00:00Anyone says it's Summer in the City programme will return to Newcastle this summer with a packed schedule of free
00:06activities based mainly around the Quayside and the centre of the city.
00:10Organisers say more than 75 events are planned during the school holidays with sessions aimed at families, children and adults
00:16across the city.
00:17We're really excited to bring back Anyone's Summer Events programme this year.
00:21There's loads of fun, colourful activations happening.
00:23As you can see now we're in Grey Street Gathering, which is a really great fun pop-up installation within
00:29the city.
00:30We've got loads of different events for everyone.
00:32It's a great opportunity for families to make memories, do some experiences that you might not be able to access
00:39otherwise and just come into the city, explore and it's all entirely free, which is a great bonus.
00:45I mean, a prime example of this is our Tiny Toon.
00:48I mean, you can't get that anywhere else.
00:50It's a miniature version of Newcastle celebrating some of our really incredible local, iconic and independent businesses.
00:58It's now an award-winning event as well, which is fantastic.
01:02Organisers say many of the events will take place on and around the Quayside with local businesses and activity providers
01:08helping to deliver the programme.
01:11Anyone launched Summer in the City in 2021 as part of efforts to increase footfall in Newcastle during the summer
01:18holidays.
01:19The organisation says the initiative has continued to expand with a wider range of free activities planned again this year.
01:26We're kicking off this year with Screen on the Green, anyone's Screen on the Green.
01:30It's a family favourite, comes back every year.
01:33It started 10 years ago and now it's grown to an incredible beast that now takes over the whole of
01:38Old Eldon Square.
01:39It's starting on the 29th of June with our Summer of Sport.
01:43So every year we show Wimbledon, which is a really nice opportunity to take a lunch break, head out in
01:47the sun and enjoy some tennis.
01:49And then once that's kind of over, we move into the 20th of July, which is when our screening starts.
01:55So every day there'll be at least two films, so over 100 films across the whole six weeks of the
02:00summer.
02:00So we've got lots of dates to put in the calendar this year, obviously with us starting off with Screen
02:05on the Green on the 29th,
02:07running into our film schedule from the 20th of July until the 31st of August.
02:11So this year we're actually extending it to the Mondays, it's a bank holiday, so an extra day of fun
02:15for everyone to enjoy.
02:16And that includes Tiny Toon and our Stay and Play Zone.
02:20Then some other key dates for the diary, we have Dog on the Tyne coming back this year on the
02:241st of August.
02:25And we also have anyone's Quayside Carnival coming back on the 22nd of August.
02:30And then we are also working with Mela and the City, who are coming back on the 29th of August.
02:35And then finally we are ending our Summer event schedule with the Dragon Boat Race on the 26th of September,
02:41which is again another fantastic event with loads of stuff happening on the ground on the Quayside.
02:45Organisers say full event details and booking information will continue to be updated online ahead of the Summer holidays.
02:51The programme is expected to run across several weeks during July and August,
02:56with activities taking place throughout Newcastle City Centre.
