00:02Let's keep going.
00:03Guru in San Jose.
00:05Hi, Guru.
00:09Hey, guys.
00:11Before I get into the call, I think I have on good accord what that drilling noise was in the
00:16locker room.
00:17It was the Giants trying to repair their season.
00:20Yeah, that's what it is.
00:22I need more than just some power tools for that.
00:26I would assume so.
00:28I would assume so.
00:29But anyways, coming in on a light mood here, I think, you know, that's the first time I've seen Logan
00:39Webb that nonchalant after a win or a loss.
00:43And, you know, I mean, it leads me to believe that, like, you know, like there has been a lot
00:50of talk about it.
00:50Like, is Logan Webb on the trade blog this time around if the Giants don't make significant movement?
00:58I mean, it furthered the season.
01:01And I think there are some links to that.
01:05I really do.
01:06And, I mean, the game was over yesterday.
01:09The only song that could ring from my head was...
01:16That's awesome.
01:18Well done, Guru.
01:19Oh, my gosh.
01:20Very well done.
01:21Very good.
01:22Thank you, Guru.
01:24That's funny.
01:26I mean, that was...
01:27Wow.
01:27That was just about nine days ago.
01:29We were making light of bad things with that.
01:32That music is in my nightmares.
01:35Yes, that music.
01:36That's the music that comes on right after Dwayne Kuyper stops talking and the Giants have just blown another one
01:44or given up a nine-run inning to the White Sox or a seven-run inning to the Brewers.
01:49And there's the third out.
01:51Bam-da-da-da-da-da-da-da.
01:53Da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da
01:56-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da
01:56-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da
01:59-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da
02:16-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da
02:20-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da-da
02:23minors you can bring people in off the street but good lord you're not giving up assets in any sort
02:28of a way to go get a closer now you're 13 games under 500 um you're a little bit in
02:34a moment of
02:34you've made your bed now you need to lie in this for a little while i think i don't think
02:39there's
02:40any there's no fix there's no huge move i think what guru brings up though is quite frankly it's
02:47a scary question and that is is logan webb available at the deadline i don't think the
02:52giants organization wants to do that but you're getting you're sending yourself down a road
02:59where you'd almost be stupid not to listen and this is maybe where it's almost more appropriate
03:08to have the conversation that so many people have said the warriors need to have with steph
03:13tear it down i don't i don't think that the warriors need to have that conversation with steph because i
03:19don't think steph's mind is there but when things aren't going well people do that like go to the
03:25star and ask him if he wants to leave well i i don't know maybe you do check in on
03:32uh on on logan
03:34webb on that and i'm not saying he gets to dictate it but what are you really what are we
03:42doing here
03:42right what what you know logan's got two more years on his deal after this you could get at the
03:49deadline i mean a dangerous haul yeah a couple of really good prospects or a top prospect and maybe
03:57a player as well oh i'd keep going yeah see i understand now you're not just talking about
04:01putting an ace on the market you're talking about putting an ace on the market that's controllable for
04:06two more years at a manageable number yeah 23 and 24 respectively that is the kind of thing that a
04:12contender will fall over backwards he might be the prize of the entire trade deadline it's scoobal
04:20and it would then it would be web and i don't know if scoobal is available right but but i
04:26don't think
04:26that web is available or should be available but as this thing continues to plummet and you reach
04:33closer to your nadir your low point well then you're right like everybody has to be possibly
04:38shoppable well you're just so look you're so far away from actual competition number one and number
04:47two you've sort of signaled if you really look at what the giants have done let's like let's unpack
04:53this for a second let's look at what everyone wants to know what their identity is what's their plan
04:58right well i would argue if you really look at their plan um it's it's hard to figure out because
05:05what has happened since the start of this season does not match what was happening earlier right
05:12buster posey comes in bob melvin is the manager right we're signing chapman long term we're getting
05:19adamus on a long-term deal we're trading for devers bob melvin is the manager and and that signals to
05:27everybody with logan webb and robbie ray on the team we're trying to really win this thing now from
05:34the moment that all happened we suddenly switched and went down a road of bob melvin is fired we're
05:41spending tons on the international market and we've now got three if not more prospects that baseball
05:50really thinks are good but they're all like eight years old and they're all short stops correct i guess
05:56you could play well with the shift you could only play two short stops at once none of these dudes
06:00are buying beer for a while no and then you go hire a manager straight out of college knowing that
06:06he's
06:07going to have to go through a learning curve and so and then there's also bryce there's bryce eldridge
06:13you know what this is right and i said it before what is it it's two timelines oh boy buster
06:18posey has decided to steal from joe lakeup and company and it's two timelines or is it no timelines
06:25well it's two and i mean unfortunately neither the timelines we don't know about the future timeline
06:30these young pups could be really good in six to eight years but the front and center timeline is yeah
06:36invest in adamus and chapman endeavors and invest in robbie ray at least for one more year and you know
06:43invest invest invest and you're going for it meanwhile you bring in a rookie manager and a
06:49largely rookie coaching staff around him by the way which you look at message last night the pitching
06:55coach it's his first year as a big league pitching coach and you've got you know you're hitting coach
07:00it's the first time he has been a hitting coach in the bigs let me pitch something to you so
07:06what if
07:07this is a complete what if i'm just spitballing you get devers you get him on june 15th bob melvin's
07:16your manager you've already got chapman you've got adamus you've got ray and webb throwing at an
07:20all-star caliber level you got tyler rogers you got camila duval you've got all this stuff
07:26and um are you thinking to yourself last june we're gonna we're dogs we're gonna be championship
07:33we're going for this right okay devers arrives everything goes haywire you start losing a lot
07:41of baseball games heads you down a path where you end up firing your former giant manager right
07:49and uh look what happened from that moment on what is bust let's look at all the things buster
07:55posy has done so first of all you did next to nothing on the free agent market long term oh
08:05before that you you traded camilo duval which worked out right you traded yaz and tyler rogers so you get
08:12closer to the deadline so a month and a half goes by and you're like never mind we're not going
08:16for it
08:16anymore so you trade that's a great observation so you trade a bunch of people then you get to the
08:21end of the year you're about 500 again you fire bob melvin then you dive into the international
08:27pool in a way that you haven't as much in the past and you fill up your farm system with
08:3318 year olds
08:34that everybody's really excited about then it's time to hire a new manager you go get for the first
08:41time in the history of ever someone from college you have two open spots for starting pitchers you bring
08:48in kind of eh and eh both for a one-year deal and a two-year deal you've got all
08:53kinds of questions
08:54in the bullpen you hire a bunch of guys that are eh or hurt and showing up in maybe june
09:00or july
09:01you need a center fielder ah let's grab uh let's grab someone on a two-year deal on rather cheap
09:07there
09:08and also what do you know in the back of your mind collective bargaining agreement is up at the end
09:13of
09:13the year if did you mention a rise to that well sure so no i didn't but okay it fits
09:19that fits the
09:20whole your number one prospect is looking like he's raring to go but he's blocked at first base
09:24right and he's blocked at dh unless casey schmidt can play left but then you bring him up anyway even
09:30though there's nowhere to put him you bring him up just because it's like bring him up you bring him
09:35up though and you say you're not going to play him all the time so you bring him up and
09:39you're just
09:39going to part-time him until he i don't know he plays so well that he can't get out of
09:44the lineup
09:44now doesn't it feel like they grabbed devers and then a month and a half later they went oof let's
09:52let's let's do this completely differently um it almost feels like right there at the end of july
09:59last year they decided let's get ready for uh 2028 2028 2028 because 2027 may or may not exist
10:11and that's a fact i believe in it but my brain works that way oh you're talking next year
10:17may not exist there will be a lockout i but the season is a maybe 2026 you're looking at it
10:26going
10:26like yeah it'd be great to compete but i don't know if you've met the dodgers here these are the
10:30dodgers say hi to the dodgers nobody's beating that team so let's start getting ready for 2028
10:38devers was like uh that first night in the hangover i mean stew got a face tattoo and you wound
10:47up with a
10:47baby and zach galifianakis roofied everyone you wake up after devers you're like oh man what a what a night
10:54that was full regret and a face tattoo and all of a sudden someone important is missing
11:01it's rafael devers ability to hit a fastball we can't find it anywhere it's the closer who's missing
