00:00Amnesty International South Africa is calling on the state to stop vigilante groups unlawfully targeting migrants, business owners and communities.
00:08The organization says people are being harassed because of nationality or passive immigration status with reports of illegal document checks,
00:16intimidation, forced evictions and public shaming.
00:19It says police failures and in some cases possible complicity must be investigated and those responsible held accountable.
00:26Amnesty further said no private individual or group has the authority to enforce immigration laws and that all immigration officers
00:33and police may do so.
00:35It further warned that South Africa's constitutional rights including dignity, freedom and security must protect everyone, citizens, documented migrants and
00:44asylum seekers and undocumented migrants alike.
00:47This comes as anti-immigrant protests continue in South Africa, mainly targeting citizens of other African nationalities.
