than that.
00:13What it lasts 20 minutes.
00:14I mean, Egypt was fast breaking and running on them. The next thing I know, they lost 3-2.
00:18Have you been locked in on most of these matches like I have?
00:25No, I'm not that big of a soccer guy, but I'll tell you what's exciting.
00:28But I had the Mystics Monday. That's after the Mystics. Fun little season going on.
00:33So Monday, I couldn't really watch because I had Mo Curry getting her Hall of Fame induction with the Mystics.
00:39And all of a sudden, it went south. I don't know what happened. Tell me what happened.
00:44Hey, I wanted to ask you our junkies poll today before we dive deeper into the Wizards and DeBansa and
00:50that stuff.
00:51And it was a Wizards-related discussion that we were having about, you know, they add Middleton to the mix
00:56and you look at the roster and where they'll be, right?
00:58And there were four options. How good can this Wizards team be? Top four seed team in the East? Five
01:04or six seed?
01:05Play-in team or miss the playoffs? Where would Jimmy Patsos vote?
01:11Five, six, play-in.
01:13Wow. Hold on, what?
01:15Five, six, or play-in.
01:16Oh, okay.
01:17Yeah, I'm going BMC.
01:18So top out at five and bottom would be play-in?
01:24Yes.
01:24Okay.
01:25I said, and Drav was breaking my balls, I said I'll be stunned if they don't make the playoffs.
01:31Is that a fair statement? You know, given relative health.
01:35Well, after the Celtics, because they just dumped out.
01:38So the Sixers got a lot better. The Knicks are the champs. Cavs are good.
01:43Pistons were the best team in the league last year in the East.
01:46I mean, so you got right there. That's a tough one.
01:49You know, is the Magic going to get any better?
01:51You know, Bane and Ben Carroll. I could do this all day with who's going to be good and who
01:55isn't.
01:55But it's a big jump they're trying to make.
01:58Love the roster. D'Bomson's a real deal.
02:01What I like is, what are the Wizards going to do with players four through ten?
02:06Man, they're all really good. They're going to have to earn their playing time now.
02:10You know, Trey Young's going to start.
02:12Sarr's going to start.
02:13And D'Bomson's going to start.
02:15You know, that's three spots.
02:16You know, who's going to play the fives?
02:18Is it going to be Aitner? Is it going to be Anthony Davis?
02:21And then you have Bubbs.
02:23Will Riley had a great year.
02:24Keyshawn George is really good.
02:26I've known Will Riley forever.
02:28The kids from Illinois, who really was a great draft pick.
02:30Like, all these guys are going to compete.
02:33And then Trey Johnson's going to see who's going to play the two.
02:35You know, it's going to be, you're going to have to compete to get minutes.
02:38You know?
02:39Which is great.
02:40Koulibaly's back.
02:41So, every game's going to be interesting.
02:43It's going to be, I'm excited for Summer League.
02:45I'll be there on Sunday.
02:46Good.
02:47And then, you know, Julian Reese, can he make the team?
02:49He's like, he, you know, played as well.
02:51That's my Maryland connection.
02:52But, like, who's going to rebound the ball and play inside and not get to take shots?
02:57And then everybody else, you go,
03:00there's a lot of good guards, a lot of good wings.
03:02But we're going to see who's going to play.
03:03Because it's going to be a very different, very different Wizards team.
03:06The future's arrived, and it's very exciting.
03:08I think it's super exciting.
03:10I haven't been this excited in years.
03:12I do think, though, that we're, I think we're underselling them a little bit.
03:16Sure, it's unproven, and they're so young.
03:18I mean, it's fair.
03:19They're so young.
03:21And they still have a lot of growth.
03:22But it's not really fair to call them a 17-win team
03:26when literally they weren't trying to win games.
03:28We don't have any idea what kind of team they,
03:31if they tried to win last year,
03:34and forget about Trey and AD.
03:36Those guys are required late.
03:37We don't know.
03:37If they tried to win every game,
03:40how many wins do you think they were capable of last year?
03:46Now, look, I like Champagny.
03:49He's a really tough guy, good player.
03:51You saw his brother in San Antonio.
03:53That guy could have won you some games.
03:55But, you know, whether they were injuries,
03:56but, you know, they played leaky black and different guys to see what they were.
04:00They were just evaluating to get them to see what they had in the future.
04:04And they figured out Champagny's a really good guy.
04:06I'm drafted.
04:0715% of the league's undrafted.
04:09And that's an interesting question.
04:11But, you know, look, I do the games,
04:13and there were times they could have won some games,
04:15but guys were banged up, or they didn't play injured,
04:18or they were trying to do what they were trying to do.
04:20Right.
04:21In other words, it's not fair.
04:23Sure, sure.
04:23They could have won 10 more games, maybe.
04:25But what would that have accomplished?
04:27Because they were trying to grow.
04:29Bub Carrington's really good.
04:30If Bub turns into, like, just if he can grow up just the next step,
04:34because they're all so young.
04:35You're talking about 9-10 deep, and can they come in 4th, 5th, or 6th?
04:40I hear what you guys are saying.
04:41Trey Young, he's like Tiny Archibald, for anybody old listening,
04:44when he was a league and scoring an assist.
04:48Right.
04:49And then Bird showed up.
04:50Bird, Larry Bird shows up on the Celtics in Tiny Archibald,
04:53wins the title and goes to three straight finals and all that.
04:56Trey Young's got players around him now.
04:59And so he's a real guy.
05:01It's just that the Pistons were good.
05:03The Knicks were good.
05:04The Cavs were really good.
05:06And then the Sixers got better.
05:07That's the only reason I don't have a 1-4.
05:10Yeah.
05:10Which is fair.
05:11I don't think you should have them necessarily 1-4.
05:13I think 1-4 would be kind of crazy.
05:15I mean, they haven't played together yet.
05:17So I'm interested to see, what are your thoughts on acquiring DeAndre Ayton?
05:24He's a really good backup center, and you're going to need that with Anthony Davis.
05:28Okay, he's not the guy that kept picked number one.
05:30Look, DeBonce is really good, and I'm excited to watch him.
05:34And I've known him.
05:34He's a Boston kid.
05:35You know, two kids from New England.
05:36No one would have guessed it.
05:37Whether it would have changed the game changes the last two years, him and Cooper Flack.
05:42But what I'll tell you is this.
05:44If they start winning and Ayton gets engaged, you know, he's only $8 million a year.
05:48I think the Chris Middleton pick-up's bigger than everybody thinks.
05:51High-character guy.
05:53Played for Terzian, actually, at Texas A&M.
05:56Porter Guard is a great school in Charleston.
05:58Like, really smart guy.
05:59Middleton won it all.
06:00Because him and Drew Holiday had really, really, you know, yeah, he honestly was talented.
06:04But Middleton and Drew Holiday were kind of running that team.
06:08And I think Middleton's a good pick-up just to teach young guys, like, what to do.
06:11And he can win you some games.
06:12A little bit of an old man game.
06:14We'll think he's running up and down with Jason at the math on a Sunday.
06:18But he's going to help them, too.
06:21The thing about the way Wizards is, if DeBonce can turn it and be as good as everybody thinks is,
06:28this isn't like the Mavericks, where they were a disaster last two guys were hurt.
06:31It was just Flag and nobody else.
06:33They played him at the point.
06:34Like, they got a real, like, ten guys, you know, so they can win a lot of games in January
06:40and February
06:40when everybody's here to hurt.
06:41And that's where Aiton comes in.
06:44Aiton's the biggest question mark.
06:46That's the biggest question mark.
06:46Aiton's the biggest question mark.
06:47Of course.
06:48But, Jimmy, you're saying that your high-end 5-6 seed, based on last year's numbers,
06:53that would put them in a 45-47 win range.
06:58So, you think, based on the names on paper, they could get to mid-40s to maybe 47 wins.
07:05I think that's a little too high.
07:08Some are making the argument that a lot of those wins were because so many teams were tanking last year.
07:12So, that might be a little artificially inflated.
07:14You could be right.
07:15That's a very good point last year.
07:17Now, that's going to be over.
07:18Look, the Celtics won at home.
07:20They didn't have Tatum last year.
07:22They had Brown and Whitewood didn't even have a good year.
07:24All those guys, young guys, grew up, but you have a legit star in Trey Young.
07:29And then, if the boss is as good as he says, the star can block shots.
07:32I really think, sorry.
07:33Look, sorry's the winner in the draft.
07:34Risa Shea's struggling in Atlanta.
07:36Sorry's better than him.
07:37So, they won that one by coming, picking second.
07:40Will Riley's a win.
07:41Keyshawn George is a win.
07:43Like, they've done a good job.
07:45Will Dawkins and Winger and Drafton, but getting wins to that next level, you guys are right.
07:49It's hard to you.
07:50You've got to win at home.
07:51That's why the Celtics won so many games last year.
07:53I didn't even think they were the second-best team in the East at all.
07:56They just won at home.
07:57The fans are going to come out.
07:58They're sold out.
07:59You know, the first 10 games are going to be crazy.
08:02Season tickets are way up.
08:03Good for Zach Young.
08:04Just for Ted going through all this painful rebuilding.
08:08If you win at home, you can get to 45 wins.
08:11Okay.
08:12Jimmy, real quick.
08:13I want to get, as a coach, I want to get your perspective on Keith because, you know,
08:17from our perspective, he didn't win games, but he wasn't asked to win games.
08:21He was asked to develop players.
08:22So, A-plus there.
08:24He's an X-factor because we don't know, down the stretch, last two minutes, what he draws
08:29up, how he inspires guys, you know, that sort of thing.
08:32Is he an X-factor for you, or just tell me your opinion on that?
08:37Yeah, but look at the coaching in the league.
08:38You know, it's changed.
08:40This isn't Phil Jackson out there with certain guys.
08:43Like, coaching's getting the players to like you, and they like him, and they believe in
08:47him.
08:47And I think adding Patrick Ewing to the staff was really good.
08:50David Vanderpool's going upstairs.
08:52And I think there's a consensus that he deserves a chance to show what he can do.
08:57He's a positive guy.
08:58You know, you easily give it, but Patrick Ewing's a nice addition to the staff.
09:03I think he's, Patrick Ewing was a very good assistant with really high marks as an NBA
09:08guy.
09:08I know the Georgetown thing did go well.
09:10So it's, I think, yes, of course he deserves a chance, and let's see how the year goes.
09:15And I want to get off to a good start like everybody else, and it's going to be exciting.
09:19The two games on TV, watch the two games.
09:21This Will Riley might be my X-factor.
09:24This guy might be a legit starter for the next 10 years in the NBA.
09:27I love him.
09:28He really can score.
09:28Yeah, you can.
09:29I love him.
09:29Hey, all right, Jimmy, before we let you go, tomorrow night, right, we got the Wiz playing
09:37the Jazz, we've got A.J. playing, we think, we think D.P. will play just based on, it's
09:43A.J. out there.
09:44He didn't, now, D.P. didn't play last night, but they could have just been giving him the
09:47night off because he's already played, I think, three games.
09:49What are your expectations on how A.J. and D.P. play?
09:54Look, they went at it in Nike, they went at it, you know, in college, at Kansas, and BYU
09:58in terms of that kind of stuff.
09:59Like, I'm sure these guys want to play.
10:02It's the main game on TV.
10:03And Peterson did, came out and said some good things, like how he wanted to show that
10:07Boozer wasn't the third, I mean, wasn't close to him, in other words, he kind of had 21
10:12on 10 the other night.
10:13I think he's going to play, and Peterson should play.
10:16I think the Bounce is going to play the first two, after the first two games in the Summer
10:20League.
10:20I've been there before.
10:21By the way, next year, the Wizards should have a big contingency at the Summer League
10:24fun.
10:25There's two games going on at once in two gyms.
10:28It's really good.
10:29You see, the rosters are going to be crazy because now everybody went to five schools.
10:32But you always used to look at where guys went.
10:34They want to win, you know, I think it's, but remember, it's going to be nerves.
10:38Remember, sorry, I didn't play well his first game.
10:40He didn't make a jump shot.
10:41I was there in Summer League, and he's turned into a really good player.
10:44But it's going to be, is it going to be fun for the TVs to watch?
10:47And Peterson, he wants to play.
10:49He's going to prove to everybody that he, you know, that's a lot of, so, there was so
10:55many things going wrong out there last year that I don't think that's who he is.
10:59But I like DeBossers to pick myself.
11:01I think that's what we need.
11:02He's got a starting 3-4 for the next 12 years, and he's a real star, and he's a real
11:07tough
11:07guy.
11:08He's kind of an alpha in that locker room.
11:10He's going to bring, there's not going to be as much joking around and fun in there.
11:13And I think you saw what that did with the Spurs after a couple of years going to the finals
11:17because, you know, the avatar out there wasn't letting, you know, he was a very serious wants
11:23to win guy and took over the locker room, Wemby.
11:26And that's what, DeBossers got a little bit of an ability to do that.
11:30So that's going to be interesting.
11:31Trae Young will do by, you know, he'll do by doing, you know, he's going to put up his
11:35numbers and play minutes.
11:36Trae Young did a good job on the bench last year.
11:39But DeBossers is going to take this team over eventually, and maybe very quickly, because
11:42that's kind of the way he is.
11:44That's the kind of guy he is.
11:45So I'm really looking forward to seeing how this thing shakes out.
11:48And you guys, you guys did a great job at the draft party.
11:50Everybody was very excited.
11:52And then it was a big night because you guys were there.
11:55Jimmy, you got to roll.
11:56And because you were there, Coach.
11:58Thank you, Coach.
11:59Appreciate it.
12:00See you, bro.
12:00See you, guys.
12:01All right, man.
12:02Jimmy Patsos.
12:03He could literally talk for an hour straight.
12:04Yes.
12:05He could do an hour straight commercial free.
12:06He's funny, though.
12:07He's awesome.
12:08Yeah.
12:08All right.
12:09That was Jimmy Patsos on the Wizards, of course.
12:11Their Summer League debut tomorrow.
12:13By the way, James Wood's dad texted me.
12:16Mm-hmm.
12:16His nickname is Woody.
12:18Oh, there you go.
12:19About easy.
12:21Gotta change it.
12:21Everybody in the clubhouse and dugout calls him Woody.
12:24Gotta change it.
12:25Coming up next, we'll give you a chance to win some great prizes.
12:28We have tickets to a couple of concerts.
