00:00The Kuala Lumpur High Court has ordered Rosma Mansoor to pay US$14.6 million to Global Royalty
00:07Trading for 43 pieces of jewellery that were provided to her for inspection in 2018.
00:14Justice Kuei Chu Soon allowed the company sued, seeking the return of the jewellery
00:19or payment of its estimated value, and ordered the sum to be paid within one month.
00:25Kuei also dismissed Rosma's claim for indemnity against the police, whom she had brought
00:30into the case as third parties.
00:34The judge said Rosma never denied that the jewellery had been sent to her for viewing
00:38and had subsequently failed to return the items, making it her responsibility to explain their
00:43whereabouts.
00:45He also found her defence inconsistent with her position in an earlier forfeiture proceeding
00:51and said her failure to call key witnesses involved in handling and transporting the
00:56jewellery weakened her case.
00:59Kuei said there was no evidence that police had seized all 43 pieces of jewellery, adding
01:05that Rosma could not rely solely on the 2018 police raid to explain her failure to return
01:10them.
