00:02The KL High Court has ruled that Aznida Abdul Daim, daughter of the late former finance minister,
00:08Tundayim Zainuddin, may keep her international passport permanently.
00:12Judge Nurul Huda, Nur Aini Mohamed Noor, ruled that there was no justification to withhold the
00:18passport, saying Aznida's absence from a previous MACC appointment had not been proven to indicate
00:23a flight risk. The prosecution had objected, arguing that Aznida's frequent overseas travel
00:29and business interests abroad made her a potential flight risk. The deputy public prosecutor also
00:35noted the case involved public interest, as Aznida is one of the children of the late
00:40Tundayim. But her lawyer counted that frequent business travel alone was not a reasonable basis
00:45to assume someone would flee. The court ordered the passport to be returned to Aznida within seven
00:50days. The 65-year-old is currently facing a charge of allegedly providing a false sworn written statement
00:56to the MACC. She pleaded not guilty in April. If convicted, she faces up to five years in prison
01:03and a fine of up to 100,000 ringgit.
