00:57Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Lorena Fong from the Telesur Studios in Caracas, Venezuela. We begin with the
01:03news. Stay with us.
01:32We begin now with the information.
01:48The Supreme Court found it proven that Eduardo Bolsonaro traveled to the United States in early 2025, with the aim
01:59of pressuring the Trump administration to impose trade tariffs on Brazil.
02:03And even more seriously, to personally sanction the judges investigating his father, who is accused of being a cop-a
02:10-plotter.
02:17He acted against the Brazilian people, against Brazilian institutions, and against the Brazilian judiciary, by providing confidential information to US
02:30authorities, and persisting in doing so, even when this could cause significant economic and social damage to Brazil.
02:39While continuing to use coercion to benefit his own father.
02:49Ecuador's President Daniel Novo has declared a new state of emergency due to internal unrest.
02:54Measure will be in effect in 10 provinces and 3 cantons for the next 60 days.
02:59The decree authorizes the suspension of the inviolability of the home and correspondence.
03:05With this authority, security forces will conduct immediate raids to combat organized crime.
03:09They also emphasize that for now a curfew is not in effect, although the executive branch retains the option to
03:16decree on throughout future amendments.
03:18This decision contradicts previous statements by the Ministry of Interior, and the government had assured that it will implement a
03:25new security strategy without resorting to a state of emergency again.
03:30Furthermore, the announcement coincides with Novo's recent visit to the Pentagon, where he met with the US Secretary of Defense.
03:43The United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres paid a one-day visit to Haiti on Tuesday, as the country continues
03:50to face escalating violence by armed groups.
03:53Guterres' first stop was the headquarters of the newly created armed group Suppression Force, approved by the United Nations Security
04:00Council in September.
04:02The first will replace a previous United Nations-backed mission led by Kenyan police that struggled with funding and staffing
04:09shortages.
04:10According to the United Nations, the crisis has displaced one in every ten Haitians and claimed thousands of lives.
04:17In that context, the United Nations figures show that 2,300 people have been killed across Haiti so far this
04:25year.
04:25The visit also includes closed-door talks with Prime Minister Alex Didier, Phil Saimé, as pressure grows to organize elections
04:33in the country.
04:39I'm here with a message of hope.
04:42For the first time in many years, there is finally some light at the end of the tunnel.
04:49Haiti has a chance to turn a corner, but only if the international community assumes its responsibilities.
05:10And ahead of the second round of the presidential election in Colombia, independent journalists and media outlets have documented
05:16a series of allegations against the campaign of Alraic Andrieta Velardo de la Espriella.
05:21According to investigations data, on more than 1.4 million citizens was elected
05:26collected illegally to send targeted political content to mobile phones.
05:31There were also allegations that spreadsheets were distributed to Barranquilla City Hall's officials
05:36to collect information on potential voters with requests between 20 and 100 votes per person.
05:42In addition, it was documented the circulation of false information such as fictitious medical records
05:49and billboards depicting opponents as guerrilla fighters to instill fear among the electorate.
05:55Furthermore, the candidate of the historical pact, Ivan Zepeda, has condemned these practices
05:59and its demanding electoral guarantees for next Sunday, June 21.
06:19Colombian President Gustavo Petro denounced the stigmatization and persecution of his government's official
06:25and supporters by far-right presidential candidate Averardo de la Espriella.
06:29The head of state said that these are individuals who currently or previously served in his administration
06:35and are now being threatened by de la Espriella with sanctions to be imposed by the U.S. Office of
06:40Foreign Assets Control,
06:41simply because they do not share his political views.
06:44Through a message posted on X, the Colombian President warned that de la Espriella had sworn allegiance to the United
06:50States,
06:51a country of which he has been a neutralized citizen since 2023.

07:40Welcome back to From the South, we continue with more information on Tuesday.
07:44Acting President of Venezuela, Adelcy Rodriguez, received executives from Repsol at Miraflores Palace
07:50for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in Oil and Gas Matter between PDVSA and the Spanish Company.
07:57In this scenario, Repsol Chief Executive Officer Josu Joimas highlighted the strategic value of the strong relationship
08:04between the multinational company and the South American country.
08:08Repsol and Venezuela's state oil industry are a strategic partner with more than 30 years of collaboration,
08:13seeking to strengthen alliances that promote foreign investment in the country
08:19and support development of its productive sectors.
08:23Repsol expertise across the entire energy value chain combined with PDVSA's
08:29contributes to activities ranging from oil and gas exploration and production
08:34to refining, marketing and developing renewable energy projects.
08:44Venezuela's acting President, Adelcy Rodriguez, also emphasized that this agreement not only guarantees the country's gas and electricity supply,
08:51but also outlines an energy agenda throughout 2015 that will benefit all of humanity.
09:00I also want to share some good news that we, both Repsol and PDVSA, under the support of the Ministry
09:06of Hydrocarbons,
09:08will not continue to explore other areas of cooperation to keep growing, which is what matters, to look towards the
09:14future.
09:16We are talking about an energy agenda that looks ahead to 2050.
09:21And in this energy agenda, in which both Venezuela and its international partners are involved,
09:27let us consider the benefits it will bring to humanity.
09:30I appreciate this agreement, and I appreciate that Repsol has been a partner committed to the Venezuelan people.
09:38As the President of Venezuela pointed out, guaranteeing gas for households, industries, the electricity sector, and the petrochemical industry.
09:49And that today we are also expanding into the oil sector.
09:53Thank you Repsol.
09:54Our doors are open in Venezuela for you to continue expanding your investments, which are guaranteed by new regulations,
10:01so that you can continue to view our country as a reliable partner in which to invest your capital,
10:07but also as a reliable partner to march together towards the future of the world.
10:27We are going to take you back where the Council of State has called for the third extraordinary session
10:32of the National Assembly of People's Power to be held on June 18 to evaluate economic and social reforms.
10:39The notice, published in the Official Gazette and on the Cuban Parliament's website,
10:44is based on the provisions of the Constitution on the law on the organization and functioning of the National Assembly,
10:51and has been communicated to members of Parliament and the relevant national and legal presence.
10:56Furthermore, the extraordinary session is taking place against the backdrop of a resurgence in the U.S. blockade,
11:01which has severely impacted the country's economy,
11:05and aims to implement a series of measures to address and transform the economic and social reality of the Cuban
11:12people.
11:35In the Middle East, Iran warns the Zionist regime of more devastating strikes if attacked Lebanon and continue.
11:42In this regard, the Yatamalan BIA headquarters reported 84 Israeli attacks over the past two days.
11:48These incursions occurred after the United States denounced a deal to end the war.
11:53In this scenario, Tehran stated that the Israeli military is carrying out systematic offensive against the Lebanese civilian population.
12:00This escalating violence is high in tensions in the region, and Iran is conditioning its actions on an immediate cessation
12:07of hostilities.
12:08Let's recall that since the beginning of the conflict, the Israeli attacks have left more than 3,700 people dead
12:15in Lebanon.
12:22The United States has formally rejected the Israeli regime's request to preview the memorandum of understanding recently agreed upon with
12:30Iran.
12:30According to the local media reports, Washington blocked Tel Aviv's access to the official document
12:36regarding concerns about possible leaks before its signing in Switzerland.
12:41For his part, the Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu admitted that he is unaware of the exact content of the
12:47agreement,
12:48which has already sparked public friction and heated international political debates in Israel.
12:53In this context, Netanyahu stated that he will continue his military offensive in the region.
13:05Pro-Palestinian activists in Geneva held a silent protest on Tuesday,
13:09after authorities banned the group's weekly gathering due to security measures linked to the G7 summit.
13:15The demonstration was organized by members of the collective Urgence Palestine Cup,
13:20which normally stages a one-hour rally with speeches and chants every Tuesday evening.
13:26Participants said the demonstration marked a sharp departure from the group's usual format.
13:31The demonstration coincided with increased security measures surrounding the G7 summit in Aviv and Lisbon,
13:37just across French border, Swiss.
13:40Authorities have increased police deployments and introduced temporary restrictions on some public gatherings,
13:47as were leaders gathered in France from June 15 to 17.
13:54I've come here since this March, every single week.
13:58And usually it lasts for an hour, every Tuesday between 6 to 7 p.m.
14:02And we would always continuously have speakers, and then between speakers we would have chants like
14:07Work Up Work Up UBS, or Nous sommes tous les enfants de Gaza.
14:12But I'm also surprised because today I just thought it was going to be another one of those protests,
14:17but suddenly people are not speaking.
14:19Usually we don't have the police, but because of the G7 happening now in Aviv,
14:26so they are trying for security reasons, trying to block every gathering.
14:32So you see the woods everywhere on the bridge, because on Sunday they had a very aggressive manifestation,
14:40and apparently they don't want us to get together.
14:43Yet they are leaving this place for us, but we are just...
14:58We are here despite the ban because we will not stop until our authorities change their policy.
15:04So, that is roughly what I can tell you today.
15:07There is also a prohibition because of the G7, but that is not going to stop us from gathering on
15:14Tuesdays
15:14and carrying out other actions.
15:18The Australian Federal Police have launched an investigation into allegations of sexual assault
15:24and torture involving 11 Australian activists detained after their guest about the humanitarian flotilla
15:30was intercepted in May.
15:32The investigation follows a meeting in Canberra on Monday between Foreign Minister Penny Wong
15:37and the activists.
15:39This comes one month after the United Nations added Israel to its developmental blacklist
15:43for sexual violence in armed conflict.
15:46The activists were among those detained after the intercession of the flotilla
15:50which was attempting to reach Gaza with humanitarian aid.
15:54Australia is not alone in examining the allegations.
15:57Italy, Canada, Germany and France have also opened investigations
16:01into accounts provided by their nationals who were detained during the same operation.
16:13An internal report by the humanitarian organization Doctors Without Borders has revealed the serious cases
16:19of sexual abuse and exploitation committed to staff members of this organization
16:24against Sudanese refugee women and shady and female workers.
16:28The investigation launched by the organization itself following several allegations,
16:34most of which were made in the media, documented a total of 59 allegations
16:38of various forms of violence and sexual exploitation against women fleeing the war.
16:44Among the offences reported are sexual abuse of minors, forced prostitution and demands for sexual favours
16:51in exchange for food, water, milk or promises of employment, taking advantage of their extreme vulnerability.
16:58As a result, 18 employees have been dismissed for the serious offences.

17:47Welcome back to From the South.
17:49Hundreds of Argentine fans gathered in Buenos Aires on Tuesday to watch the national team's World Cup opener,
17:55which ended with a strong 3-0 win over Algeria in its first group J-Match, a rowhead stadium in
18:01Kansas City.
18:02In this sense, the defending champions looked comfortable from the start
18:07and showed why they are one of the favourites to win the tournament.
18:11Again, Lionel Messi was once again one of the key players as Argentina controlled most of the game.
18:17For this part, Algeria tried to stay organised and used the speed of its forward to create chances.
18:23But Argentina's quality with the ball made the difference.
18:26As the match went on, the South Americans took control and played with confidence.
18:31The victory gives Argentina's first three points of the tournament and a strong start in Group J.
18:51What can you say?
18:59What can you say?
19:06Look at the national team.
19:07It could be Messi's last one.
19:09Look at what he did.
19:10Three goals.
19:11Brilliant.
19:12And at the last World Cup, I was also here from the beginning.
19:14And well, we are going to come here to the FanFest to always support the national team.
19:19I got very emotional with the third goal, tears came to my eyes because Messi is eternal, he is giving
19:24us so much joy, and you can tell he is enjoying it, and we give thanks, I give thanks for
19:28being here at this moment, because having him is something unique, it is the best thing that can happen to
19:33us, and he unites the country, he brings everyone together in one great celebration.
19:40Norway also opened their campaign in style with a 4-1 win over Iraq. It was a Dream World Cup
19:46debut for Erling Haaland, who struck twice, showing his trademark power and movements inside the box. Norway's attacking structure built
19:54around quick vertical transitions and wide deliveries from Martin Oldgaard. Constantly stretched the Iraqi bike line, Iraq struck back throughout
20:02Ayman Hussain's header to briefly level the match,
20:06but Norway's set-piece strength proved decisive. Christopher Ostergaard restored the lead before substitute Thorstevede sealed it late on.
20:21Erling Haaland announced himself on the World Cup stage in brutal fashion, scoring twice. The striker was relentless from the
20:28first whistle, pinning defenders, taking every cross and converting his chances with clinical precision.
20:34His first goal came from a powerful finish inside the box after sustained Norwegian pressure, and his second seal did
20:41the result as Iraq pushed forward late. Beyond the goals, Haaland's movements constantly disrupt Iraq's defensive shape, opening space for
20:51Norway's wide players and midfield runners.
20:57After the opening match in Group A, it's a two-horse race at the top with Norway and France both
21:05starting with statement wins. Both teams sit on three points. Goal difference is what puts Norway on the number one
21:12spot.
21:12At the bottom, Senegal and Iraq are yet to pick up a point to first with a 1-3 defeat
21:18and the latter with a 1-4 setback. With identical early records at the top Group A is perfectly balanced
21:28heading into Match Day 2, where the clash between Norway and France is already shaping up as a potential group
21:34decider.
21:41In another special interview with our multi-platform Cape Verdean Econ Vucinia, the goalkeeper responsible for holding Spain to a
21:49coreless draw in Cape Verde's first ever World Cup match, spoke on the power of football to the United Nations.
21:57Sport, in itself, should always be present in nations, regardless of the discipline being practiced, because it has the power
22:05to unite an entire country.
22:07However, football, as the king of sports, has an even greater impact. What people have experienced, and what we ourselves
22:14have experienced, is something truly special I do not know if anything similar has ever been witnessed before.
22:20I hope football will always continue to bring that joy and unity, which should never come to an end. People
22:26need to be united and happy, even while knowing that many face difficult situations and endure great hardships. As for
22:33us, we will continue doing everything possible to honor the name of our country and to see our people happy.
22:40And with this information, we have come to the end of this brief. Remember, you can find this and many
22:45other stories on our website at www.talesurenglish.net and join us on social media. We are on Facebook, X,
