00:01Thank you, Kelly. Good morning. It's finally here. The waiting is over. 10,218 days. 10,218
00:13long days, many of which were spent wondering if this would ever happen again. 10,218 days
00:22since the Tartan army trooped out of San Etienne's Stade, Geoffrey Guichard, heads bowed, beaten and out of the World
00:31Cup.
00:32Many who bore witness to that 3-0 pounding by the Moroccans were distraught and left staring into the hollow
00:38abyss of yet another early World Cup exit.
00:42But not many of those who bore witness on that muggy June evening in 98 in eastern central France would
00:50have believed you
00:51if you had told them that 10,218 days and 28 summers would come and go
00:58before they would grace us with their presence at the biggest tournament of them all again.
01:04Scotland's return comes after 28 years.
01:07Their opening Group C opponents, Haiti, are back after a 52-year interlude.
01:12A troubled nation, but proud team.
01:15Can they bring some much-needed light to a country beset by darkness and tragedy?
01:22A tournament debut as well here for the Boston Stadium in Foxborough in Massachusetts, 22 miles southwest of the city.
01:31The home of the New England Patriots.
01:33The place for the greatest quarterback to pick up in American football.
01:37Tom Brady thrilled on so many occasions.
01:40For the playing of the national anthem of Haiti.
02:03For the playing of the national anthem of Haiti.
02:36Sebastian Menier, the Haiti manager hoping to make an impact.
02:40on this tournament
02:42but just listen
02:44to this
03:17and I'll see you next time
04:04I think they may well have heard that over the border in Canada.
04:07They may well have heard it back home in Caledonia.
04:13What a moment for Andrew Robertson and his teammates, the day has finally arrived.
04:25This area of Massachusetts made World Cup headlines in 1994, the stadium built on the
04:30site of the former ground which was the scene of the majestic Diego Maradona's infamous
04:35goal celebration against Greece in 1994 with his international career ending in disgrace
04:41just days later.
04:45There's history to be made.
04:47And following the draw between the Brazilians and the Moroccans, earlier on, it gives these
04:55two the opportunity to go to the summit of Group C ahead of those match day two fixtures.
05:09And a quite remarkable number of Scotland supporters have come across the pond for this.
05:27The Frenchman Sebastian Minier has never actually set foot on Haiti.
05:33The on-field officials at Algeria in Fortirol, Mustafa Gorbal is in the middle.
05:39It's his second World Cup finals having taken charge of two group games in Qatar.
05:46He needed a police escort when leaving a game earlier this season in the African Champions League.
05:51He was attacked by Bottles when leaving the pitch.
05:55Saudi Arabia's Abdullah Al-Shahiri is on VAR.
06:06Well, Minier looking, as I said, to make an impact here.
06:12He sends out the same 11 that started last weekend's friendly defeat to Peru.
06:16Big hitters, Belgar of Wolves and Isidore of Sunderland have improved this team tenfold.
06:22Goalkeeper Johnny Placid in goal is the most experienced player in the squad, but he is a bit accident-prone.
06:28Six of their starters were born in Haiti, the rest in France.
06:33They won six of their ten qualifiers as they returned to the World Cup for the first time since 74.
06:40John McGinn preferred to Ryan Christie and the only change from last weekend's fine win over Bolivia in New Jersey.
06:47Scott McKenna misses out with a calf problem, though the understanding is he will return to training on Monday ahead
06:53of Morocco back here on Friday.
06:55Jack Henry keeps his place with McKenna out, though he did start all three at the Euros two years ago
07:01in Germany.
07:02The front two of Adams and Shanklin showed promise last Saturday, scoring three of their four goals.
07:08And of course, the talismanic figure of Scott McTominay is in the side, having recovered from a stomach bug.
07:17Steve Clarke, Scotland's most successful head coach, as he leads the team into a third major tournament under his tenure.
07:33We are just about ready to go. One last word for the Haitians before bedlam ensues.
07:43And while Scotland will see this as the fixture they are most likely to emerge with three points from, you
07:50can bet Haiti are thinking the same thing.
07:55A very impressive first half in particular between the other two in this group, which was played in New York,
08:04New Jersey earlier.
08:09A seminal moment.
08:13And it's time to strap yourselves in wherever you may be.
08:26Just being made to wait a few seconds more, they've waited 28 years in fairness.
08:41Lawrence Shanklin, many felt should have started Scotland games before now, gets the nod tonight.
08:50As you can wait for a lifetime, Scotland are back in the big time.
08:56A sequence of qualifying failure which began with their botched bid to get to Japan and South Korea is officially
09:02over.
09:04Immediately they'll face with what is surely a non-negotiable if this team is to realise the dream of creating
09:09more history
09:11and reaching major tournament knockouts for the first time.
09:15As I said, a third major finals for Steve Clarke.
09:19But as the man himself admits, they haven't really turned up at the party up to press.
09:23Is it his time? Is it their time, James McFadden?
09:27Well, it has to be. There's been talk of, you know, the mistakes they've made in the past at the
09:30major tournaments.
09:32And now it's up to the players to go and show that they've learned from it.
09:35I think they have. I think the preparation's been outstanding coming into the game.
09:39You know, apart from the huge blow, obviously, losing Billy Gilmour.
09:43But I think that in terms of performances and the balance to the squad and the team,
09:48Scotland are in a really good place to go and really show how good they can be on this stage.
09:53But I have to say, many people are starting to realise hated a good side, they're dangerous.
09:58They will be a tough proposition for Scotland and Scotland will have to be at their best to win the
10:03game.
10:09Scotland in for cap number 21 when he took his international goals tally from four to seven.
10:17And those wins over Curacao and Bolivia.
10:21And the win last week in Harrison, whilst Bolivia were far from at it that afternoon.
10:29Scotland beat a team that defeated Brazil and Colombia in the South American qualifiers.
10:35And it's never to be sniffed at.
10:43Here's Hendry.
10:45He plays his football in Saudi Arabia with Al Etifak and it looks as though he may well be staying
10:50there.
10:52Did appear like he was gonna be moving during the summer window.
11:07Not an ideal kickoff time for those back home, James, but here the blistering heat is gone with the dusk.
11:13Yeah, but still, amazing conditions for the players, but certainly better than earlier.
11:18There's Adams, no foul.
11:22Adams gets it to Robertson.
11:24And out towards Ganondote, who's such a huge figure in the Scotland side.
11:32He makes a big difference as you can see here.
11:35There's a perfect goal and Placid flops down onto it.
11:39Yeah, comfortable for Placid. A little glimpse from Ganondote.
11:42Used to see him going down the right-hand side onto that right foot.
11:45It cuts inside, great feet.
11:48The team effort potentially going wide anyway.
11:52Placid gets a hold of it.
11:54Nice positive start for Ben Ganondote.
11:57And goes against Franci Piero.
11:59He plays this football in Turkey.
12:03And Shikur rises far.
12:18Henry then for Robertson.
12:21Here's McGinn.
12:22First real feel of the ball.
12:23It's opened up nicely here.
12:24It is Shankland.
12:27And you see what he's trying to do.
12:29And arch that towards that far corner.
12:31That's outstanding.
12:32Andy Roethlsen first time sees the runner John McGinn.
12:35He gets his head up.
12:36Little reverse into the feet of Shankland.
12:38And he just wants out his feet.
12:39He's trying to bend into that far corner.
12:41But it's blocked.
12:42He's really good play from Scotland.
12:46And there's Piero.
12:49He's in a position he doesn't really want to be in there.
12:51But he gets the free kick.
12:59It's not the position he wants to be in.
13:01But it's a scenario.
13:02Hayter looking for it.
13:03Trying to get a hold of the ball.
13:05You see the runners going beyond him.
13:13Scotland's last World Cup point and goal was in the 1-1 draw against Norway in Bordeaux.
13:18Craig Burley on the 16th of June 1998.
13:21The last World Cup win.
13:23It was eight years before that when they beat Sweden 2-1 in Genoa.
13:29McCall and Johnston scored the goals in the Luigi Ferraris.
13:39Of course, they were made to pay for that opening defeat to another CONCACAF side in Costa Rica.
13:46Here's a chance for Hayter.
13:50First real opportunity.
13:52And Deidson tools it.
13:56Yeah, but it's a threat again.
13:57Shankland careless in possession.
13:59But that's where Hayter are at their best.
14:02They want to win the ball back.
14:03They want to break in numbers.
14:04Deidson had better options.
14:06He goes for goal and it's not a great effort.
14:08A lot of glimpse from the Haitians that they're here to play.
14:17Their only World Cup appearance came in 1974.
14:22Scotland felt aggrieved at that tournament.
14:24Didn't lose any of their three group games, but were sent home early as per usual.
14:31I mean, it's a clear hand ball.
14:33You can see it from way up here in our vantage point there, Liam.
14:42Grant Hanley, whose international career has spanned 15 years now.
14:57There's Robertson now of Tottenham Hotspur, of course.
15:01Back heel from McGinn.
15:03It is Robertson.
15:05It's a great ball in as well.
15:07And McTominay couldn't keep it down.
15:10Great build up play again though.
15:13And another showcasing of Andy Robertson's talent in the wide areas.
15:17Yeah, and the link up with McGinn.
15:18It's the first time pass from Robertson knowing John McGinn's going to make that run.
15:22And likewise, the little back heel back into the path of Robertson.
15:26Knows exactly where he's going to be.
15:28And McTominay gets up nice and early, but just can't get the direction he's looking for.
15:35Nice little ball in field there by Jean-Jacques.
15:41Ferguson is losing out there to Isidar.
15:47He's now unhappy with the awarding of that free kick.
15:55That's a great defensive play from Lewis Ferguson.
15:57Isidar, we know how dangerous he is.
15:59Just getting back, putting enough pressure on him.
16:03Scored six goals for Sunderland in the season.
16:07Just finished.
16:09He's a handful, Liam.
16:10Found himself unfortunate that he was out of the team at Sunderland.
16:14Broby's form outstanding for Sunderland.
16:18But Isidar more than played his part.
16:20He is a real danger man for the Haitians.
16:30Here is Bologna as Ferguson.
16:32To Hickey.
16:37Aaron Hickey, like Ben Ganondoke, has had so many injury problems.
16:42And so little first team football at club level.
16:48Hickey with Brentford, Ganondoke with Bournemouth.
17:02And another there in Angus Gunn.
17:04Just 45 minutes.
17:06He played for Nottingham Forest.
17:09Last season.
17:11One half.
17:13Against Crystal Palace in February when he replaced Matt Sells.
17:22He handed the gloves ahead of the evergreen Craig Gordon.
17:28Aminou.
17:42Trowling the touchline.
17:49just about kept that inside the five seconds
17:55and Isidore has
17:59ended up bringing Ferguson
18:01crashing to the ground
18:03yeah it's just a follow through, miscontrols at Isidore
18:07through all of that collision with the knee on Lewis Ferguson's tie
18:11never pleasant, he just doesn't get a hold of the ball
18:14Isidore, Ferguson once again round him
18:184-4-2 it is pretty much
18:204-4-2 against 4-4-2
18:22but Ferguson doing that defensive shift to help out
18:25Hanline Henry in there, trying to get on the toes
18:27Isidore when he picks the ball up
18:30McTominay's done brilliantly there
18:31here's Ganondoke
18:33not quite free himself of
18:35Del Klat
18:40Haiti looking to
18:41spring Scotland but
18:44should have been dealt with really
18:46and
18:48no touch of fortune there because
18:51Aaron Hickey was struggling out in that far side
18:53but he wasn't struggling initially
18:55he reads it really well
18:56makes up the ground
18:58he's just trying to shield it out
18:59which is too far away from the line
19:01you can't get away with that
19:02in that situation you just have to deal with it
19:06in the cross in
19:07not a great quality, it's a bit of a let off
19:09but Aaron Hickey had that situation under control
19:14until he didn't
19:21and Hickey have it
19:24once again
19:25out it comes to
19:27Lucious Deidson
19:30and it's rifled high
19:32over the crossbar
19:35and it's a couple little
19:36warning signs here for Scotland
19:40yeah I mean the first one gives him a little confidence boost
19:42that they can cause problems
19:43and then
19:44we see them once again
19:45it's Adore backing in
19:46using his strengths
19:47it's a good layoff
19:49real guard
19:50just
19:51it's always on the way up
19:52doesn't get over the ball
19:53leaning back
19:54it's always going high
19:55but it's still a little warning sign
19:57and the more
19:57little glimpses that
19:59Haiti get
20:00the more confident they'll become
20:13and Haiti had a slow start to qualifying
20:15they drew their
20:16first two
20:17in the second group stage
20:23eventually got the motor running
20:25save for a 3-0 defeat to Honduras
20:28and CONCACAF qualifying
20:29was opened up
20:30because of the fact that
20:31three nations from there
20:33are co-hosting this tournament
20:37nice layoff by Adams
20:38McTominay
20:40new challenge there
20:42by John Jack
20:51it's Deidson
20:54it's been a good little spell
20:55for the Haitians this
21:00Robertson and McGinn gang up
21:02and Deidson
21:03runs a poor ball away
21:04by McTominay
21:05how costly is it going to be
21:09Isidore with the effort
21:10which is
21:12headed away by Hickey
21:13here's Shankland
21:15but the referee's going to bring it back
21:17it's a little awkward few minutes
21:19yeah
21:19a couple of little slack moments
21:21just creeping in
21:23Tom and he with the slack pass
21:25inside
21:27he's retained
21:28they get in around the box
21:29Haiti
21:29confidence will continue to build
21:40John Riechner-Bellgaard
21:42over the free kick
21:52it's a long way out
21:54however
21:55you might fancy it
22:00throng of players along the 18 yard line
22:03Belgaard drifts it in
22:05and it all comes to nothing
22:07yeah that's a waste
22:09a real good opportunity
22:11for Haiti to go and put Scotland under pressure
22:14it's just over hit
22:19Scotland need to
22:20get the composure back
22:22get control back in the game
22:40I think the Bostonians have absolutely loved having the Scotland fans around
22:44and they're going to be here for another few days
22:50the Morocco game here coming up on Friday
23:02and they're going to be here for another few days
23:03Ricardo Ade
23:03Ricardo Ade
23:03Ricardo Ade
23:04Ricardo Ade
23:07Ricardo Ade
23:10and his hands Delquah
23:30Scott made a flying start against the Bolivians last week
23:32but Haiti not on top right now
23:35it's a really good ball in as well
23:40Jack Hendry upended
23:42I'll tell you what he's filled here Jack Hendry but it's a brilliant header
23:47lovely little cross in at the end of a really good play
23:50from Haiti down the left
23:52it's a good header
23:53two hands in the back from Isidore
23:56he's in the right position Jack Hendry to deal with it
24:20a bit of wrestling there Shankland
24:25there goes the whistle
24:26but stop start
24:36the opening five minutes it looked like Scotland had settled pretty well
24:39but it's been a little bit backs to the wall
24:40yeah I mean it did start the best the brightest
24:43a couple of glumpses at goal without really testing
24:46I said Haiti have had a few glumpses himself and you can see that
24:52confidence is there from them
24:53comfortable in possession waiting for that moment
24:56to go and spring an attack
24:59that physicality in the forward line that will cause teams problems
25:07Haiti come into the tournament having won
25:09just four of their last 14 games
25:14playing with a bit of a swagger here
25:16there's no free kick coming
25:17for Ruben Providence over on the far side there
25:22it's Gan and Doak
25:25against Martin Experianz
25:29nice ball back McTominay
25:34rattles the post
25:39so close McTominay excellent from Gan and Doak
25:44and he's caught out a little bit at the other end
25:48here's Deidson
25:51it's a really good ball in as well
25:53and the goal's gaping
25:58you can see there are two Haitians with heads in hands
26:01and here's McTominay's effort
26:03yeah Gan and Doak does brilliantly set away
26:06McTominay catches that as clean as you like
26:09goalkeeper's beaten
26:11the post isn't
26:12that then Haiti
26:13showing exactly
26:14what they are
26:15hitting back straight away
26:17across from Deidson
26:19outstanding
26:20Isidore just missed times of jump
26:21but so close for both sides
26:29and suddenly
26:32this game is seesawing
26:34Adams for Ferguson
26:37Hickey
26:38Gan and Doak
26:45and we saw
26:46two superstars
26:49superstar defenders
26:51and you know
26:52Mendes and
26:52Josco Guardi all look very ordinary
26:55in the
26:55most recent Nations League tournament
27:10the atmosphere in the city James has been incredible hasn't it
27:13it has
27:13it has
27:14it has
27:14it has
27:14they've taken over
27:15no less than we expect
27:18they've come here in the numbers
27:19spent an absolute fortune to be here
27:23and just desperate to see
27:24Scotland's side winning
27:25so they can keep that party going
27:29Ferguson caught by Deidson
27:37doesn't appear to agree with the decision
27:43doesn't appear to agree with the decision
27:43he says
27:44Deidson
27:45plays for
27:46Dallas
27:47in the states
27:48in the Western Conference
27:57Yeah, it was close.
28:17You think Scotland have looked a little bit edgy?
28:20No, I think certain aspects then it's only natural.
28:24You're playing competitive game in the World Cup, first one in 28 years for Scotland.
28:28I know it's been a while longer for Haiti, but I think that the start was bright.
28:34You make decisions within games and sometimes you're punished, sometimes you're not.
28:38On the other side, I think early in the game, you look at the link-up with Robertson McGinn,
28:42looked as if it was gonna be really dangerous, going a little bit quiet,
28:47but rattled the post with McTominay in the link-up with him and Dope.
28:51It's only natural at times you're gonna have that little bit of nerve.
28:55Fabulous from McGinn.
28:57Clear touch by Shanklin, he slaps his hands in frustration.
29:01Yeah, and it's not like him.
29:03Again, good ball in from Robertson, over to John McGinn.
29:07He's got a chance to actually take that in, take a touch,
29:10but he's trying to flick that to John McGinn at first time.
29:15And his link-up play is normally so much better.
29:24Lachlan.
29:25Well played on.
29:41Deidson back to Arcus.
29:49Using Jean-Jacques.
29:52Another who plays in the States.
30:03And Delcoix.
30:06Finds Experianz.
30:11And Providence back to Ade.
30:27And Scott has been quite happy to set off at the moment.
30:31Carlense Arcus.
30:41Stayed in play according to the assistant on the far side.
30:47Jean-Jacques.
30:50Isidore's touch.
30:52He's out with Deidson.
30:53It's another really testing ball in.
30:59Isidore is adamant.
31:01He's been fouled in the box there.
31:04Might that be revisited?
31:11No, once again it's good play from Haiti.
31:14No.
31:16No.
31:16Very theatrical from Isidore.
31:19Throws himself to the ground trying to buy it.
31:21I mean, Grant Hanley is on his back, but...
31:23Barely any contact, if any.
31:28Sir Rod taking the game in.
31:31Arrived in the city.
31:33Earlier on today.
31:35As we hit the first cooling break.
31:40And I just wonder...
31:42Not just what's going through the mind of Steve Clark down there.
31:45What's going through the mind of James McFadden right now.
31:48Yeah, I mean, a promising start.
31:49And then Haiti have grown stronger.
31:52Since the first five or ten minutes.
31:55Scotland cracked the post and shown glimpses.
31:59But maybe just...
31:59Not quite that control that you're looking for.
32:03Well, if you want to get involved, scan the QR code
32:06and head to the live page in the BBC Sport app
32:08for polls, updates and reaction throughout the match.
32:16Relatively bright opening by Scotland.
32:19But I think it's safe to say that the Tartan army
32:22are not exactly sitting comfortably right now.
32:25No, they won't be in it.
32:26Look, I think we can all agree that Haiti are a good side.
32:30We said that before the game.
32:32And Scotland have, you know, as I said, had a bright start.
32:35Hit the post.
32:37But Haiti have had their moments as well.
32:39I mean, it is a World Cup opener in the group stage.
32:42There is a lot of pressure on both sides.
32:44Sure, it would be nice if there was a goal or two advantage.
32:48And we'd all love that.
32:49But there's still plenty in this team to go and get the control.
32:53They'll get words for Steve Clarke now.
32:55Maybe make little tweaks.
32:57Or just to reinforce the message that he'd given them
32:59at the start of the game, before the game kicked off.
33:01To get back to doing what they're good at.
33:03The one-touch pass and the link up between Robertson and McGinn.
33:06And Gannon don't get on the ball more often and cause some problems.
33:14Well, the players talked about Steve Clarke's pre-match team talk
33:18before the crucial Denmark qualifier last November.
33:24Boy, did it have the desired effect.
33:30Well, Scotland's major tournament record is well documented.
33:35With how poor it is.
33:38In the World Cup, they've only won four of their 23 matches.
33:43Wins coming against Zaire in 74 in Dortmund.
33:46The Netherlands famously in 78 in Mendoza.
33:50Archie Gemmell and all that.
33:52New Zealand in 82 in Malaga.
33:54And as I mentioned earlier, Sweden in 1990 in Genoa.
34:00And overall, just a couple of wins at European Championship Finals as well.
34:05Six wins from 35 major championship games.
34:12This is their 13th major finals appearance.
34:15And ninth at a World Cup.
34:25Just wonder what Clarke had to say to his players there.
34:29I think go back to what you did at the start.
34:32Get the ball moving quicker.
34:34Not really seeing Shankland or Adams.
34:37I'd like to see him test the goalkeeper.
34:39I think he may well be in the weakest parts of the team for Haiti.
34:43Does it look convincing?
34:46I'd like to see him being tested a little bit more.
34:51It looked like he had been beaten.
34:55McTominay's effort came back off the post.
35:02Ferguson did well again.
35:05He was the man his teammates felt was the most important player in qualifying.
35:15First time Scotland had topped a World Cup qualifying group since the campaign to get to Spain in 82.
35:22He reads the danger so well.
35:24Everyone's looking forward and trying to make forward runs.
35:28He's the one that spots where the danger is and more often than not snuffs it out.
35:39Can they find a way through?
35:41That's for Shankland.
35:44Picked up by Adi.
35:47Lovely footwork by Deidson.
35:50He has come to the fore in this match.
35:56Providence.
35:59He's the door on it again.
36:00It's Hanley's challenge this time.
36:03And once again he feels aggrieved.
36:06Yeah, my first thought is that he's thrown himself to the ground once again.
36:10He says that Hanley's got a hold of his arm.
36:13I mean, it's twice now.
36:15He's just thrown himself to the ground, Isidore.
36:17And they look up.
36:21I saw that controversial VAR moment...
36:24...last night in Los Angeles...
36:28..in the USA-Paraguay match.
36:34an act of simulation.
36:37Hanley goes long and finds Adams.
36:43Gannon Doak
36:45It's brilliantly done, Adams
36:48And McGann
36:49And in
36:58A goal for Anacin
37:02A goal
37:04Anacin is craved
37:08And Scotland are off and running
37:11John McGann
37:14Breaks the World Cup draft
37:21And there's a celebration
37:23From John McGann
37:24That we're so used to seeing
37:26But for me this goal
37:28Is all about Shea Adams
37:29This touch here
37:31The pass is excellent
37:33Into space
37:35It's over his shoulder
37:36It's a wonderful first touch
37:38From Shea Adams
37:39That allows the attack
37:40The attack to be built
37:41Gannon Doak
37:42His pace
37:43Dangerous ball in again
37:44I have to say
37:46It's a good save
37:46And John McGann
37:47A deflection
37:48He won't be caring
37:50But this touch here
37:51From Adams
37:53Outstanding
37:55And it's probably goal
37:56Goal bound anyway
37:57Maybe creeping into that
37:59Post at the side netting
38:01But he won't care about
38:02The deflection
38:06A goal for a country
38:08That's been on the outside
38:09Looking in for too long
38:10Denied access
38:12To the mother of all parties
38:14But suddenly
38:15Almost three decades
38:17In the doldrums
38:17Vanquished in an instant
38:25The Tartan army
38:26Celebrate under the lights
38:28In Massachusetts
38:33And reward for those
38:34Watching in the early hours
38:36Back home
38:37Yeah absolutely
38:38I mean I know it's late
38:40And a lot of people
38:41Especially young people
38:42Staying up
38:43To watch it
38:44But that is why you do it
38:45Moments like that
38:46And I just wonder
38:47In the little hydration break
38:49If Steve Clark's
38:50Asked for more direct balls
38:51In behind
38:52Because it has been
38:53A lot in front
38:53There's another one
38:55More direct up to the strikers
38:57Where they get their joy from
39:00Because it was
39:01A little bit in front
39:02As you said
39:03Maybe at times
39:04A little bit
39:05Nervy
39:05Tentative
39:06Be a bit more direct
39:08Putaheity under pressure
39:09Defensively
39:10They've got the rewards
39:12The touch from Shea Adams
39:13Is absolutely exquisite
39:18And now they are cooking
39:20Here is
39:21Ganondoke
39:24Hickey
39:28Looking to keep their foot
39:30Firmly on the throttle
39:36Just such a historic moment
39:38And John McGinn
39:40Gets his reward
39:42His 21st
39:44International goal
39:48He is one of only
39:50Five players
39:51To get over 20
39:52For Scotland
39:58What a season he had as well
40:00And Aston Villa
40:01Clearly carrying that one
40:03Into this World Cup
40:04With Scotland
40:08And he's that
40:09Yrota League
40:09Winner's medal
40:10Tucked away now
40:15McTominay
40:17Ganondoke
40:21He's at it again
40:22And Shankland
40:24Can't quite
40:25Can't quite
40:26Get the purchase
40:27On the header
40:29That's excellent
40:30Once again
40:31Ganondoke
40:32You can see
40:33They're doubling up
40:33On him
40:33They know the threat
40:34That he has
40:35He shifts it
40:36On his right foot
40:37And once again
40:38It's a good delivery
40:40And Shankland
40:41Makes that little move
40:42Early
40:42Just can't get enough
40:44On it
40:45Ganondoke
40:46Getting higher up
40:46The pitch as well
40:47Getting into dangerous areas
40:50Create those
40:511v1s
40:52That actually
40:52Sometimes is a 1v2
40:53Because Hayter
40:54Doubling up
40:55But he's still
40:55Finding the space
40:57Craig Burley
40:58Is no longer
41:01The last man
41:02To score
41:03For Scotland
41:04At the World Cup
41:05Finals
41:07As you see
41:08The confirmation
41:11That he was
41:11Onside
41:13Yeah
41:13Let's hope
41:14John McGinn's
41:14Not the last one
41:15Either
41:18That's the thing
41:19Unless he wants
41:20To score all the goals
41:21Well he might
41:21He'll certainly
41:23Fancy that
41:26His best
41:27Spell for Scotland
41:28He scored 7
41:29In the Euro 2020
41:30Qualifiers
41:31It's his best
41:32Scoring spell
41:34But only
41:35Law, Dalgleish
41:36Gallagher and Riley
41:37Ahead of him
41:38Coming into this tournament
41:39In the goal scoring
41:40States in Scotland's history
41:46Meantime
41:46Haiti
41:47Looking to
41:47Hit back here
41:53There's another
41:54Good ball in
41:55I mean a lot of that
41:58Where goes Scotland's
42:00Wait
42:00It's a great ball
42:01In
42:02A little whip
42:02From Belgarde
42:04But
42:05Scotland have the numbers
42:06In there
42:06To make sure
42:07It's not a clean header
42:16As it stands
42:17Scotland are top
42:18Of group C
42:19Long time to go
42:21Still sounds good
42:22Though
42:25We don't get here
42:26Often
42:26We need to enjoy it
42:27There's no doubt
42:30Piaro
42:32Woken up a little bit
42:33For him there
42:35With Providance
42:37Faced by Hickey
42:38It's Providance
42:39Spilled by Gunn
42:42Hendry gets it
42:43Half away
42:45And they get away
42:46With it
42:46Angus Gunn
42:48Gets away with it
42:48And flags up
42:50Anyway
42:50Yeah
42:52I mean again
42:52Just a glimpse
42:53From Haiti
42:55How dangerous
42:56It can be
42:56Providance coming in
42:58And he does spill it
43:00Angus Gunn
43:04And he's enjoying
43:05With him
43:05Goal once again
43:06From a
43:08Similar
43:08Out
43:08Vantage point
43:10There
43:10I mean he's
43:10Bobbled it
43:11Into the ground
43:12Which has probably
43:12Helped him
43:13But
43:13He won't care
43:18Nobody
43:18Of a Scottish
43:20Persuasion
43:21Cares
43:22How it made
43:23Its way
43:23Into the net
43:24Just that
43:25It did
43:30Nice play again
43:31By Deedson
43:32He's a real
43:33Troublemaker
43:33He's at it
43:34Again
43:35Here
43:39Robertson
43:39Is penalised
43:44He's causing
43:45Problems
43:46Down this
43:46Near side
43:47Is
43:48Noisius Deedson
43:49Yeah he is
43:50He sees a real
43:51Bright spark
43:52In his Haiti side
43:53And Andrew Robertson
43:55Just desperate
43:55To get back
43:56Because he'd been
43:57Beaten by
43:57Deedson
44:00Right in front
44:01Of the assistant
44:01Referee as well
44:02But they are
44:03Dangerous
44:04We know that
44:05We knew that
44:06Before
44:06Kick off
44:09Bell guard
44:10Over the free
44:11Kick
44:13And he's headed
44:14Well wide
44:16And a bit of
44:17An anti-climax
44:17For the Haitians
44:19On that occasion
44:20Isidor
44:21Found himself
44:22The angle
44:23Of the six yard
44:24Box
44:25Yeah I wonder
44:26If he's better
44:26Served
44:26Just trying to
44:27Flick that on
44:27Towards the
44:28Back post
44:28There
44:29He's going
44:29For a goal
44:29Can he just
44:30Glance that
44:31Into the back
44:31Post
44:32Because he knows
44:32How far
44:33Beyond that
44:33Near post
44:34He is
44:46It's under
44:46Ten to the break
44:47Plus stoppages
44:48Scotland in front
44:53It's been a
44:54Pretty keenly
44:55Contested
44:55Match up
44:56So far
44:58He looked at the
44:59Referee for the
45:00Free kick
45:00And he gets
45:00His wish
45:02Despite Ruben
45:03Providan's
45:05Complaints
45:06He does well
45:07But when the ball
45:08Comes out
45:08Shea Adams
45:09Had made
45:09A brilliant run
45:10Just bent
45:11His run
45:11There was loads
45:12Of space
45:14Scotland's right
45:15Here to the
45:15Left hand side
45:16Just needs to
45:17Help it
45:17Into an area
45:19Space is there
45:20And that's where
45:21The goal
45:21Comes from
45:39Good switch
45:40That by
45:40Handley
45:40Here's
45:41Robertson
45:4395th cap
45:45For Andy
45:45Robertson
45:45Tonight
45:46Closing in
45:46Kenny Dalgrish's
45:47Long standing
45:48Record
45:49Of 102
45:53Belgar
45:53Does
45:55Shifted up
45:56To the edge
45:56Of the box
45:56And Hickey
45:57Into the
45:57Act
45:58To nick that
45:58Away from
45:59Providence
46:02Yeah he
46:03Tides his up
46:03Well
46:03Aaron Hickey
46:04This is
46:05Haiti at the
46:06Best
46:06Those little
46:06Runs
46:07That pass
46:08Inside
46:08The link
46:09Up was
46:09Very good
46:09But Hickey
46:11Bright and
46:11Alert
46:11To it
46:15Comes from
46:16A situation
46:16Where Jordan
46:17McGinn
46:17Takes the
46:17Ball in
46:18He's
46:18Backing in
46:19He's
46:19Looking for
46:19The space
46:20Andy Robertson
46:20Had gone
46:21Ahead
46:21So the
46:22Space
46:22Is there
46:23For
46:23He
46:23To exploit
46:24He's
46:24Got to
46:25Lose
46:25Possession
46:25And that's
46:26Exactly
46:26What
46:26They
46:26Do
46:27Aaron Hickey
46:28Switched
46:28On
47:01He's
47:02And that's
47:02Hustle goes again
47:03And the yellow card's
47:04Out this time
47:12And it's Belgaard on Shankland.
47:19Shankland back defending.
47:21Just over reaches.
47:23See the right leg coming round as well.
47:26Easy decision for the referee.
47:29It's been relegated with Wolves as Jean-Rachner Belgaard.
47:37He arrived at the club for just under £13 million.
47:53Yeah, the ref's going to bring that back there.
47:55And the foul on Ferguson again.
48:03The Nigerian referee.
48:25Yeah, apologies again if there's been a loss in pictures.
48:28It's a world feed problem.
48:31So everyone suffered it.
48:33But you're back with us now.
48:35As Robertson takes the free kick.
48:38It's headed down towards Adams and hooked away before he could get a sniff at it.
48:46Robertson.
48:51It's a good header clear there by Arcus.
48:55And it's Belgaard.
48:58Right to Deidson once more.
49:01Knocks it past McGinn.
49:04Three waiting and white in the middle.
49:07And it's a pretty tame header.
49:09In the end from Francie Piero.
49:11Yeah, it's Deidson once more.
49:13Down the right-hand side.
49:15He's so dangerous.
49:16He's so quick and direct.
49:18But also...
49:20He's preferred to just bend it in with the outside of the left.
49:23He cuts back.
49:24Goes for the inswinger.
49:26It's another dangerous cross from him.
49:47And he takes the high road looking for Shankland.
49:53And quite to settle for him.
49:56He's so unlucky, Shanklin does really well initially, he's backing into Addy, ball flicks up and he's having to go
50:02and contend again.
50:04He just can't get that layoff to Shea Adams, but it's certainly an out ball for Scotland, you've got two
50:10strikers up there, Adams happy to run in behind,
50:14but you know when it comes to Shanklin, for the balls in the air, he's going to get his body
50:17in and cause problems.
50:20Experience with the ball in the field and then lashed high over the bar by the increasingly frustrated Bellegarde.
50:30You have to watch what he's saying, having picked up that yellow card a few minutes ago.
50:34Yeah, he's claiming a push for Shanklin, but I think that's because of how bad his shot was, he's wanting
50:40the referee to bail him out there.
50:50Now those statistics in the bottom left of your picture there tell you how even a game it's been really,
50:57though Scotland did hit the post before they took the lead through McGinn, who's goal return for his country is
51:03magnificent.
51:04Yeah, I think that's fair, you can see that, Scotland have obviously managed to get in front,
51:10but I think it's been a pretty even game, both teams showing what they're capable of.
51:18Yeah, I think it's been a pretty even game, both teams showing what they're capable of.
51:21It's Providance.
51:27Bellegarde.
51:30And here it goes, here's Ferguson.
51:34And again, he's looking for Ganondoke.
51:38He's found Ganondoke.
51:45It's Brentford's Hickey.
51:47For McTominay.
51:50Another excellent season in Naples, despite the fact they were a little beaten for the title by Inter Milan.
52:00Only Rasmus Hoyland scored more goals for Napoli last season.
52:08And there's Argentina's Lautaro Martinez, who led the way in Italy.
52:22A bit unorthodox by McTominay, but it worked.
52:25Adam Doak looking for Adams.
52:27Give Adi a hard time.
52:29And left him like that.
52:33He doesn't think there's much in it.
52:35Yeah, I'd like to see that again.
52:38You can see Adi all over Adams.
52:43I think he's fortunate there, Adi.
52:45D' hitching, but it worked.
52:54Downly's on Jack.
52:59Delcois.
53:02Experianz.
53:05and Providance behind him.
53:10Petey looking to tie things up before the break, final minute of the opening, 45.
53:17And Fierro's touch lets him down.
53:21And there was a flag, again.
53:27Yeah, I mean, it is a poor touch and it is offside, but Andy Robertson again, just mopping up.
53:34Decent position to go and tidy up there, Andy Robertson.
53:53Good to see the pipes in tonight, but it's difficult to hear them over the den of this fantastic crowd
54:00that's inside the stadium tonight.
54:04Boston Stadium, four minutes added.
54:08Into the first of them.
54:13So important for Scotland, they don't concede before that halftime whistle.
54:17Absolutely, the players know that, don't concede.
54:22Can you even be a little bit greedy and go and get a second?
54:26That's gone Scotland's way.
54:28It's probably done starting to have a top of the ref.
54:41Not much of a muchness, but that bit there is what's tilted it in Scotland's favour.
54:46Yeah. I mean, they're both holding each other.
54:48That's when he turns the arm across Hickey's face and then the little push.
54:55Good defending from Aaron Hickey.
55:11And that's in Haiti ball this time.
55:19Didn't play any of their home games in Haiti due to the conflict in the country, and as I said
55:25earlier,
55:26their French coach Sebastien Migné has never set foot in the island.
55:29There's a conflict that's been ongoing since the devastating earthquake in January 2010.
55:37And the Haitian Football Federation amidst that disaster lost around 30 members
55:44of the organization. Many sought refuge at the national stadium where humanitarian and
55:51disaster relief operations were taking place at the time. It remains the deadliest natural
55:57disaster of the 21st century for a single country.
56:05Tough time for the Haitian people.
56:11Shanklin couldn't deal with it.
56:20Niti desperately pushing for an equalizer before the interval, which is almost upon us.
56:30Experianz, Jean-Jacques, he's gonna get it back here, and it's fallen kindly for McGinn.
56:41And that's going to be a free-kick Steedson's foul this time.

57:01Having their moments once again, Haiti, without troubling the Scotland goal, but
57:06certainly they will not be giving up in this game because there's nothing to lose.
57:13They come in as the underdogs, and I think they've performed very well.
57:17You can see they've got really good quality throughout their team.
57:21It's a team you don't want to give encouragement to.
57:30They lead 1-0 against Peru all the way through to the final 10 minutes last week.
57:36Lost 2-1.
57:37As Garland Doak opens his box of tricks again, but final ball lets him down, away by Deedsson.
57:48Scotland looking to finish with a flourish here in the first half.

58:20And that goal that he scored tonight will undoubtedly be taking the number one slot,
58:29particularly if Scotland going to win this game.
58:31Because it's John McGinn's goal that separates the teams at the interval.
58:36A fairly even first half and a 21st international goal for the Aston Villa midfielder.
