'Don't respond this way': Sister of murdered MP urges protestors to settle after disorder in Belfast
Transcript
00:00Oh my goodness, it's devastating. I've been to Belfast, what an amazing city it is, full of the kindest, nicest
00:06people you could hope to meet.
00:08And to see people on the streets, masked people on the streets, setting fire to people's houses, setting fire to
00:15buses, attacking the police and the fire services, I mean it's just devastating.
00:19It's absolutely devastating. Now, the heinous act that happened in Belfast was horrific, absolutely horrific. We call that out.
00:28But the way to respond to that is not to take to the streets and riot and cause more trouble
00:33and more problems.
00:34I understand anger. Believe me, I really do understand anger.
00:38But you've all got a choice as to what you do with that anger and surely we have to show
00:43a different way.
00:43We have to call out horrific acts of violence like that wherever it happens and whoever perpetrates it.
00:49But what we cannot do is create chaos in our country and in our brilliant cities like Belfast, where most
00:57people, again, are just full of kindness and compassion.
01:00So I would just urge anybody, wherever horrible things happen in the world, please, please, please don't respond with things
01:08which are just so counterproductive to creating and building the kind of country that I think we all want to
01:14see.
