00:00All right, little background. Sorsby planning to enter the NFL supplemental draft. 46 players have been selected all time. Seven
00:09pro bowlers, one Hall of Famer, Chris Carter. The most recent success story, I put success in air quotes, made
00:18a pro bowl was Josh Gordon in 2012. As far as quarterbacks go, six QBs all time have been selected
00:24in the supplemental draft. All but one has required a first round pick.
00:30Terrell Pryor went for a third in 2011. He's the most recent. All the other ones were 1992 and earlier.
00:39There's a lot to sort out here with Sorsby. People are going to wonder about it from a lion standpoint.
00:43But John, where is your head at?
00:44So there is still a question that hasn't been answered. I don't believe it's been answered because gambling regulators in
00:56both Indiana and Ohio are investigating his bets.
01:01Because he placed some of these bets before he was of legal age to do it in Indiana. He also
01:08did this under assumed names. Like there is a legal battle that he could also be facing as to whether
01:17or not he's even a free individual or not.
01:20And I don't believe that either the Indiana Commission or the Ohio Commission has come out with their final findings.
01:28That's a very good question. I mean, look, you don't get to the supplemental draft unless there's something wrong.
01:34Correct.
01:35So he is damaged goods, but that doesn't mean teams wouldn't put in claims for him.
01:41Right.
01:41And the way it works is you give up next year's equivalent pick.
01:45Right.
01:46You basically bid on Brandon Sorsby.
01:48Yes.
01:49And if, let's just say, you're the Kansas City Chiefs and you're like, well, we want to have a hand
01:56in the game, but we'll throw in a seventh round pick.
02:00Just to see.
02:01And if no one else puts in any bid, then they win the sweepstakes for Brandon Sorsby.
02:07And they give up next year's seventh round pick.
02:10So that's just an example.
02:11If you are the Jets, would you be willing to gamble next year's second or third?
02:19Or if you're the Arizona Cardinals, maybe next year's second or third on Brendan Sorsby to see if it plays
02:27out and he can actually play.
02:29Well, so you answer this.
02:30Where would he have gone if he was in this last draft?
02:33I think he would have gone, he would have been the next quarterback taken after Oakland took Mendoza.
02:43I think he would have been the second quarterback taken.
02:47And so there's no question that he has NFL talent.
02:54And part of what makes him intriguing is the fact that last year, I think his completion percentage could have
03:02been a little bit better, but he also paired what he was doing.
03:05It was 22 touchdowns, five interceptions.
03:07So he did a decent job of protecting the ball, but it's over 600 yards rushing as well.
03:14Athletic.
03:15Hey, Detroit fans, you could check that box.
03:19You could have a mobile quarterback, not named Hendon Hooker or Teddy Bridgewater, on the roster.
03:26You said he would have been the first QB taken after Mendoza.
03:29Ty Simpson went 13th.
03:30So you think he would have been a first round.
03:32He would have been a Ram if the Rams were still going to take a quarterback.
03:36I think he would have been that guy.
03:38So then if he's in the supplemental draft, what bid would you put in if you were the Lions?
03:43There'll be multiple teams, I think, that put in a second.
03:45I don't think anybody will put in a first.
03:46So if I'm the Lions, would you be willing to gamble your second round pick next year?
03:54Yeah, sure.
03:54Pick 64?
03:57Hopefully.
03:59Um, on your future franchise quarterback.
04:03They already took, they spent a third on Hendon Hooker.
04:06And I think most people would agree that Brendan Sorsby is a better NFL prospect than Hendon Hooker.
04:13And if he would have gone in the first round, why wouldn't you put in a second round?
04:18I think it's important.
04:20Teams aren't going to put a first.
04:21Like a team like the Jets isn't going to want to give up what could be a top five pick
04:25in this draft to get him.
04:26But the second round pick for teams like the Cardinals and the Jets makes sense.
04:30So the Lions probably aren't beating them.
04:32But the only chance you'd have is to put a second round in and hope those teams go third.
04:37So the question I have, because I do believe the Jets have two first round picks.
04:41Okay.
04:42Could they put in their later first round pick?
04:45See, this is outside my depth.
04:47Yeah, this is where everything, everything's going to get weird with this whole Brendan Sorsby thing.
04:51I think a wild card team, and because he takes risks, are the Eagles.
04:57You know, this is a big year for Jalen Hurts.
05:01Yeah.
05:01So really, he has regressed, you know, some.
05:04And without A.J. Brown.
05:06And he did it with Wentz when he took Hurts.
05:10He would dangle a second round pick out there if that's the highest bidder.
05:14Well, let's make this, let's go to the extreme.
05:17Why not a first?
05:18If you think you're chasing a Super Bowl and John thinks he would have gone 13th in this year's draft,
05:23would you give up pick 31, 32 in next year's draft to get a player who would have gone 13th
05:28in this year's draft?
05:29Look, this is very fresh.
05:30It's the way you jump the Jets and the cards is you put a first in.
05:33Right.
05:34I do think, yeah, a team lurking that's down that could potentially need a quarterback sooner than you think, you
05:39know,
05:40would be willing to do that.
05:41I just, I feel with this story, nobody will use a first.
05:46I think the difference, so every single quarterback taking a supplemental draft except Terrell Pryor were all first round supplemental
05:53picks in the history.
05:54Now, you got to go back quite a ways before that.
05:56I think teams in the NFL value capital more now than ever.
06:01And if, say, you're the Jets and you might have a top five pick, or if you're Arizona and you
06:09think you might have a top five pick,
06:10where would you put Brendan Soresby up against Dante Moore, Arch Manning?
06:17I mean, you start getting down the list, Julian Sayan, Laura Sellis, CJ Carr, Josh Hoover at Indiana.
06:23We do this all the time, but it does look like a good class on paper.
06:26So I don't think you're looking to give up a first, a high first for Soresby.
06:30Plus, there's, yeah, the other thing is we don't know Soresby's legal dealings.
06:36Yeah.
06:36So that's the other reason.
06:37If this was a clean prospect, he would have been in this.
06:40And here's another question that I don't have the answer to.
06:43I'm just going to throw it out, is if you take him in the supplemental draft, and let's just say
06:48the Lions give up a second.
06:51They are the winner of the Brendan Soresby sweepstakes.
06:55If he ends up having legal issues, do you get that pick back?
07:00If he is, let's just say he is unable to play or be a part of your franchise, do you
07:05get that pick back?
07:06That's, again, I don't know the answer to that question, but all of these teams will know exactly what that
07:12is.
07:12Text question.
07:14NFL suspended Terrell prior to start his NFL career.
07:17Soresby's issue is far worse.
07:18Could the NFL suspend him, Jesse, and Warren?
07:20And another says no one will take him because Goodell will suspend him immediately.
07:25Soresby is off for the year.
07:28So pro football talk last night, Florio wrote a story.
07:31His lawyers are already working on trying to ensure the NFL won't hand out punishment.
07:36That doesn't mean they're not going to.
07:38What would be the jurisdiction?
07:39He wasn't an NFL player.
07:41He didn't violate NFL rules.
07:42What would be the jurisdiction?
07:43They did it to Terrell Pryor.
07:44Right.
07:45But I'm asking, what would be their argument?
07:48That we did it before so we can do it again?
07:50They don't actually have, like he's not a member of the National Football League.
07:54He didn't, depending on how his legal case goes, if he doesn't have any legal punishment.
08:00Yeah, remember, Trestle got suspended six games.
08:03But here's the thing.
08:05If it is a team like the Lions, that might make him more attractive if he's going to
08:10be suspended for a year.
08:11He's not going to play this year.
08:12Oh, yeah.
08:13You mentioned Philly.
08:14Anybody that's got a quarterback.
08:15You're rolling into next year with QB1.
08:17Most teams know who QB1 is this season.
08:19You don't really care if he sits a year.
08:21He's going to hold a clipboard either way.
08:22Right.
08:23And so if your investment in him is three years down the road, then you say, you know what?
08:30Hey, wherever you're living, we're going to send, we're going to, we'll find a way to
08:35get you a quarterback coach to continue to coach you up.
08:41He may even give you some tips on what the offense looks like and how you would call it
08:45and, and, and go through coaching him in during this suspension.
08:50And so you are taking him for what you think he will be.
08:57Yes.
08:57And you're also gambling and pun intended that he is no longer going to gamble on NFL on
09:06football games.
09:09Yeah.
09:09That's the other thing.
09:10You got to make sure that's not going to be a recurring issue because that would be
09:13catastrophic.
09:14Right.
09:15Okay.
09:15Text says, please, please bring Soresby to Detroit signed JMO.
09:21Any truth that Soresby is making bets on whether he'll be selected in the supplemental draft,
09:26John and Lake Orion.
09:27You can bet Soresby will go to Vegas, just not to play for the Raiders.
09:33Yeah.
09:33I mean, there's, there's going to be an unending amount of jokes, but if you're just looking
09:40at the Lions, what would you do?
09:41I would probably throw in a second, just say, you know, let's see what happens because we
09:47have our starting quarterback.
09:48We've got our franchise quarterback.
09:49It doesn't mean he ever has to throw a pass for, but the, the Lions are going to be good
09:56enough to not be picking in the top 10, probably top 15, maybe not even in the top 20 in
10:02the
10:02next couple of years.
10:04When are you, how we always ask this when people say, Oh, Goff needs to go.
10:11He's not mobile.
10:12Yeah.
10:13All right.
10:13How do you acquire that next franchise quarterback?
10:17If you're always picking 22, 23, 17, this past year.
10:22Now the guy didn't have the baggage, but I think the ultimate example of a team doing
10:26this, so you don't worry about hurting Goff's feelings or anything because business is business
10:32is when the rock or when the Packers took Rogers, when they had far, right?
10:37You know, if they can do that to Brett Favre, this could be done to Goff.
10:41There's just not the baggage with it.
10:43Well, Green Bay did it with Jordan Love.
10:45Yeah, true.
10:45Goff is 31, will turn 32 in October.
10:50If you add Soresby to the roster on a four-year deal, does Soresby get in at any point in
10:56the next four years?
10:59Like if Goff was 35, this makes a little more sense.
11:03Yes.
11:04But again, I'll ask the question, if you're always picking in the early 20s and maybe even
11:1132, how do you acquire that next franchise quarterback?
11:16Well, Favre played three seasons after it was 05, 06, 07.
11:21In 07, Favre got hurt, finally breaking his Ironman streak.
11:26And Rogers came into that game in Dallas and he looked the part.
11:29And at that point, they knew they were going to move on, so Favre demands out.
11:33I'm just asking how old were Rogers and Favre, because I think they were much older than 31-year-old
11:39Jared Goff.
11:40They were probably in their mid to late 30s when they started the succession plan.
11:43We also saw the Lions only take a part of Goff's contract and try and free up more cap space.
11:52They're eating some of that now so that if they decide to move on from him in years three
11:58or four or wherever it is, it's less expensive.
12:02I think the bare minimum, it's a third because of the Hendon Hooker thing.
12:06If you're willing to throw a third on a guy coming off the ACL that's half the prospect,
12:09you'd clearly give up a third to add Soresby.
12:11Second is if you want any real chance to get him.
12:14Right.
12:16248-539-9797.
12:17We'll get to Heather's News.
12:19We'll get to Two Grand Slam.
12:20That's at 725.
12:21It's 97.1.
