Directed with rich visual atmosphere and signature colored lighting by horror maestro Mario Bava, this chilling feature follows Peter Kleist (Antonio Cantafora), a young American college graduate who travels to Austria to visit his ancestral home and research his family history. Peter's infamous ancestor, Baron Otto von Kleist, was a sadist known as "Baron Blood" who tortured hundreds of peasants before being cursed to death by a witch. Joined by Eva (Elke Sommer), a beautiful student restoring the castle into a hotel, Peter locates an ancient parchment containing the incantation needed to resurrect the evil Baron. Out of curiosity, they read the spell aloud at midnight inside the castle, accidentally bringing the sadistic monster back to life. Disfigured and driven by an insatiable thirst for vengeance, the resurrected Baron begins stalking the town, murdering anyone who stands in his way. To conceal his hideous form, he assumes the identity of Alfred Becker (Joseph Cotten), a wealthy wheelchair-bound nobleman who buys the estate. As the body count rises inside the foggy castle corridors, Peter and Eva must find a way to break the curse before the Baron reclaims his medieval reign of terror.
