00:00The tweet that got the text thread buzzing for the boys here came from Jake Fisher.
00:06We're going to talk some whiz here.
00:07Eventually, we are in Ashburn, BigBear.ai Performance Center for minicamp.
00:12Plenty of Commanders talk coming your way, but this whiz stuff is heating up.
00:16We're a week away from the NBA draft.
00:18I'll be up there in Brooklyn for draft night.
00:20Look forward to, you know, this is my first NBA.
00:23I've covered Wizards games, obviously, and I've done a zillion NFL events.
00:27I've never done an NBA event.
00:28I'm very curious how different it is from NFL events.
00:34I don't know.
00:35I mean, the NFL has a little bit more luster, but they're there.
00:40Yeah.
00:40They're good.
00:40I also think the NBA stuff is going to have a far more international component.
00:44Yeah, yeah.
00:45Which, I don't know, I'm excited.
00:46It should be cool.
00:47Regardless, though, the thing that got my mind racing, Jake Fisher, part of the Stein line, Mark Stein media ecosystem.
00:57Jake Fisher tweeted out this morning.
00:59While the expectation remains that Trey Young will find a new longer-term agreement with the Wizards, sources say several
01:06teams, including Miami, are considering trade avenues to add the four-time All-Star guard, while Washington mulls its decision
01:14regarding next week's number one pick in the NBA draft.
01:17I'm reading now, again, from Fisher.
01:19He says, I've been told by various sources, in addition to the LA Clippers' Kawhi Leonard and Memphis' Ja Morant,
01:26Wizards point guard Trey Young has emerged as another big fish backup option for the Miami Heat in the event
01:32that Boston, Portland, or some other team manages to outbid Pat Riley and co.
01:37in the trade chase for Giannis.
01:42I'll try to say the last name.
01:44Antetokounmpo.
01:45Antetokounmpo.
01:46Yeah.
01:46Giannis is what I'm going to call him.
01:48I was listening to Bill Simmons' podcast over the weekend.
01:51He thinks Giannis is going to Boston.
01:54If you're Giannis, one, you're going to need a big new contract.
01:58But two, listen, Giannis has been playing in Milwaukee for a decade.
02:04You think Giannis is going to Portland?
02:06Nah.
02:07No.
02:08Like, Miami I could see.
02:10Boston I could see.
02:11Somehow the Lakers get involved.
02:13He now needs bright lights.
02:14He's going to a big market.
02:15Yeah, yeah.
02:15So, sorry, Portland.
02:16I love Bandon Dunes.
02:17It ain't happening.
02:19So, Giannis is the biggest mover here, right?
02:22And this probably happens sometime in the next week with the draft coming.
02:28Washington, now at least there is interest in Trey Young.
02:32And I wanted to say this.
02:32Like, I loved Trey Young's attitude upon being traded to the Wizards because he could have said the, like, oh,
02:41man, the Wizards, I don't want to go there.
02:42What is that team all about?
02:44Trey Young was all in.
02:45Like, he was wearing the Ovi jersey.
02:47He was on the bench getting riled up.
02:50You know, he actually played some games unlike Anthony Davis.
02:53So, I've really enjoyed Trey Young's kind of energy since he arrived here.
02:59That said, for me, if the debate is we're going to move Trey because we think we're going to go
03:05with Peterson and he's the real deal, he's our guy going forward, I'm not mad at it.
03:11Like, you acquire Trey Young, one, because you think he can help you win games.
03:15He's a good player.
03:16Two, you acquired him on the cheap.
03:18Three, I think with Trey Young and with Anthony Davis, those are fluid assets.
03:25They can help you or they might not, but they can help you in other ways.
03:30And the teams that get built in the NBA that are great, I don't think Washington is going, more and
03:37more with the Supermax contracts, guys aren't getting to free agency.
03:42We're not seeing another LeBron the decision show, you know what I mean?
03:47Like, these guys don't get to free agency because the Supermax contract keeps them where they are.
03:52So, more and more players are acquired via trade.
03:55And I think if that's Trey Young's purpose here is to then get flipped for something else.
04:04Just think about it.
04:05Like, when they started doing things, and listen, you have to look at the track record of Dawkins and all
04:11those guys right now with this team.
04:13That's what they've done before.
04:15And I know many people always say, grab this guy, grab the guy.
04:19I don't think they're flipping a, they're going to just all of a sudden be in the championship next year.
04:24But you have to be able to start competing.
04:27And if they end up moving to Trey, drafting Peterson, you made a move with Utah, you see what I'm
04:34saying?
04:35Yeah.
04:35And you get all these assets in a matter of two years, and you expect them to be really, really
04:40competing for one.
04:42Not just out there trying to make a playoff, trying to compete to be there at the end.
04:45So, I don't see anything wrong with them trying to move like that.
04:49Totally.
04:49And the better you put yourself in position, you know, the better chance you have of succeeding.
04:57The fact that Oklahoma City, and I recognize they lost game seven of the Western Conference Finals.
05:02They also had some injured players.
05:03But OKC is loaded.
05:05They have stars.
05:06They have role players.
05:07And you know what else they have?
05:08They have two first-round picks this year.
05:11OKC's holding 12 and 17.
05:13You look at teams in even footballs like that, some guys win the championship, they're right there, and then they
05:21still have multiple.
05:23Like the Eagles, they have all those damn picks in the first round.
05:28They're always competing at a high level.
05:30You know, I want to see that type of thing.
05:32I don't feel we got to be good and then fall off.
05:36I want to be good and still be good this year, have the assets to be good, and still have
05:44some more to be continuously good down the stretch.
05:48I hate this rollercoaster thing.
05:50Right.
05:51I have said repeatedly how much I like Yaxle Lendenborg, right?
05:56The second big man from Michigan.
06:00I don't know anything.
06:01And I know Washington was able to acquire Trey Young relatively cheap.
06:06But the Miami Heat have the 13th overall pick.
06:11If the organization wants to move forward with Peterson and they get 13 for Trey and then they're able to
06:19get whoever that might be, Mara, Lendenborg, maybe the kid Nate Ament from Tennessee that's, I believe, a Manassas native.
06:28Maybe that guy doesn't get to 13.
06:31Maybe at 13 somebody else wants to move up and you move back again and acquire more picks.
06:35But if you do something at the top, if you do something at the top with Utah and they hook
06:40you up and you also could do this deal and have a third, you don't know who you, you might
06:45be able to get two of the top five guys.
06:47You get what I'm saying?
06:48You can maneuver some things.
06:50Listen, bro, if they're going to go out there doing it, let's go out there willing and dealing.
06:57Dude, shake it up.
06:58If you're going to be able to make the move, you have the wherewithal to get it done.
07:04Hey, there's no one guaranteed.
07:07I say you go out and try to get as much as you can.
07:10I don't want to say dream scenarios because that's too rich, right?
07:13If they take A.J.
07:14DeBonson number one, that's pretty damn close to a dream scenario.
07:17They love him.
07:18He's the guy.
07:19Cool.
07:19But if there's a world, Brian, where you get something big from Utah going one to two to let them
07:26get DeBonson, then you take Peterson at two, then you move Trae Young and get 13 from Miami or something
07:32else, it gets pretty juicy.
07:36Very.
07:37Hey.
07:38They hold all the cards, man.
07:41I be smiling.
07:42Let's hit these phones.
07:43My guy Jackson is in Roundhill.
07:45What's up, Jax?
07:46What do you think about this Trae Young trade chatter?
07:50Hey, what's up, J.P.?
07:52So I just want to say I would really – my dream scenario is for us to take A.J.
07:57at one.
07:57I'm in love with A.J.
07:59I think he's a great player.
08:00I also really like Trae Young.
08:02But in the scenario that they do take Darren Peterson number one over A.J. DeBonson, I think that they
08:09should trade Trae Young due to the fact that they have another young promising guard in Trae Johnson.
08:14And I still really believe in him.
08:16And if they can get a good haul for Trae Young, then, yeah, that's all I'm really saying.
08:21What do you think of that?
08:22Dude, I think if they keep Trae and he's great here, that's awesome.
08:28Yeah.
08:28If they trade him and get a bunch of assets, that's also awesome.
08:32So I'm with you.
08:33I think the key for the Wizards to me is fluidity.
08:39And now it's easy to be fluid when you're just god-awful and don't have many assets with which to
08:46operate.
08:48I know they've been god-awful.
08:49Rooster, if you're listening, I'm aware of what the record is.
08:52But the number one pick, Trae Young, Anthony Davis, those are assets.
08:56Like, what makes something an asset?
08:58Like, there's always the joke about baseball cards that get really expensive.
09:01You could say that they have a value of $100 or $1,000 or whatever.
09:06Unless someone's willing to pay that number, it all just exists in Ether.
09:12These are assets that people will be willing to pay for.
09:15I'm with you.
09:16When I talk to Winger, I ask him about the phone calls.
09:18He's like, yeah, it's always a busy time on the phones, but people know when they call us now, it's
09:23real offers.
09:24You don't step to the number one pick with nonsense.
09:27Yeah, you don't call me half-stepping.
09:30You know, and the thing of it, listen, people like to make their mind up on, oh, we got to
09:37get him.
09:37Like that young man said, I'm in love with the bouncer.
09:41You don't know if he's going to be great or not, but I'm in love with the team getting better.
09:45Totally.
09:46And becoming a contender.
09:47And if that means not taking him and getting more assets, I'm with that.
09:52And becoming a perennial contender.
09:54You know what?
09:54OKC lost in the Western Conference Finals.
09:56They're damn sure a title threat next year.
09:59Taking your calls next, it's B. Mitch and Finley.
