00:00China just proved to the world that tariffs, bans and political pressure are not slowing down its
00:06electric vehicle industry, not even close. In April 2026, China exported 278,000 electric
00:15vehicles. That is a 40% increase year on year, and it pushed total Chinese EV exports for 2026
00:24so far to 894,000. We're only four months into the year. Hello, my friends. Welcome to the channel.
00:34Great to have you with us. You guys know I own two different Chinese electric cars. Yeah, I mean,
00:39I understand in some countries you can't buy them, but most places don't have bans on Chinese EVs.
00:46So therefore, you know, the whole world isn't just America. We're seeing massive increases in sales
00:53in many countries, including some really unusual places like, for example, Colombia. Let's break
01:02down exactly where these vehicles are going though, because the numbers are genuinely staggering.
01:06Asia is the biggest buyer, taking 110,600 Chinese EVs in April alone. Places like Thailand,
01:16Chinese EVs are going crazy. Europe came in second at 83,800. Here's the kicker. Europe is a 36%
01:25jump. Despite the European Union imposing tariffs of an average of 35%, if you include the 10% additional
01:34tariff that everyone has to pay, average tariffs of 35% on EVs. Brussels has openly stated that Chinese
01:43imports are hollowing out Europe's manufacturing base, yet European consumers are still buying them
01:49in massive numbers. That tells you everything you need to know about the price competitiveness of
01:55Chinese EVs in spite of these huge tariffs. On the Electric Viking website, I'll put a link in the
02:01description below, we have more articles about electric cars and battery technology than any other
02:06website that I'm aware of in the world. So check that out. Link is in the description. And there you'll
02:13find
02:13our videos and analysis and articles about everything going on in the EV world. Latin America imported 53,000
02:21vehicles. Latin America 53,000 in a single month. Oceania, that includes us here in Australia, imported
02:3022,700. And North America, thanks to the US slapping a 100% tariff on Chinese EVs, was just 4
02:39,422.
02:40That's going to change soon though, because Canada is part of North America. Let's talk about the
02:45standout performer though, Brazil. Imports of Chinese EVs into Brazil surged 221% to 38,000 vehicles in a
02:57single month. That's 221%. That's crazy. That's an extraordinary number. South Korea, Germany and
03:06Australia also saw huge jumps between 100% to 190% growth. Australia is clearly embracing affordable
03:15Chinese electric cars at a rapid pace, but so are, so is Brazil, so is Germany, so is South Korea.
03:23Zooming out, China accounted for 75% of the 22 million EVs produced globally in 2025, according to
03:32the International Energy Agency's report. Outside of Europe and the United States, Chinese models
03:38accounted for 55% of EV sales last year. That is more than half of the entire non-Western EV
03:48market
03:48dominated by one country. Chinese EV exports hit a record 2.5 million vehicles in 2025,
03:56double the figure from the year before. Now though, in 2026, they're on track to potentially
04:02double their export numbers from last year again. It's kind of scary if you're a legacy automaker.
04:10So the IEA estimates global EV sales will hit 23 million units in 2026, representing around 30%
04:19of all new car sales worldwide. Global EV sales already topped 20 million in 2025, accounting for
04:27about a quarter, or around 25%, of all auto sales. So the transition is not just coming, it's not a
04:35fad,
04:36it's actually here. What's fascinating though, is who's driving that growth. BYD, now the world's
04:42largest EV seller, is targeting exports of 1.3 million vehicles this year alone, up 25% from last
04:52year. Geely though is chasing overseas sales growth of more than 50%. Cherry, its overseas growth has been
04:59rapid. China's manufacturers invested more in foreign supply chains than domestic ones for the
05:06first time in 2025. These companies are planting flags all over the world. The US and Europe can build
05:15walls, but the rest of the world is wide open. And China is filling that space in countries all over
05:23the planet. I think a little faster than people anticipated, or maybe a lot faster. The question
05:29now is whether Western automakers can respond in time, because China is not waiting. China is particularly
05:39isn't waiting because sales in its own country are down this year, particularly the auto market in China
05:45has shrunk significantly. Part of that is because of a contraction in the overall economic situation in
05:55China. So automakers in China are focusing on countries outside of China in a much greater
06:03capacity than they previously had. And they're accelerating their sales as quickly as they possibly
06:08can. Let me know what your thoughts are in the comments. Thanks for watching. Bye-bye.
