00:00Welcome back guys, and oh boy do we have another set of great episodes to review, with one of them
00:07being an episode that always stuck with me as a kid, and the other introducing a fan favorite with peak
00:14comedy.
00:14I hope you all are ready, so let's get into it.
00:18We begin with Jack walking in a windy field, but he starts to hear a voice in his head telling
00:23him to come to it.
00:24So he follows it where it is directing him, as he comes across a dead and ravaged land with the
00:30voice continuing to call him.
00:32He then comes across a volcanic mountain with the voice getting even louder, with him then having to go through
00:40a gauntlet of traps that takes up like a third of the episode.
00:44But he eventually comes to the final test where a monster forms out of lava and prepares for battle.
00:50Jack of course asks why it would lure so many warriors to their end, and it simply says that it
00:57lives for battle.
00:58Jack gets a hit on it, with it sounding relieved that it has finally found a worthy warrior.
01:04But Jack seeing its mindless enjoyment for battle then refuses to fight him because there is no honor in mindless
01:11violence.
01:11But the creature then proclaims that he must fight, and that it cannot strike a defenseless opponent, it's not in
01:20its warrior's code.
01:21Jack asks him for his reasoning to fight, and he explains that he was once a man, and that he
01:28recorded his previous life on stone to make sure he wouldn't forget it after thousands of years.
01:34We get thrust into an artistic backstory of the man, who was once a king of his people.
01:39But one day, the sun was blotted out by darkness, with it forming into Aku, who began destroying his kingdom.
01:47He of course tried to fight back, but he could not do anything but hope for a warrior's death, which
01:53Aku then denied him.
01:55Encasing him in a gem, making him watch as Aku destroyed the rest of his kingdom.
02:00After fully destroying his home, Aku came back to him, and proceeded to bury him inside of a mountain so
02:07he could be tormented by the memories of all of this for all eternity.
02:12But the warrior somehow was able to manifest powers to control stone, so he created all of these tests to
02:19make sure only true warriors could get to him, with Jack being the first to ever make it.
02:24So now, his only wish is to die a warrior's death, so he can ascend to Valhalla, and be at
02:31peace.
02:32Hearing all of this, Jack finally agrees to give him the battle he desires.
02:37And man do they have a rough fight, with Jack even getting downed for a moment.
02:42But as the fight goes on, Jack finally gets the finishing glow on him, with him joyously proclaiming that Aku's
02:48curse is broken.
02:50And man do I love this scene.
02:53A cursed monster! Your spell is broken!
03:09I am free!
03:13He then reverts to his original human form, and quickly ages.
03:17With the Valkyries coming down to ascend him to Valhalla, and him smiling on the way up.
03:23With the episode ending, with Jack finishing his story he wrote on the stone, saying he was finally freed, and
03:31Jack walking off to his next adventure, with the warrior smiling down at him with the rest of the Norse
03:36gods.
03:37Now, there were only two voice actors in this episode, with the only new one being the warrior, who is
03:43voiced by Richard McGonagall, who has also played General Grievous from the 2D Star Wars series, Bato from Avatar The
03:51Last Airbender, and Forearms from Ben Tanton.
03:54Now, the warrior himself was a great character, with his heartbreaking backstory of not having the honor to fight and
04:02die for his people.
04:04And Aku, seeing that he wanted to die so he could be put out of his misery, decided to make
04:10sure he could never die, torturing him for all time.
04:13I'm guessing, since the gem he was trapped in was magical, he was able to eventually awaken his magical abilities,
04:21so he could control Earth and develop a mind communication to learn what seemed like worthy warriors.
04:28And surprisingly, nobody got to him until Jack, which I can't imagine the satisfaction he finally got when he was
04:36finally beaten by him.
04:38I enjoyed his character, and I liked how the writer slowly peeled back the layers of the warrior, with us
04:45thinking that he was just a monster in the beginning.
04:47But as we go, they reveal more and more of his humanity, with us eventually wanting him to finally be
04:54set free.
04:55Then Jack, this episode, just happened to stumble across this adventure, and I can see why nobody has gotten to
05:03the warrior before, because, man, were there a lot of traps and obstacles.
05:07We also got to see his honor again, not wanting to indulge what he thought, at the time, was a
05:13mindless beast wanting battle.
05:16And after hearing his story, I'm sure Jack could relate to it, since he too saw his lands be destroyed
05:22by Aku, with him and the warrior just wanting their journeys to finally end, completing their life's mission.
05:29And as we saw at the end, Jack was extremely happy he could help a fellow warrior on his final
05:35journey to peace.
05:37Alright, now we get to what I am assuming is going to be everyone's fan-favorite episode.
05:43We start with the usual, Jack walking through an area until he comes upon a bridge he has to cross.
05:49And this bridge is so extremely long, that Jack can't even see the other side, since it just disappears into
05:57the fog.
05:58And while he is starting to cross it, a plank of the bridge breaks off, showing us how dangerous this
06:04is probably going to be.
06:05And I am sure people who had a fear of heights hate this episode.
06:10Which includes me, but for some reason, this episode never triggered my fear.
06:15It's taking so long for Jack to cross the bridge, that he even has to just sleep on it, with
06:21the planks just rotting under him.
06:23But he is luckily able to catch himself before falling.
06:27But after this, we come to the point in the episode that we have all been waiting for.
06:32Jack hears the bagpipes in the distance coming towards him, and I don't know if he covers his ears because
06:38they are too loud, or if he just doesn't like the sound.
06:41I, for one, love the sound of the bagpipes, and enjoyed what the Scotsman was playing.
06:47Jack asks him if he is close to the other side, but he just says that he has been walking
06:53for a few days now.
06:54Jack asks him to stand aside, but he doesn't want to, in fear of he could fall off the bridge
07:01and just tells Jack to back up, which is absurd in this kind of situation.
07:06Even calling Jack rude, which is an insane thing to call Jack.
07:10Jack then suggests that he is going to hang off the side of the planks so the Scotsman can cross,
07:16but he denies this because he doesn't want Jack looking up his kilt.
07:20And getting fed up with this, he tells Jack that they will fight to the death to see who will
07:25cross the bridge.
07:26And man, the insults he brings out are insane, my goodness.
07:31Oh, that's some tough talk coming from a man who wears a basket on his head.
07:37I carry me haggis in a basket.
07:40You might even make me shiver if you weren't dressed in a nightgown.
07:43You look like my nanny.
07:45He then shows him his sword, bragging that it's bigger, and continues to roast him.
07:51What do you think of that, Mr. Pajama-Wedding?
07:54Basket-faced sleeper-wielding?
07:56Clyde-Bleet-Backle?
07:58Gather-up-blatin'-maw-bleether-in'-gomeral?
08:01Jesse-oaf-lookin' stoner?
08:03Lift-plukishan milk-drinkin'?
08:06Soy-face-show-pittin' in-mouth?
08:09Snivelin' worm-eyed hootin' block?
08:12Vile-stoochie-cully-brick-tatty?
08:14Calling him an oaf, a stoner, and a soy boy.
08:18My god, and this was back in the early 2000s.
08:23So he takes the first swing, cutting Jack's hat off, but Jack gets him back by stabbing his back pipes.
08:36You've done it now.
08:37They begin the fight with Jack dodging his hits, and the Scotsman blocking his, with it ending up just in
08:45a flurry of blows between the two.
08:47And oh my goodness, it may be simple animation, but with the speed and sound effects they put in, just
08:54does something to my monkey brain, making this fight just look awesome.
09:00Jack then tries to break his sword, but it doesn't work, since his sword is magical as well.
09:05They basically battle for an entire day, with us coming back the next morning, with them both exhausted, and the
09:12Scotsman telling him to give up, but Jack just fires back at him.
09:16He can barely hold your sword!
09:19Then come get me.
09:20What?
09:21As they rest, some hillbilly bounty hunters corner them on the bridge, and as they argue, they handcuff both of
09:28them to each other, with them of course not working that well together.
09:32So Jack just breaks the plank under them to drop below, with it luckily being a swamp underneath, where we
09:40get another great joke.
09:42And as they are trying to escape the bounty hunters, they accidentally walk into their camp, forcing them to fight.
09:48But they realize that if they stay cuffed together, they can't really do much, so they use a giant cannon
09:55the bounty hunters are using to break their cuffs, and just lay waste to all of them.
10:01With them finally taking care of all of them, they both just have a good laugh together, and continue to
10:07compete for who will buy the other a drink, ending the episode.
10:11With this episode, there was really only one voice actor being the Scotsman, who was played by John DiMaggio, who
10:19has also played Bender from Futurama, Draken from Kin Possible, General Grievous from the Star Wars The Clone Wars, and
10:27Jake the Dog from Adventure Time.
10:29The Scotsman was an extremely entertaining character that I loved as a kid, and now as an adult as well.
10:36The way he talks, the insults he belches out, and just how Scottish he is.
10:42I think he was my first experience being exposed to Scottish culture, and at least from what I know, he
10:50is a pretty good example.
10:52If any of you want to explain on how he is or isn't a good example, please say so down
10:58below.
10:58Now to his character, he is definitely full of himself with how much he gloats and looks down on Jack
11:06for his appearance, but he could actually back up his boasts with him having a magical sword, which is probably
11:14why Aku wants him dead, since he wants a monopoly on magic, and he doesn't know if the Scotsman's sword
11:20can hurt him or not.
11:21Along with his sheer swordsman skills, being able to match evenly with Jack, and fighting for a day straight with
11:28him.
11:29And then I like the detail of him having a gun leg, which he does finally use at the end
11:33of the episode, which was cool.
11:36Man, I just love his character, and don't worry guys, we are going to have a good amount more of
11:41him in the future.
11:42Then Jack this episode continues to be a great role model for kids watching, with how polite he was with
11:50the Scotsman.
11:50Even willing to risk himself falling off to make him more comfortable so he could pass by.
11:57But we see Jack is not above some pettiness when he destroyed the Scotsman's backpipes and taunting him while they
12:04were on the bridge.
12:05This episode was probably the episode that gives me the most nostalgia out of all the episodes of the series,
12:12since this is one me and my dad would laugh our asses off about.
12:17With him loving the Scotsman whenever he showed up, they're just real happy and warm memories for me.
12:25I hope you all enjoyed, and if you did, don't forget to like the video and subscribe if you want
12:31to see more Samurai Jack content from me.
12:33You can also check out the playlist for the series for my past episode reviews as well.
12:38But now, with all that out of the way, I hope you all enjoyed, because I know I did going
12:44down memory lane with this one.
12:46So I will see you guys later.
12:48Bye guys!
12:49Bye guys!
