00:00An exodus of Malians from South Africa is continuing, with more than 3,000 Malian nationals now deported or repatriated.
00:08The movement follows growing fears among migrants amid rising anti-foreign attentions and concerns over possible violence.
00:16In Durban, thousands of Malarian citizens gathered at a temporary site seeking assistance.
00:22Since the repatriation started, we have 1,549 that have arrived in Malawi, we have about 1,260 that are
00:34en route, and we also have 700 that were deported.
00:38So in total, we have 3,509 of Malawians that have been repatriated, and also, with the assistance of the
00:49South African government, 700 that have gone to Malawi.
00:54The repatriation follows months of rising tensions in South Africa after thousands took to the streets in Johannesburg and other
01:02cities earlier this year,
01:03protesting illegal immigration and escalating friction between locals and foreign nationals.
01:09I'm here because I don't have money to go home, because the way they tell me that I don't have
01:18a job,
01:19how I lost my job is so painful for me, and I was not having anything, not any money, that
01:26I can go home.
01:27That's why I'm here to have to come, to wait here for the free transport, because I don't have any
01:38money for, that I can take my own, yeah, that's fair.
01:46The operation has faced delays, with too few buses available for the return journey.
01:52Malawian authorities are now appealing for donations to help transport thousands of citizens.
