00:00The IEA or the International Energy Agency estimates electric vehicle sales including
00:06EVs and plug-in hybrids will hit 23 million this year. Some experts say 24 million and account for
00:1528 to 30 percent of all cars sold with most of those being electric around 20 percent.
00:24In a report released this week the IEA used recent trends and sales data from the first quarter of
00:30this year and forecast that EV sales will rise from 20 million last year to 23 million this year.
00:38The truth is if you actually look at the forecast data the numbers are pretty damn impressive
00:42particularly considering the fact that China's car market has shrunk significantly this year
00:47because of subdued well basically people are concerned about the economy right now in China.
00:56In the IEA report it says 3.9 million EVs were sold in the first three months of 2026
01:03down eight percent from the same time last year and they say this is basically only because of
01:10falling sales in China which is the by far the world's largest EV market. But in terms of percentages
01:16that's an entirely different thing. There has been a surge in EV sales with 30 countries breaking EV
01:23sales records in the first three months of this year and the only reason we can't say more than 30
01:27is because we don't have sales data from a lot of the other countries. This rise was partly driven by
01:32higher fuel prices but also because of cheaper vehicles and better EVs as well. In fact if you look at
01:38China EV sales have hit a record market percentage of 62 percent over the past two months. So even though
01:45we're seeing records sales are down simply because the overall car market is seeing less vehicles sold
01:51this year. Should the IEA's prediction be accurate then EVs will continue to no longer be a fad. I mean
01:59a lot of people actually think that EVs are a fad and they're just going to disappear. On the Electric
02:03Viking
02:03website I'll put a link in the description below. We have more articles about electric cars and battery
02:09technology than any other website that I'm aware of in the world. So check that out. Link is in the
02:16description and there you'll find our videos and analysis and articles about everything going on
02:21in the EV world. If they do hit nearly possibly 30 percent of all sales this year then I'm pretty
02:29sure you can say that that fad is not going away anytime soon. In fact I think the fad will
02:35be
02:35well and truly up and well and well and truly done by 2030 because by then I believe personally that
02:41diesel purely diesel and purely petrol powered cars will be extinct. I don't think anyone's going to be
02:48buying them by 2030. Thanks to its sales tax exemption and other benefits Norway is of course
02:55well not just other benefits but also because people want them people want EVs in Norway is the world
03:01leader. 99 percent of all cars sold in fact 98.8 percent in Norway for the last two months were
03:07fully electric vehicles. Plug-in hybrids basically no one wanted them they were less than like 1.5 percent
03:13market share and everything else was dead diesel nothing petrol nothing. So looking at this chart you
03:19can see here sales in places like Nepal 10 percent right and now well over 75 percent so 10 percent
03:27back
03:28in 2022 so only a few years ago no I mean Nepal has skyrocketed in terms of their EV adoption
03:33insane
03:33Singapore the same. Singapore is now at 63 percent. Iceland 62 percent and like I said China before
03:40just hit 62 percent. Vietnam 41 percent. United Kingdom 35 percent. Switzerland 34 percent. Massive numbers
03:49here even Uruguay 28 percent. European Union 27 percent. We saw Colombia has now hit 30 percent this year
03:55and these numbers um will only continue to grow this year as we see more and more affordable cars
04:01hit a lot of these regions. Cheap EV imports and not just cheap but also actually very good cars coming
04:07from China have helped propel Nepal into the number two position worldwide in terms of EV adoption as a
04:14percentage of sales. Singapore and Vietnam are third and sixth which is amazing. They saw their EV shares
04:22rise significantly because partly partly because of you reduced annual road taxes but also because
04:28people there recognize the fact that they can save a lot of money by buying an EV. Vietnamese brand
04:33Vinfast has nearly all the local EV market not a lot of but most of it in Vietnam and its
04:41VF3 and VF5
04:42are the two most popular cars for sale in Vietnam right now. Remarkably China is only fifth in EV market
04:49share but of course I mean China is by far the biggest car market in the world. There's normally
04:54around 32 million cars sold there per year and they account for 60 percent of global EV sales as a
05:00result. Considering they account for about 40 percent of global car sales it makes sense that account for
05:0660 percent of EV sales. Now of course I'm sure you know this you've been watching the channel for a
05:11while around 80 percent of all EV battery sales probably a bit more than that probably about 82 to 84
05:16percent come from China. So a lot of people say to me Sam can I buy an EV that's not
05:22made in China? I
05:23say yeah you can but there's going to be stuff in it from China. There's really not much you can
05:27do to
05:27avoid that. Now yeah there's a couple of EVs you can buy with battery sales that are made in Europe
05:31but not that many and they're kind of out of the price range of most ordinary humans. Despite having
05:37large car manufacturing operations Thailand and Indonesia saw EV sales grow as a result of just
05:45opening their markets up. They just said yeah you can bring them in and straight away we saw EV sales
05:50increase significantly. It's what we're going to see in Canada this year when a lot of these Chinese
05:54vehicles hit Canadian shores. Now the U.S. unfortunately has seen its sales not really going
06:00yet go anywhere. They are really kind of going down a bit as a result partially of the end of
06:06the
06:06EV subsidies. Japan, Japan sales in Japan are terrible. Less than three percent of all cars sold in
06:13Japan are electric and I guess that makes sense considering you know you've got Japanese brands
06:19Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Toyota and none of those guys really want to sell a lot of EVs so yeah I
06:27mean
06:27as a result EV sales in Japan are pretty abysmal. Globally though things are very different to Japan
06:34fortunately and we're going to see by the end of this year very very good chance by the end of
06:40this year
06:40China's EV market will accelerate significantly but the biggest takeaway we're going to see is this
06:46and that is by the end of this year the percentage of cars sold worldwide will be the highest
06:52number it has ever been in history and that won't stop this year. It'll grow next year and the year
06:59after that so my suggestion is this trigger someone who hates EVs trigger someone who thinks they're a
07:06fad share this video with them anyway guys do it just for a laugh but also do it because you
07:11never
07:11know sometimes when these people who just hate electric cars sometimes when they just go for one
07:16little test drive they are sold and they're like what was I thinking what was I thinking I don't know
07:23what they're thinking but you know get them in an EV get one of your friends in one of the
07:26an EV u-drive that often helps really change people's minds. Thanks for watching.
