00:00A former PAS leader has cast doubt on the party's ability to revive cooperation with UMNO,
00:06citing its recent split with Bersatu and questioning its calls for Malay-Muslim unity.
00:12Khairuddin Aman Razali, who left PAS in 2022 after efforts to unite the Islamic party and UMNO failed,
00:19said the collapse of PAS's alliance with Bersatu had raised questions about its reliability as a political partner.
00:26In a statement today, the UMNO Ulama Council Deputy Chairman said Malaysians had seen how a relationship once marked by
00:34mutual praise
00:35had quickly given way to criticism following PAS's decision yesterday to end cooperation with Bersatu.
00:42Khairuddin said such conduct was not in keeping with Islamic values,
00:46asking how PAS could be trusted to rebuild ties with UMNO when its relationship with Bersatu had proven so fragile.
00:54PAS President Abdul Hadi Awang announced yesterday that the party had ended cooperation with Bersatu,
01:01citing developments in Negeri Sembilan and Perlis,
01:03as well as disagreements over efforts to bring certain parties into Perikatan Nasional.
01:09Khairuddin said UMNO's cooperation with PKR and Amanah currently offered a better path for revival,
01:15while maintaining that UMNO, PAS, PKR and Amanah should ideally work together for the sake of Malay-Muslim unity.
