00:01Solihull Police Station has stood on Homer Road for decades, but its future is now back before
00:07council planners. A new planning application proposes demolishing the 60s building and
00:14replacing it with a five-storey office block and a multi-storey car park. The move follows
00:20a long-running dispute over the station's closure and sale. The original proposal emerged
00:26in 2018 when the then Police and Crime Commissioner David Jameson agreed to sell the site as part
00:33of savings plans for West Midlands Police. Teams from the site and the Public Contact Office
00:39were expected to co-locate locally, with Chalmsley Wood Police Station becoming the borough's
00:45new police team headquarters. Campaigners argued the Homer Road station should remain open and
00:51more than one thousand people signed a petition opposing its loss. The latest application
00:57from Opus Land says the redevelopment would create Grade A office space with five levels
01:03of parking and 273 spaces. Planning documents say the site is close to public transport, local
01:11amenities and Solihull Town Centre. The issue has also been politically contested. Conservative
01:18MP Sakeet Bharti has previously warned closure could undermine local safety and security. Residents
01:26can give their views until July the 9th.
