00:00Zika just delivered its best month ever in history.
00:05That's a pretty big deal for this company.
00:08Hello my friends, welcome to the channel, great to have you with us.
00:11This is not just another Chinese EV brand pumping out cheap cars to chase volume.
00:17They don't actually sell any cheap cars at all.
00:20This is actually a premium brand, owned by Geely, and in May delivered 34,400 vehicles.
00:27Plus, Zika, while they're really becoming well-known outside of China, I personally own
00:34a Zika 7X, I'll do a review on that very soon, some of the things might surprise you.
00:41So, sales for Zika in May this year were an all-time record of 34,400 deliveries.
00:49That is up 82% compared to the same month last year, and up 8% with April.
00:59But, even more importantly than that, Zika has now delivered 143,200 vehicles in the first
01:07five months of 2026.
01:09That means they're actually the fastest-growing EV car company in the world this year.
01:16Last year it was Xpeng, this year it's Zika.
01:19Their sales have increased by 93% this year versus last year.
01:24So, why does this even matter?
01:28Well, because Zika is not growing by discounting tiny city cars, or selling bargain basement
01:32EVs, or getting involved in price wars.
01:35According to Zika, it's higher-priced Zika 8 and Zika 9 series models, or 8X and 9X, accounted
01:44for almost half of total deliveries in May, and those vehicles cost more than US$50,000.
01:48That pushed the company's average transaction price up 52% compared with last year.
01:54I don't think I've ever seen this before, where a company almost doubles its sales in
01:59one year versus another year, whilst increasing transaction prices by 52%.
02:04If you've seen this before, let me know, but I haven't seen this before.
02:07This is very unusual.
02:09On the Electric Viking website, I'll put a link in the description below, we have more
02:13articles about electric cars and battery technology than any other website that I'm aware of in
02:18the world.
02:20So, check that out.
02:21Link is in the description.
02:24And there you'll find our videos and analysis and articles about everything going on in the
02:29EV world.
02:30Normally, you see companies like Porsche, you know, they bring out SUVs when they just used
02:34to have supercars and sports cars.
02:37Then they bring out SUVs, average transaction prices crash, but their sales go up significantly.
02:41That's normally the business model that works in terms of increasing volume.
02:45It's very unusual to see car sales go up by nearly 100%, but revenue, transaction price,
02:51I should say, increased by 52%.
02:54So, Zika is doing something very important.
02:56It is moving up market and customers are actually buying the cars.
03:00The Zika 9X large SUV has now passed 60,000 cumulative deliveries, even though it's only sold
03:08in China at this point.
03:09It's coming to other countries.
03:10That's just from China.
03:12Now, its average transaction price is 78,000 US dollars, or around 120,000 Australian dollars.
03:22You might be disappointed hearing that because I've had a lot of Australians and Americans
03:26say, oh, I'm interested in that car.
03:28And Australians are just like, well, we know it's coming.
03:30Can I, will I be able to buy it?
03:31And I'm like, well, you're aware it's not cheap.
03:34It's not a cheap car.
03:35And it shouldn't be.
03:36It's a very, very good car.
03:37So, like I said, that's not cheap.
03:40That is BMW, Mercedes, Audi, Lexus territory.
03:43But let's be honest, it is better than an equivalent BMW, Mercedes, Audi, or Lexus.
03:47Significantly better value for money.
03:49Zika says that in China's market, above roughly 74,000 US dollars, one in every three vehicles
03:56now sold is a Zika 9X.
03:59Now, that's not going to last forever, but that's an interesting stat.
04:03One in every three above 74,000 US dollars was a Zika 9X in the last couple of months.
04:09It's a pretty big statement.
04:11The Zika 8X also delivered 5,800 vehicles in May.
04:16Versions fitted with Geely's latest GASD smart driving systems are now starting deliveries.
04:21Now, that is the Achilles heel here for Zika and for Geely.
04:25I almost said Geely.
04:27Yeah, that's kind of a name, isn't it?
04:29Anyway, that's the Achilles heel.
04:30Their smart driving, their ADAS systems are not as good, obviously, as, say, for example,
04:36Xpeng's newest self-driving systems or Tesla's, etc.
04:40So they're working on that.
04:42Then there's the Zika 7X SUV.
04:44The Zika says global deliveries of the 7X have now passed 160,000.
04:50And the company says the model is leading its segment in markets such as Hong Kong, Australia,
04:56Malaysia, and Mexico.
04:57Now, I don't know if you could say it's leading in Australia.
05:00I mean, I guess you'd have to pick a certain segment because it's not the best-selling
05:06EV SUV here in Australia, but it's selling extremely well.
05:09That's true.
05:11The Zika 7X is one of the more serious electric SUVs on sale now in many countries around the
05:16world.
05:17And it has strong performance.
05:19It's got a very, very nice interior, very fast charging, but it's priced pretty well
05:25below BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, and Audi.
05:28And it's selling really well as a result.
05:31Zika also launched a refreshed version of the 009 Luxury MPV, which starts at a price of
05:39$61,000.
05:41That's around $94,000 in China.
05:44Actually, really good value for money, the 009 MPV.
05:47It's a great-looking MPV as well.
05:49It also released a fifth-anniversary edition of the Zika 001, which is a performance version
05:56of the 001, but it's priced at only $54,000, which I think is an absolute bargain.
06:01That's around $83,000 Australian dollars.
06:04Sadly, they don't sell that car, that model, outside of China.
06:09Now, yes, they do sell some versions of the Zika 001, but not that particular model.
06:14What's the bigger picture here?
06:15Chinese EV brands are no longer only competing on price.
06:20That narrative is now outdated.
06:23Beauty is attracting the mass market, clearly.
06:27Xpeng is pushing hard on autonomous driving.
06:30Li Auto is dominating extended-range family SUVs.
06:34Zika is now proving that Chinese brands can compete in the premium segment as well.
06:39This is exactly why legacy luxury brands are in a bit of trouble, or you might say a lot
06:45of trouble, because Zika is not just selling EVs.
06:49It's selling fast-charging platforms, high-end interiors, strong software, advanced driver
06:54assistance, big batteries, big batteries, particularly when you look at the size of the batteries
06:58in their plug-in hybrids, which are huge, and premium design, often for less money than
07:03the old luxury brands.
07:06And unlike many legacy automakers, Zika is growing very fast.
07:10Have a look at the sales for those luxury car brands from Germany this year.
07:15The big question now is whether Zika can keep this momentum going outside China.
07:19It needs to keep the momentum outside of China, because in China, the Chinese car market this
07:24year is shrinking quickly.
07:26Consumer sentiment in China is very, very negative right now.
07:30If it can keep the ball rolling outside of China, then brands like Volvo, Audi, BMW, Mercedes
07:36might have a very serious problem on their hands.
07:39I think they will.
07:41Because Zika is not just another Chinese EV startup.
07:44It is becoming one of the strongest premium EV brands outside of China as well, which is
07:50probably a big surprise to a lot of people who didn't even know about this brand only a
07:54couple of years ago.
07:55So, May's delivery numbers prove it.
07:59Let me know your thoughts.
