00:00A former Chief Constable of Merseyside Police and a Detective Chief Inspector have been named in the King's Birthday Honours.
00:07Former Merseyside Police Chief Constable Serena Kennedy has been awarded a Damehood for services to policing.
00:14It follows a career spanning 32 years, which began as a constable with Greater Manchester Police in 1993,
00:21before she later served with Cheshire Constabulary for joining Merseyside Police in 2017.
00:26In April 2021, she became the first female Chief Constable in the history of Merseyside Police.
00:32She's previously received the King's Police Medal in the 2023 Birthday Honours.
00:37During her time leading the force, Merseyside Police responded to a number of major incidents,
00:42including the Liverpool Women's Hospital bombing, the COVID pandemic, high-profile criminal investigations
00:48and the events surrounding the Southport murders and subsequent disorder.
00:52Detective Chief Inspector Jason Pye has been awarded the King's Police Medal.
00:57He joined Merseyside Police in January 2003 and rose through the ranks to become a senior detective.
01:02In July 2024, he was appointed to lead the investigation into the murders of Alistair Silva Aguirre,
01:09B.B. King and Elsie Dotstankham in Southport.
01:12Merseyside Police Chief Constable Rob Carden said Jason Pye led the inquiry with professionalism,
01:18humanity and determination while working with the Crown Prosecution Service and a range of partner organisations
01:24to build what he described as a comprehensive evidential picture.
