00:00Former Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Chief Azam Baki has filed a defamation lawsuit
00:06against controversial businessman Albert Tay over several online publications.
00:11Messrs Zain Magat and Murad, representing Azam, said the writ of summons and statement
00:16of claim were filed at the Sharlam High Court yesterday.
00:20The law firm explained that the civil action was related to the recent publication and
00:25re-publication of statements about Azam, which he claimed were false and defamatory and had
00:30been circulated through a podcast, YouTube Shorts and other online platforms.
00:35It said Azam maintained that the allegations were baseless and untrue and that he commenced
00:40these proceedings to clear his reputation and good name, built over nearly four decades of
00:45public service.
00:46The firm said Azam was seeking damages and permanent injunctive relief.
00:51Separately, Bukit Aman's Criminal Investigation Department is probing Tay's allegation under
00:56Section 506 of the Penal Code for Criminal Intimidation and has recorded Azam's statement
01:03regarding the matter.
