Minicamp is underway, and Jayden's transformation and bounce back is the key story as we Hit the Skins!
Transcript
00:00All right, so we're going to get into this article that John Kime put up
00:03because mandatory minicamp is ongoing right now in Ashburn.
00:07And the headline of his article on ESPN.com is Daniels still has, quote,
00:13long way to go to master the commander's offense.
00:17So, of course, he's trying to rebound from last year's injury-marred season.
00:21There's a new offense to master.
00:24His quote was, I've still got a long way to go.
00:28We also have some other audio from Jaden talking about learning David Blau's new offense.
00:34I think just learning the new offense terminology, why we're attacking this play,
00:40what we want to do in this play, things like that.
00:43I mean, man, it's just giving different variations and variety, you know,
00:48different formations, run, play action, either that's in the gun, you know,
00:53wide zone, inside zone, mid zone, things like that.
00:55So, man, I was just hoping up a lot more things that we have to go out there and give.
01:01And then from there, you know, we just keep learning, keep building from there,
01:04and get better in training camp when time comes.
01:07Also in Kime's article, I like the fact that Jaden has turned the page on last year.
01:12His quote is, I'm done talking about last year.
01:15Last year is last year.
01:16I'm moving on to this season.
01:17Whatever happened last year happened last year.
01:20It can't do anything for me.
01:22I'll just continue to get better.
01:24I think that's a good approach.
01:25I'm done talking about last year, last year, last year.
01:28Moving on to this season.
01:31And whatever happened last year is what happened last year.
01:33It can't do anything for me, but just continue to get it better.
01:37I mean, that's just him telling everybody, don't ask about last year anymore.
01:42I'm sick of talking about it.
01:44It's not going to help me master this new offense,
01:47worrying about everything that went sideways in 2025.
01:50Listen, I think it's great.
01:52It's humble for him to say he's got a lot to learn.
01:54But DQ's already gone on record and said he's been kind of blown away with his grasp of the offense
01:59already,
02:00how quickly they've been getting in and out of the huddle.
02:03Right.
02:03Larry Mutunsel was asked about him.
02:05He was very complimentary of Jaden and just said he's going to get it done.
02:10And the way he commands the huddle.
02:14People have talked about how in his third year, just being a lot more vocal.
02:18I think people also underappreciate how smart all these guys are.
02:24I mean, I was even listening.
02:25I mean, offensively, it's ridiculous.
02:27I mean, it's a silly anecdote, but I've told it many times.
02:30When we played the Divas, and I didn't play football.
02:32I played other sports, but we didn't play football.
02:34And so when we played the Divas, and Jason's calling all these plays in formation,
02:37I had to have a friggin' wristband just to line up a tight end.
02:39Just to know what side to line up.
02:40Yeah.
02:41Right?
02:41And that's the most dumbest.
02:42We had three plays.
02:43Right.
02:43And it was still too much information.
02:45I think we had five, but okay.
02:45Okay.
02:46But the amount of processing that these guys do, and how quickly they do it, is unbelievable.
02:53Well, not only to know what...
02:54The verbiage...
02:55What he has to do.
02:56He's got to know what everybody else has to do.
02:57He's got to know what everybody has to do.
02:58Where they're lined up.
02:59What their assignment is.
03:00Yeah.
03:01He's a super smart guy.
03:02I mean, they're all smart.
03:03Like, it's going to take time for him to learn the offense, but he's going to get it locked
03:07in and completely down.
03:09Like, he's super smart.
03:11And even defensively, I was listening...
03:14I don't know if it was Sonny Stiles was talking about it, but they were talking about all the
03:18reads they make, and all the communication, obviously, that these guys have to have.
03:23It's unbelievable.
03:25It's unbelievable the level of knowledge and processing that these guys are doing at the
03:31highest level.
03:33All right, who's got him?
03:33You got him?
03:34You got him?
03:34You got him?
03:35I mean, you know...
03:37And you got to do it in like 15 seconds.
03:39Yeah, yeah.
03:39Well, I mean, to help them, it's a lot of repetition, so...
03:43A lot of repetition.
03:44So it's probably a lot easier for them.
03:46For us, it's impossible.
03:47For them, it's probably a lot easier.
03:48I'm sure.
03:49And they've been doing it their whole life.
03:50True.
03:51But going from college to the pros, so for a rookie, it's obviously much more difficult because
03:56it's totally different.
03:57I can't imagine...
03:58Totally different language.
03:59Yeah, you got a new language.
04:00And now you got a new offensive coordinator, new defensive coordinator.
04:02These guys are going to have their own, right?
04:04Probably a lot of the language does change.
04:07I just have a vibe, and I could be totally wrong on this, but I have a vibe.
04:10Jaden just has a really good year.
04:13I hope.
04:14Maybe similar to rookie year.
04:15Well, that's what Louis Riddick is kind of trumpeting that, too.
04:18He's expecting a big bounce back here.
04:20Now, the only thing that concerns me is the new coordinator.
04:25You're concerned about Blau?
04:26You're not excited?
04:27Well, I'm not necessarily concerned.
04:28Just the unknown?
04:28Just the unknown, right?
04:29Because he's young, and he's a rookie coordinator.
04:32Have you been impressed with him?
04:32No, I like him.
04:33And I think he's going to be good.
04:35But maybe early in the season, you might see some issues with that.
04:39But I just feel like Jaden is going to have...
04:42Statistically, I feel like he's going to have a good year.
04:44I just hope he stays upright and healthy.
04:45You know, I recorded John Kimes' podcast with him.
04:49I think he's going to air it in a few weeks when he's on vacation.
04:51So, he kind of put it in the can.
04:52So, people get to hear that.
04:54I'll remind people when it comes out.
04:56But we talked about how there is a percentage of...
05:01I wouldn't even say it's the fan base.
05:03It's people on the periphery that still, to this day,
05:07are trying to make RG3 comparisons with Jaden.
05:10But league personnel people, coaches around the league that John talks to...
05:14They say, you're crazy.
05:16There's no concern, really.
05:17Listen, is it a big year for Jaden?
05:19No question.
05:20But I don't think anybody thinks he's in the same category...
05:23Talent-wise, no.
05:24...as Robert.
05:25Work ethic-wise.
05:26Right, right.
05:27Everything.
05:27Yeah.
05:28And nobody goes around and goes...
05:31Everyone on the ground...
05:32Look, it's a big year for Dan Quinn.
05:34It's a big year for Adam...
05:34It's a big year for everyone.
05:36Certainly, Jaden Daniels, too.
05:37But nobody really thinks we don't know yet if Washington has their guy.
05:43I mean, he could flop, and then maybe we'll look stupid in a year and go,
05:48yeah, we really don't.
05:48Well, that's why it's a big year.
05:49But I think most people assume he's the real deal.
05:53But don't you feel like he's going to bounce back this year?
05:56Yes.
05:56He stays healthy.
05:57I feel like he is.
05:57My only caveat is I'm very nervous about the schedule.
06:03If they get behind the eight ball early, I just don't know how they're going to respond.
06:09You know, you can get knocked out of this the first three weeks.
06:13Yeah.
06:13I do want him to keep running, though.
06:15I know a lot of the command students don't want him to do that.
06:18Maybe not to the extent he did as a rookie, but he'll still run.
06:21Yeah.
06:22I don't necessarily like the design runs, but if he has to scoot out of a pocket...
06:26He has to.
06:26Eight, ten, twelve yards like that.
06:28Just get out of bounds.
06:29He can't be Tom Brady.
06:29He can't be Matthew Stafford.
06:31No, don't sit back there.
06:31No, no.
06:32He's not going to.
06:32That's his instinct.
06:33Correct.
06:34His instinct is his takeoff.
06:35But as long as he knows...
06:37And this is year three, so I know he knows he has to avoid his hits.
06:40Here's what he has to do.
06:40Yeah, exactly.
06:41And he'll be good at that.
06:42And I thought he was getting a little bit better at getting down.
06:45But, you know, hey, this is third year now.
06:47He's suffered all these different injuries.
06:48He knows how brutal some of these hits can be and awkward some of these hits can be.
06:53And we were also talking about this yesterday with John, too.
06:55That some people are trying to say, hey, he looks a little bigger here, a little bigger there.
06:59Five pounds here or there is not going to make a difference.
07:04It's a kind of level of pounding he's going to be able to take or not, right?
07:08He's always going to be a sort of smaller slider quarterback.
07:12He's going to have a wiry type of frame.
07:13He's always going to be that guy.
07:14Chex, what did he rush for rookie year?
07:16Was it about 800?
07:17I think it was 800 plus, but I'd have to pull it up.
07:20It was a lot.
07:21It was 891.
07:22Yeah, almost 900.
07:23I mean, that's a great year.
07:24I don't think he'll be at 891.
07:26I mean, he's got to be, in my opinion, he's got to be in that 7 to 8 range.
07:31I think he will.
07:32Because his 891 yards, I don't have the numbers in front of me.
07:36I've got him right here.
07:37That has to put him in, like, the top 35, 40-ish rushers in the league.
07:42Oh, I'm sure it would do.
07:43Like, maybe even higher.
07:44Like, that puts him way high up on that list.
07:46I don't think he's going to be at that number, but I think 650, 700 yards is kind of what
07:53you should look for.
07:54I don't know what the Vegas number is on him, rushing-wise, in 2026.
07:58All right, in 2024, Jaden Daniels finished.
08:02We'll see, Brian Robinson finished.
08:04Actually, he was behind him.
08:0723.
08:08Okay, he's top 25 in rushing.
08:10Yeah, 23.
08:11That's impressive.
08:12And Brian Robinson was at 27.
08:13But remember, I think the offense is going to be more prolific, too.
08:17And the offense in 24 was unbelievable.
08:20Maybe they won't get to those numbers, but they might with Chig, with Terry, if he stays
08:28healthy, with Rashad White out of the backfield.
08:31If Antonio Williams is as good as some of us think he might be, I don't know.
08:37The new offense, with moving guys around.
08:41I know, listen to them talk to Terry.
08:43Terry's super excited about the way they're utilizing him and the way he's going to be
08:48able to sort of maximize his abilities in this offense.
08:50It could be a big year incoming for one Terry.
08:52I'm surprised there wasn't a new Brandon Ayuk vid yesterday, unless I'm missing something.
08:57The only one I saw was getting on the scale.
08:59Maybe he's taking a day off.
09:01You know what?
09:02Good.
09:02Good, right, right.
09:02Take the long weekend off, Brandon.
09:05You know what?
09:05Yeah.
09:05Maybe a video in a few weeks.
09:07But I think the original point is, it's a good thing that Jaden says he has a lot to
09:14learn in the offseason.
09:16And he's going to grind it out.
09:18Does anybody think that Jaden Daniels is going to be ill-prepared for week one?
09:22Definitely not.
09:22No, no, no.
09:23He will be fully prepared.
09:24He'll be completely locked in.
09:26And we're all on board that we think he's going to bounce back and have a good year.
09:29Provided he stays healthy.
09:30As long as he's on the field.
09:31As long as he stays healthy.
