04:18I think I heard a noise there

04:23I wonder who it can be
04:24Just go and see
04:26Just go and see
04:30Hi, you do
04:31Oh, hello, Miss Hoody
04:32Hello, children
04:33Hi
04:36Oh, what a pleasant surprise
04:38Come on in
04:38Oh, thank you
04:40So, how are you?
04:42Oh, great, thanks
04:45I was wondering
04:46Do you know anything about hedgehogs?
04:49Hedgehogs?
04:50Oh, yes
04:51They're small, spiky animals
04:53With cute, buttoned noses
04:55Oh, and they love to snuffle around
04:58Oh, I doubt you'll see any
04:59At this time of year
05:00No?
05:01Well, why is that?
05:03They like to sleep
05:03Right through the cold winter months
05:05Oh, well
05:06I saw one
05:08What?
05:09No
05:10You've seen a hedgehog
05:11Yes
05:12I spotted one
05:13By the side of the road
05:14This morning
05:15Really?
05:16Have you brought him in?
05:17Oh, I'd love to see him
05:19No, well, I popped him into a shoebox
05:22And left him on a seat of the bus
05:23It's nice and quiet and warm on there
05:25Oh, excellent
05:26Oh, I love hedgehogs
05:28Oh, they're such spiky-wee things
05:30I'll just get him a coat
05:31And then we can go and see him
05:32Oh, well, Miss Hoody, actually
05:33I would rather we didn't disturb him
05:36You see, if all hedgehogs are meant to be fast asleep
05:39Perhaps he's not feeling very well
05:41Oh, wee lamb
05:44Still, we should put something into the shoebox
05:47For him to snuggle into
05:48Oh, I know
05:50What about my blanket?
05:52Oh, it's the softest, snugest blanket I have
05:55Oh, thanks
05:56Oh, no, wait
05:57I know something that the hedgehog would like better than this
06:00What's that?
06:01Straw
06:02Straw
06:03Oh, do you have any?
06:05Yes
06:07No
06:08But you'll be able to get some from Pocket and Sweets
06:11Or they're bound to have some
06:12Well, I'll nipple on there right away
06:15Oh, are you sure you don't want me to watch the hedgehog while you're gone?
06:19Oh, no, thanks
06:20He'll be just fine
06:21Thank you, Miss Hoody
06:23Bye
06:24Bye, Edie
06:27I wonder which coloured house Edie will visit first today
06:35Can you see all the different coloured houses sitting by the sea?
06:41Well, there's part of the story in Balamori asked
06:44Which is the house for me?
06:47Is it pink?
06:48Is it blue?
06:50Which coloured house are we going to?
06:53Yellow, green house, orange or red?
06:56Or should we go to the white house instead?
06:58Orange house, green house, red house or white?
07:04Pink house, yellow, blue?
07:07Which coloured house are we going to?
07:15Which coloured house are we going to?
07:18Tell me what do you think?
07:21Which coloured house are we going to?
07:24Tell me what do you think?
07:27It's the red house!
07:31Yes, it's the red house
07:33Because that's where Penny and Susie live
07:43Hello, Edie, what's the rush?
07:45Well, I've just picked up a hedgehog on the roadside
07:49And I need some straw to make him nice and comfy before I take him over to the vets
07:54Of course
07:55I'll just go and fetch you some
07:56I won't be long
07:59Well, I'm sure the straw will help...
08:01What's his name?
08:03Name?
08:04I don't know
08:06Hamish?
08:07Hamish the hedgehog
08:08Oh, how sweet!
08:10And where's Hamish now?
08:11Oh, he's on a seat in the bus
08:13In his shoebox
08:14A shoebox?
08:16Don't you think we, Hamish, will be a bit more comfortable being carried around in something
08:21A bit better than an old cardboard shoebox?
08:24Well, what did you have in mind?
08:26How about this cat box?
08:31Oh, perfect!
08:33Now, that is perfect, yes
08:36Hamish will love that
08:38Hamish?
08:40A hedgehog
08:41Oh, sweet!
08:45Oh, well, here's the straw you wanted
08:47Yes, the eagle
08:48Oh, thank you, Penny
08:49I was just thinking, it's a long drive to the vet and Hamish might be getting peckish
08:55I actually don't even know what a hedgehog eats
09:00Oh, I know
09:01I'll phone the vet and ask him
09:02As well as telling him that you're on your way
09:04Oh, great!
09:07Do you know, come to think of it
09:08I don't even know what a hedgehog drinks
09:11Well, how about water?
09:13Now, we've got plenty of that in glass bottles and plastic bottles and oodles of it in the tap
09:18No, I think we should wait until we've spoken to the vet
09:24Problem
09:25The vet's away on the mainland and won't be back until tomorrow
09:29Oh, no!
09:31Well, I mean, what am I going to do about Hamish?
09:33I don't know the first thing about hedgehogs
09:35Nor do I
09:38Who do we know that could tell us about hedgehogs?
09:44Who else but Plummy?
09:47Of course, PC Plum
09:54I'm PC Plum and I'll tell you what I've done
09:58I've peddled round this island more than once or twice
10:03And if you call on me, we can make a cup of tea
10:07I'll tell you all about the bees and birds and mice
10:14I'm PC Plum and I'll tell you who I am
10:18I'm your policeman and I'll always be your chum
10:22With my magnifying glass
10:25I can look between the grass
10:27At all the tiny beasties
10:29We look at them run
10:32You can bet you'll see me are coming
10:36On my bike, I'm riding round the town
10:41In the country, I check on all the wildlife
10:45People, trees and animals
10:48I keep them safe and sound
10:50Safe and sound
10:54I'm PC Plum
11:05PC Plum
11:07I'm just a chicken
11:09PC Plum
11:12I love the country
11:13PC Plum
11:16Be careful crossing
11:18PC Plum
11:20I found your doggie
11:23PC Plum
11:25Here's your handbag
11:27PC Plum
11:41Is that me?
11:50Oh, hello, Edie
11:52Oh, you're just in time for a nice cup of tea
11:53Oh, sorry, Prummy
11:54I haven't time for tea
11:55Oh, there's always time for a cuppa
11:57Not today
11:58I have an emergency on my hands
12:01An emergency?
12:02So, tell me
12:03What's the story in Balamori?
12:05Well
12:10I visited Miss Hooley
12:12To get some advice
12:13On a hedgehog
12:14I found at the side of the road
12:16I needed some straw
12:18To keep him cosy
12:19So I went along
12:20To see Pocket and Sweet
12:23Susie sold me a cat box
12:25Which was perfect
12:26To carry Hamish the hedgehog
12:28On his trip
12:29To see the vet
12:31Penny called the vet
12:33And found he would be away
12:35Visiting the mainland
12:36And wouldn't be back
12:37In Balamori
12:38Until tomorrow
12:42I think Hamish needs feeding
12:44And I thought you could tell me
12:46What to do with him
12:50Hamish the hedgehog
12:51Yes
12:53Oh, I hope he's all right
12:55You see
12:56He curls up into a wee ball
12:58Every time I go near him
13:01He's just shy
13:02And a wee bit weary
13:03After all
13:04He's used to living in green fields
13:06And hedgerows
13:07Not in cat boxes
13:08Oh, well, I suppose
13:10Yes
13:10The hedgehogs roll up into wee balls
13:12To protect themselves
13:13Oh, and to sleep
13:16Oh
13:18Look at the wee chap
13:20He's probably very hungry
13:22Oh
13:23What do you think hedgehogs would eat and drink?
13:26They eat all sorts of creepy crawlies
13:28Like snails and slugs
13:30Worms and beetles
13:31Oh, and he should really only drink water
13:33Sounds like a recipe for the tummy rumbles
13:36Oh, Plummy
13:37What should I do with him?
13:39Hmm
13:41Oh, well
13:42I'm planning to take the children on a nature trail
13:44Why don't you come?
13:45We could pop into the animal hospital first
13:47And get Hamish checked out
13:48Before I pick up the children
13:49Oh, thanks
13:50Oh, come on
13:52Maybe we could use your bus
13:54Of course
13:56Right
14:13Now, there are lots of hedgehogs here, Edie
14:15This is all a wildlife sanctuary
14:17And they care for lots of animals and birds
14:19Especially hedgehogs
14:21Come on
14:24Hello, Mrs Christie
14:25Hello, PC Plum
14:26Hello, Edie
14:27Hello
14:28And what have you got for us today?
14:30This is Hamish
14:32Okay, let's have a look at Hamish
14:34We think he's woken up too early from his hibernation
14:36Well, let's have a look at him, shall we?
14:39Well, I hope I did the right thing bringing him here
14:42I think what we really need to do is weigh Hamish
14:45I think he's probably not heavy enough to hibernate right through the winter
14:49Oh, do you think you're going to have to fatten him up?
14:52That's right
14:53Our hedgehogs all eat cat food during the winter
14:56So it's quite easy to feed them
14:57We don't have to go around collecting slugs and worms for them
15:00Oh, right
15:01Cat food
15:02And what do they have to drink?
15:04Water
15:04Just water
15:05Just water
15:05Milk's not good for the hedgehogs
15:07Well, he's certainly in the right place
15:09Probably just give him a little bit of medicine, I think
15:11Just in case he's got any infection at all
15:14That's a good boy
15:16Oh, good Hamish
15:18That was good
15:19Well done
15:22I think we can go into one of our overwintering hedgehog houses
15:26Oh, that was a good boy
15:29Well done
15:31Come on Hamish, I'll take you to meet the other hedgehogs
15:33Let me help you Mrs Christie
15:36Come on Hamish
15:37Time to meet all your new pals
15:39I'm just going to put a Hamish up here
15:43This is where we keep all the hedgehogs that have been disturbed in their hibernation
15:56Look at all those little Hamishes
16:04Come on Hamish
16:07Oh, Hamish
16:08You have to eat up
16:10You've got a long winter to get through
16:23Oh, thank you so much Mrs Christie for helping Hamish
16:28Oh, he really does look so much happier now
16:37So, what was the story in Balamori?
16:45Edie visited me to tell me she and the children had spotted a hedgehog at the side of the road
16:50and put it in a shoebox
16:55She then went to Pocket and Sweets to get some straw to make it comfortable
17:00Susie tried to find her something nice and cosy
17:02to carry the hedgehog in for its trip to the vets
17:06Penny rang the vet only to find he was away visiting the mainland
17:11And so Edie went to see P.C. Plum for help with the hedgehog
17:16P.C. Plum took her and the hedgehog to visit a hedgehog sanctuary
17:24At the sanctuary they watched a vet care for Hamish the hedgehog
17:30and putting him in a room full of hedgehogs to sleep
17:37I'd better pop this back into the cupboard
17:39in case Edie finds another hedgehog on her way here
17:47So, that was the story in Balamori today
17:50Bye
