00:00Yeah, that was Dan Quinn. You heard the question from John Kime on how last season impacted Jaden Daniels.
00:09I think it's, you know, one of those conversations that we've already had and we're going to have between now
00:16and opening day in Philadelphia.
00:18And we've got basically three months between now and the opener.
00:22And you heard what he said there. You know, some of it may not be until the game.
00:27You know, in practice, you don't get to demonstrate some of that stuff.
00:31But for sure, you know, it's a big piece. And, you know, we want him to be able to express
00:36that.
00:36But some of that won't be able to be realized until you get to the games.
00:41Yeah, you can say that pretty much about everything when it comes to this particular sport.
00:45You know, coaching players, team chemistry, team productivity.
00:50It's so hard to determine anything about this league until they start playing for real.
00:56You know, so much more so now than in the past because they don't even hit for much of the
01:03offseason.
01:04And this game comes down to hitting and tackling things that don't get practiced a lot.
01:09But I was thinking about Jaden Daniels and just what last year ended up being for a lot of you,
01:16which was, you know, a disappointment at the very least.
01:20I personally can't stand the description of regressed major step back season.
01:28I just don't get anybody that would feel that way about a guy that literally only played start to finish
01:34four football games in the 2025 season.
01:39Only participated in seven of the 17 football games.
01:43It's impossible to actually evaluate somebody's season on that little of a sample size.
01:53Disappointing is one way to describe it.
01:56It's disappointing that he got hurt.
01:58It's disappointing that he wasn't able to play.
02:01It's disappointing that when he did play, the rest of the team wasn't playing in a lot of those situations.
02:08The whole year was an absolute cluster, you know what, because of the lack of availability of their best players
02:18for anywhere approaching the majority of the season.
02:25I want you to think about right now, again, we got a long way to go between now and the
02:31opener.
02:31But there's not going to be a lot that we learn between now and the opener about almost anything, except
02:38for the things I always point out.
02:40Injuries, real information.
02:43Real information and real, you know, impact.
02:46So, knock on wood, he doesn't get injured between now and the opener against Philadelphia.
02:53Come up with a description of the type of season he, Jaden Daniels, would need to have for you to
03:04feel like he is what you thought he was going to be at the end of the 2024 season.
03:12You can come up with any description.
03:14It can be team-oriented.
03:16It could be as simple as, I just want to see him upright for 17 games.
03:20It could be statistically what you want to see from him.
03:26You know, touchdown passes, yards, rushing yards, you know, completion, whatever it is.
03:32Right now, come up with how you think you'll need to feel about the upcoming season for you to believe
03:41that he is what you thought he would be at the end of 2024.
03:46Now, you know, maybe not all of us felt the same way at the end of 2024.
03:52I thought what we had just witnessed was the greatest rookie quarterback season that we had ever seen.
04:00That literally a rookie quarterback strapped an entire team, an entire organization to his back and carried the team, the
04:13organization, to its first NFC championship game in 33 years.
04:19Because all of the examples of rookie quarterbacks who had made championship games previously were really led by their defenses.
04:29Washington had a bad defense in 2024.
04:32It had a supporting cast offensively that was, you know, not anywhere near elite or anywhere near, you know, really
04:42good.
04:42Uh, this was a quarterback who led the team in every way, shape imaginable to an NFC title game, uh,
04:55as a rookie player.
04:57And so my feeling coming off of 2024, and maybe not all of you agreed, I think many of you
05:02will, you know, agreed with this is that, oh my God, we have an elite level quarterback.
05:10It's only one year, but that was elite level quarterbacking.
05:16By the way, in every possible way, as a pocket passer, as a, uh, an extend out of the pocket
05:27runner thrower, as a leader, as a clutch time performer, everything you'd look for in elite level quarterbacking.
05:38He checked off every single box in 2024.
05:43There was, as we got late into the season, we were looking for, well, he hasn't had the opportunity to
05:50play big in a big game.
05:52He hasn't had the opportunity to play in big games, but then it was easy to check off those boxes.
06:00The comeback against Philadelphia late in the season, the comeback against Atlanta to clinch a playoff berth in overtime.
06:06And then of course, the incredible two road playoff wins that he led in Tampa and in Detroit against the
06:15one seed who was heavily favored in their building.
06:17And then quite honestly, he played pretty well against the best defensive team in the NFL, you know, at the
06:24end of that year, not only in the game at FedEx, uh, but in the game, uh, in Philly, uh,
06:31in the link in the NFC championship game.
06:33Uh, he was not the problem in that game, um, but, uh, what do you think you'll need to see
06:42from him in the upcoming season that will put us into a, a spot that we were in this time
06:50last year, which is we're talking about, yeah, it's obvious.
06:55He's the guy we have the guy, he's one of the best.
07:00He's one of the true upper tier elite quarterbacks.
07:04He's one of the top four or five, six quarterbacks in the game.
07:07You have to have one of those and we have one.
07:10Um, so, uh, you know, given this some thought and it's, it's in a lot of different, you know, uh,
07:18areas that I, I, for me are important.
07:21Now I'll just start off by saying this, I actually don't need to be convinced.
07:28I'm a big fan.
07:30I don't need to be convinced.
07:32You know, I have certainly had conversations with people who, you know, are close to the situation.
07:38They're not even a little bit concerned based on last year.
07:43They absolutely feel the exact same way about him that they did at the end of 2024.
07:50Just in case some of you think, oh, they're really sweating it.
07:55They're really concerned.
07:56They're not.
07:58They absolutely believe that what they saw in 2024 is an elite level quarterback, an elite level work ethic, an
08:08elite level maturity.
08:09Everything about him speaks to, we got it right at number two in the 2024 draft.
08:16And last year, hopefully is that aberration year in which our quarterback wasn't healthy.
08:24Lamar Jackson's been through it.
08:26Uh, Patrick Mahomes went through it last year.
08:28Uh, obviously we've seen, you know, um, Burrow and other elite level quarterbacks deal with seasons in which they weren't
08:37available enough to perform.
08:39Uh, you don't want that to happen because it derails seasons when your best player is a quarterback and he's
08:45not playing, but they don't feel like there was a regression.
08:50It's laughable to them.
08:51It's laughable to me.
08:53You know, even when we get into breaking down the games and I've heard so many people say, oh, he
08:58was terrible against the giants.
09:00He wasn't that good against Chicago.
09:03He was no, uh, Chicago, the giant games and opener.
09:07He was fine.
09:08He was not good, nor was the team against green Bay.
09:11He was excellent against the chargers.
09:14It was reminiscent of 2024 and he was pretty damn good until the rain started to fall.
09:20And he had a backbreaking game ending turnover against the bears, but he played well.
09:26Those are the four games that he played start to finish in, um, for me, I, I'm not saying that
09:35I am concerned because the data wouldn't suggest that we should be concerned about injury.
09:40Okay.
09:41So he played 20 games as a rookie, didn't miss a game, played 52 of 54 games in college last
09:49year, obviously a major injury riddled season.
09:52I think what adds to those that have concern was this was a concern based on his body type and
09:59the way he looked, you know, skinny, you know, thin, you know, looks breakable.
10:05Can't, you know, he can't make a living with that frame running as much as he does.
10:11He's not cam Newton.
10:13You know, that's not the kind of player he's going to be.
10:16He's not even Jalen hurts.
10:17Who's got a much bigger frame.
10:19Um, I am just going to go with the data and say that last year was the aberration fingers crossed,
10:26but for me, even with that feeling that last year was an aberration, I do think that what's important to
10:37me.
10:37And I think everything else will follow is that he just becomes a better decision maker in games with this
10:48third year, second year, really playing because he didn't play that much last year again.
10:53But to me, once I see that he isn't treating first and 10 in a three, three game early in
11:04the second quarter, the same way he should treat fourth and five down seven in the fourth quarter.
11:11That's going to be an indication to me that the last part of what I really wanted to see sort
11:17of checked off the box, consistent understanding of decision-making importance and picking your spots to be, to lay it
11:28all out.
11:29I want to see that even in the first and 10 on a scramble where he's got an opportunity to
11:39slide or to get out of bounds and not take a hit.
11:42And instead he turns it up field and takes a big shot.
11:46So I want to see that specific area of growth in terms of the things that some of you felt
11:56like he'd do well, you know, was late last year.
12:00I chalked that all up to the players he was playing with, the protection.
12:05And I think, by the way, this scheme will be good for him.
12:09It will be good for him.
12:11But I think, honestly, if you get a couple of, you know, rookie, overly, you know, reliant on legs decisions,
12:24if you dial those back and you pick your spots on that, I think we're going to see an elite
12:30level player.
12:31And part of that, too, lends, you know, or blends into, you know, just keeping him healthier.
12:39Because this team isn't going to be any good, obviously, if he's not healthy.
12:44So for me, I'm looking for your descriptions as much as anything else, because I'm already a believer.
12:51I'm already a person that chalks up last year not to regression.
12:57I mean, I think it's an absurd notion that he regressed.
13:01He didn't play.
13:03But it does lead to a couple of areas that I've described that also blend into keeping him upright and
13:11healthy.
13:11There's no reason for a second and, you know, a second and ten on a play in which you're going
13:21to get four yards instead of two to take the shot for the two extra yards in the first quarter.
13:27We've got to see him pick his spots and be more wise in not only protecting himself, but, you know,
13:39making sure that he understands the reason that it makes sense to protect himself in the moment.
13:44I would never want him on fourth and four down, you know, 27-23 with less than two minutes to
13:52go and they're going for it.
13:54I would never want anything other than whatever he has to do to move the chains and keep possession of
14:00the ball.
14:01Those are the moments you can't worry about what the end result is after the play.
14:05You're trying to win the game.
14:08301-230-0980, 301-230-0980.
14:13Come up with a description of the type of season he needs to have, Jaden Daniels needs to have, for
14:21you to feel like the way you felt at the end of 2024, that we have an elite quarterback.
