00:00Speaking with the TV6 Morning Edition, Senior Counsel Avery Synanon says the true strength of the state of emergency lies
00:09in the regulations,
00:11adding that while naysayers oppose the measure, some may be motivated by their own interests.
00:17Certain people have their own agenda and they will criticise the state of emergency, perhaps irrationally so.
00:24As a matter of fact, it's in this context that I find it difficult to fathom the opposition's position on
00:35the state of emergency.
00:37After all, this was a legacy that was bequeathed by them when they were in office to the current government.
00:44However, the Senior Counsel believes there's room for improvement, suggesting government can draw on additional expertise to better and effectively
00:55operationalise the emergency measures.
00:58The mandate of the government now is to go back to the drawing board and get outside assistance if necessary,
01:05foreign assistance,
01:06and come up with some comprehensive plans, you know, to address the level of crime.
01:13The fact that there's 500 or so people, there are 500 citizens. That's the point.
01:22And on recent statements from the Prime Minister and the Attorney General directed at the 1%,
01:29Senior Counsel Synanon says he interprets the message as a signal that the law must be applied evenly to all,
01:37while noting that the country's leaders may have their reasons for adopting such a position.
01:42It may be that the Attorney General and the Prime Minister privy to information, which in due course will have
01:48to go through the sieve of law enforcement or the investigating agencies.
01:55And if there is anything prima facie that points to these persons, deal with it. Deal with it.
