00:00Now back to 95.7 The Game's Blue and Gold Summit,
00:04live from Jack's Restaurant and Bar in Pleasant Hill.
00:08Yeah, baby!
00:11Yeah!
00:14Blue and Gold Summit, 2026.
00:19Jack's Restaurant and Bar in Pleasant Hill.
00:23Thanks to our partners, Ashby Lumber, your trusted building partner.
00:27Thank you to Jack's.
00:28Everybody enjoying the meals out there?
00:30Everybody enjoying the drinks?
00:33We're having some fun.
00:35Joe and Joe from the morning.
00:37Steini and Goo from the midday.
00:39Willard and Dibbs all with you all together,
00:42talking out a Warrior season that has already turned in ways
00:46that we wouldn't have expected a week and a half ago.
00:48And so that's what I kind of want to throw out to everybody.
00:51We threw this out the other day,
00:53and it's a layered question based on the way this season has started.
00:570-3, and it felt totally hopeless, and then they haven't lost since.
01:03But because we're so focused on Yaxl, what he looks like in his development,
01:10Steph, his management and the way he looks,
01:13I don't know how much time we've all spent with.
01:16So where is this season going?
01:19Are they good?
01:21Are they sort of good?
01:23Kind of good?
01:24Really good?
01:26Maybe not still?
01:27What do you all think?
01:28Are they good?
01:28I've got an analogy.
01:30All right.
01:30This is a classic Lazy River team.
01:33You sit in the Lazy River, and you see where the inner tube takes you.
01:37Zero expectations.
01:38You might end up back on shore.
01:40You might end up in the middle.
01:42You know when they have those bars in the middle of, like, Cancun?
01:45You go to one of those resorts.
01:46You might end up there.
01:48You might end up somewhere else.
01:50Goo, you know what I'm talking about.
01:51I do.
01:51That's how I fall.
01:52That sounds nice, by the way.
01:53That sounds nice.
01:53This is a crazy river season.
01:54And to me, like, you have Steph Curry,
01:57so you've got your margarita or your Mai Tai or whatever.
01:59You're feeling good.
02:00You're trying not to get too much.
02:02You know, I got sunscreened really bad yesterday.
02:04I mean, I burnt like crazy.
02:06I'm trying to have that happen again.
02:08But, like, to me, I think that's the beauty of this year.
02:11I think the championship or bust mentality has actually been a detriment
02:14to kind of, like, the overall excitement for me,
02:18for me individually, covering this team.
02:20Okay.
02:21It's a great way to put it.
02:21This is a similar subject that almost brought Shasky and Goo to blows
02:26at the Niner Summit.
02:27What?
02:29Goo, are you good with, I just, you know, lazy river.
02:32Enjoy the ride.
02:32Let's just enjoy the ride.
02:34No.
02:35And I double back and have since apologized for that
02:38because it has been an enjoyable ride for the Niners.
02:41But my take is, and I'll keep it 100,
02:43I said a successful season for the Warriors to me, fellas,
02:47was could you make the playoffs not via the play in.
02:51And now I'm getting so excited and goosebumps on,
02:55is this a strength in numbers 3.0 possibly?
02:58Because Spadoni hit it on the nail for me.
03:01When steps out the game, I like what I see from the others,
03:05guys that can put it on the floor and create their own shot.
03:08We got some size now.
03:10So, Willard, I'm going to get greedy.
03:12I won't save it, but I'm starting to say,
03:15can we cause ruckus in the offs?
03:17Because I'm starting to assume we're going to be a part of the playoffs.
03:20And going in, I didn't think that.
03:23Yeah.
03:23And after three games, I'll be honest,
03:25I was going to the website Tankathon.
03:27Oh, look at him.
03:28Not that they were going to tank,
03:30but you can get into like the mock draft and the simulator
03:32and you can see who the Warriors might take once they land in the lottery.
03:36And we did this, guys, about are they good?
03:39And for me, being good means you're not in the play-in.
03:43You're a top six seed.
03:44Yeah.
03:44And so I ran the numbers, Joes, and I looked at the last five years,
03:48you need 48 wins to be outside of the play-in.
03:53So right now, they're on a pace to win 50 or 51.
03:56So right now, yeah, they're good.
03:59Are they going to win 50 games?
04:00They're allowed to, as Willard says.
04:02But at the very least, they're going to be, I think, top of the play-in.
04:06They're going to be a threat.
04:07Who knows who comes back?
04:09So Mark was asking me, are they good?
04:12And I said, yeah.
04:14A little bit of a hesitant guy.
04:16Yeah, Jerry is still completely out for me,
04:19and I lean a little bit more toward what Shasky,
04:21what you were just saying.
04:23Like, let's see where this goes,
04:24because I also think this is two seasons in one at a minimum.
04:28Yes.
04:28We had said all along, the Warriors have even said,
04:32let's see where we're at when Jimmy gets back.
04:35And the challenge is going to be to win enough games
04:38to be in an attack position when that happens.
04:41What's happened over the last five games is a wonderful development.
04:47But does that mean that they won't struggle at times?
04:51They've got a long road trip next week.
04:53Are they going to struggle until Jimmy gets there?
04:56Is there another injury that we don't know about?
04:59We've settled into this, like, okay, Steph's just going to mostly be there.
05:03We don't know these things yet.
05:04So, like, I'm not convinced yet, even though it's like, I mean,
05:09it's a wonderful development.
05:11But, Mark, let me flip that on its head, and I'm going to ask Joe Spadoni.
05:14Is the West as good as we thought it was a month ago?
05:18No, it's not.
05:19No.
05:19Joe, get in there.
05:19Well, the Oklahoma City Thunder, by virtue of their two major injuries,
05:23are not as good as they were.
05:25That's just a fact.
05:25I don't care how good Shea is.
05:27He could be an MVP this year.
05:28That team is now damaged, which sucks because I don't want to see him even get hurt.
05:31That's another conversation for another day.
05:33There's just too many injuries right now to some of the biggest stars.
05:36And ironically, it's not the Warriors right now, although Jimmy is out.
05:41But we know about this team.
05:42They're a stubbed toe from Steph Curry away from what?
05:45That's what happened last year, and I don't want to speak that.
05:47This is the Blue and Gold Summit.
05:48We're all excited, all positive energy.
05:50But this is why I think you can get a little bit more excited.
05:54To your point, Jasky, it's wide open.
05:56So you can start dreaming if you're a fan a little bit.
05:58Do I think they're going to win the title?
06:00I'm not saying that right now.
06:01But if it's a one-team conference, we all think who?
06:04The Spurs?
06:05They're a tier above everyone else right now.
06:07They're a Victor Wemby injury away themselves.
06:09Exactly, right?
06:10Although the game he had last night was insane.
06:12I hate to say that.
06:12But it's true.
06:14It's true.
06:14The Spurs?
06:15Stiney, why are you shaking your head?
06:16Well, I don't necessarily agree.
06:18Yeah, if Wemby Nyama goes down for the year, they're not going to win a title.
06:22But if Wemby Nyama goes down for a few months, they're going to make the playoffs.
06:26Sure, no doubt.
06:26I don't think the Warriors are in that boat.
06:28No doubt.
06:29Like, Minnesota's going to lose Edwards for two months.
06:31They're going to make the playoffs.
06:32Portland's on the come.
06:33Houston, big time.
06:36Yeah, if the question is, are they a good team?
06:39No, not yet.
06:40They're not a good team yet.
06:43There's some good signs.
06:44They can be very competitive.
06:46But we've got to see how they react to, you know, Yaxxles, if he's got bumps in the road coming.
06:53We've got to see how Steph deals with, you know, maybe a little knee soreness and he's going to miss,
07:00you know, five, six games.
07:01We've got to see if Pajemski is, for the season, playing on a different level.
07:10Like, Pajemski's playing on a different level than he has so far for the Warriors.
07:15Can he put another eight, ten, twelve games together like that?
07:20So, yeah, not yet.
07:22They're not a good team.
07:23But if they play to their potential, you see that they're a lot better than you thought they were going
07:28to be without Yaxxle.
07:29Would you say Memphis is a good team?
07:30No.
07:31I'm not yet.
07:32I'm with it.
07:33Honestly, it's hard to judge anybody outside of the known commodities.
07:36I agree.
07:37Oklahoma City, a couple big injuries, they're still good.
07:39San Antonio, that's a good team.
07:41And I would even look at the Lakers and say that's a good team because they have more known commodities.
07:46I agree.
07:47But let me throw this to you guys.
07:48And I get it.
07:49If Steph goes down for months at a time, yeah, they're cooked.
07:52Saran.
07:52But the non-Steph minutes have never looked better since when?
07:58I mean, we have to acknowledge that.
08:00And look, that doesn't mean much because if he is out two months, they are in trouble.
08:05But you have to feel good about that, no?
08:08Absolutely.
08:09And even when Steph is playing, like a couple of the games recently where they're closing with Yaxxle, Steph's got
08:15a towel and he's doing the old Jack Haley thing from the Laker days.
08:19He and Draymond are sitting down just cheering this guy on.
08:22I don't even think it's just the non-Steph minutes.
08:24Let's also talk about the non-Steph games.
08:27The Phoenix game was great.
08:29Absolutely.
08:29They still want that game.
08:30There are certain games where.
08:32Brandon Williams, man.
08:33I just think about even the thought process of a fan on the way into one of those games.
08:38Last year when they would announce that Steph was out, you're thinking to yourself, okay, here come the baby dubs.
08:45And it was sort of a different watching experience.
08:47You were like, let's see if somebody can stand out a little bit.
08:50You're at seven.
08:51Right?
08:51Something like if they were still in the game in the fourth quarter, you were like, this is cute.
08:55Look at them.
08:56They're still in the game.
08:57Now Steph can miss a game and you can still at least have a thought process of like, let's sit
09:03down and see if we can win this basketball game.
09:05And I remember you were, you know, you had some energy on the Warriors wheel.
09:08And I remember I was sitting right next to you when you were like, you cannot do nothing.
09:12And the reason I bring that up is an organization in this offseason via free agency.
09:17And I know I've been one, I've been critical of Mike D, but it's time we give them some credit.
09:22I mean, they had to believe behind closed doors, Brandon Williams of the world, Potts taking the jump, bringing Bassey
09:28back.
09:29Like it's all Guy Santos.
09:31It's all starting to come together.
09:32And I'm not just up here at the summit whispering sweet nothing about the Warriors.
09:36When Steph's out, it's still enjoyable.
09:39Yeah, man.
09:40To Butch's point, it ain't been that way since Barbosa, Ian Clark.
09:44You know, that era iteration of the Warriors.
09:46Well, I mean, do y'all want to have a conversation about the job that Mike Dunleavy has done?
09:50Yeah, let's start with this.
09:51First, I'd like to say that everything you're talking about with Curry and how they're going to play without him
09:57and how they play in the non-step minutes.
09:59Like the beauty of that is that can be tracked.
10:02Last year they were 13 and 26 without Steph Curry.
10:05Yikes.
10:06You know, I'm not saying, like you can figure out what they were.
10:10And I'm sure during the Duran era, the games he missed, they probably were pretty good.
10:14You know, you're better than they are now.
10:16So, like, that's what I love about that, too, with Curry, at least.
10:19It's a tangible thing you can measure wins and loss-wise.
10:23This is the Blue and Gold Summit at Jack's Restaurant and Bar in Pleasant Hill,
10:27brought to you by Ashby Lumber, your trusted building partner.
10:31And the gang is all here.
10:33The Morning Roast with Joe Shasky, Joe Spadoni, Steini and Goo, Willard and Dibbs, all with you.
10:38And thank you for all of you wonderful people being here today as we talk this out.
10:43All right, what did you want to say?
10:43No, I was just like, like, Dunleavy has nailed a lot of picks.
10:47The transaction on the Kaminga situation, which, look, look, look, it is what it is.
10:52You inherited that situation, and you guys sat on it for too long.
10:57You traded him for Kristoff's.
10:59Kristoff's then gets re-signed in the offseason.
11:02That whole thing, that whole line, going back to Kaminga, has been a net negative.
11:07Now, am I nitpicking?
11:08No, not really, because I think it's an invaluable, like, on a team without 60 million in Jimmy,
11:13that 20 million dollar piece for Kristoff's.
11:16That's fair, man.
11:17That could have been Rui Hachimuri, for example, hypothetically.
11:20I mispronounced his name.
11:21It could have been five or six different guys, and yet they stuck with Kristoff's.
11:26Couldn't they use him?
11:27Couldn't they use the money, the player?
11:29Like, it drives me nuts.
11:30No, well, it's so true, because we don't talk about that.
11:33This was supposed to be a starter.
11:34Yes.
11:34Like, this guy was supposed to be your starting center night one.
11:38Exactly.
11:38And we haven't even, like, brought his name up.
11:40Now, it's out of sight, out of mind.
11:41An hour.
11:42He's getting veneers over in Spain or something.
11:44I don't know what he's doing.
11:45Oh, yeah.
11:45But it's crazy to me, this whole thing.
11:47Because of the emergence of Yaxl and them winning now, we don't talk about it.
11:52But if we're going to give Mike Donlevy credit for Yaxl, we also have to give him somewhat of a
11:57demerit to your point.
11:58There's no doubt.
11:59There's no doubt.
12:00And by the way, it's not a mistake.
12:02It's two mistakes.
12:03Yes.
12:03It's two mistakes.
12:05Because it is hanging on to Jonathan Kaminga too long.
12:09And it's not even about Jonathan.
12:11It's about the organizational philosophy.
12:13If you're not going to back him.
12:15Exactly.
12:15Then move him.
12:16That's fine.
12:17Or if you're going to back him, then back him.
12:19So that's mistake one.
12:20Then, once you wait too long, you get Kristaps.
12:23I understand that's all you can get in return.
12:25But the re-signing of him this offseason.
12:28You fail for the okey-doke.
12:29Well, I don't even know if it was an okey-doke.
12:31You rolled the dice and it came up snake eyes.
12:34They said, we're going for talent over availability.
12:37And that burned him.
12:39They're not getting the talent.
12:39Well, I mean, I got to disagree with one.
12:43Joe, you said, one of you, just Spadone said, you know, they expected him to be a starter.
12:49They did.
12:49Really?
12:50On night one.
12:51On night two.
12:52So he's your starter and you gave him a two-year, non-guaranteed contract worth $23 million.
13:00That's a bench player.
13:02That's a contract for a bench player.
13:03Well, no.
13:04The first year he was supposed to get paid.
13:05It was basically a one-year contract.
13:07Okay.
13:07They gave him the money.
13:08Okay.
13:08He didn't show up.
13:09But they gave him bench money.
13:10That's what Stiney said.
13:11No, but they expected him to be a starter.
13:13Yeah.
13:14For how many games?
13:15It doesn't matter.
13:16They thought he was going to be a starter on this team, right?
13:18But if they thought he was going to be a 70-game player, he would have gotten $50 million.
13:22For sure.
13:23But still, at least start the year off is what I'm saying.
13:26He didn't even show up for training camp.
13:28The Warriors.
13:28The Warriors tried to split the difference.
13:31Yes.
13:31So, did they want him to start on this team?
13:33Yes.
13:34But what were they actually after?
13:36Playing time.
13:37Maintaining their flexibility.
13:39I don't think the Warriors, to Joe Shasky's point earlier, they didn't know Yaxa was going
13:43to be this good this quickly.
13:45I don't think the Warriors were all that activated by the idea of winning this year.
13:50It wasn't necessarily always going to be about this year.
13:53They wanted Steph to get back on his feet, make a good pick, and then set themselves
13:58up for the future with maximum flexibility.
14:01If you go get a different guy, not Chris Stops, a better big man, remember what big men make
14:06in this league?
14:07Quentin Post is making 10.
14:09So, if you want to sign a good one, you're signing one for multiple years because those
14:14guys have options, and I don't think the Warriors wanted to do that.
14:17And I think that they rolled the dice on him being able to play 30 to 40 games, and when
14:22he played last year, he was really good.
14:24And as much as we all should be looking at Dunleavy and shaking our head, I'm still going
14:29to hold out a little bit of hope that between now and the deadline, he can actually do something
14:33with this dead contract because, you know, they may not actually end up paying him.
14:38And I think you said this yesterday, Willard, that if they don't have to pay him, then they
14:42can trade him, and the team that acquires him, they also don't have to pay him.
14:45And he's not even fighting it.
14:46He doesn't even care that they're not paying him.
14:48Did you see that?
14:49Like, Sam Amick, the athletic guy.
14:50I tried to run material Shasky yesterday.
14:53We had Steve Kerr on.
14:54This is ridiculous.
14:54He asked him about Chris Stapps, and I said, now you have the chance to, for the first time
14:58ever, to have a guy be DNP Teeth.
15:03And it landed that way then.
15:05Did he say don't do that?
15:06He said nothing.
15:11Dibs knew that it was nothing.
15:12And he likes my material.
15:14Normally I get laughs at it, Steve.
15:15Normally-ish, anyway.
15:17Crickets.
15:17He at least gives you a comfort laugh, usually.
15:20Can we explore something?
15:21Stiney, you didn't think that they signed him to be a starter?
15:24I think they signed him with, not necessarily starter, but how many minutes can he play during
15:30the course of a year?
15:31Okay.
15:31All right, there's 82 games.
15:34Yeah.
15:34Okay.
15:35He won't.
15:35Let's just automatically drop him to 41.
15:39Seriously.
15:40I mean.
15:40No, it's true.
15:41Let's drop him to 41.
15:42This is insane.
15:42You think he could give us 20 minutes a night, 41 games.
15:46Well, that's 800 to 1,000 minutes.
15:48And he hasn't done that in four or five years.
15:50I'm like.
15:51And that's worth 20 years?
15:52That's what I'm saying, Gu.
15:54Like, I mean, I get it.
15:57Yeah, ideally he would have started some games, but I think it was more they looked at how
16:03many minutes can he play at the center position?
16:06Yeah, but if we're going to lose our minds, I'm just talking about Warrior fans, pulling
16:10our hair out on every young player who's diminishing the final years of Steph Curry, this Kristoff
16:16thing is a joke.
16:17Yeah, it is.
16:18It's a joke.
16:18Nobody can say anything.
16:19I agree, man.
16:20It's a joke.
16:20And the way Curry's face was at the podium when they asked him about it and Steve's face,
16:27you could tell.
16:28He never looked that pissed off to answer a question about a player on the team.
16:34I can't remember the last time.
16:35Could you argue that had there been no Steph Curry, they would have told Kristaps Porzingis
16:41to hit the bridge?
16:42Of course.
16:43I think Horford doesn't come back.
16:44I think GP2 doesn't come back.
16:46That's true.
16:46I think maybe Anthony Melton.
16:48You know, why would you have seven under six three guys?
16:51I think you got to put that into the equation.
16:53If you went down that road, then that's the road where you end up and why do you have
16:57Steph?
16:57Yeah, exactly.
16:58I mean, so that's, I think they were riding the fence.
17:01There's no two ways about it.
17:02Did they want him to be a starter?
17:04Yes.
17:04Did they also protect themselves because they knew this might happen?
17:08Also, yes.
17:09I didn't think that they thought that this might happen.
17:12They knew it could.
17:13Something health related.
17:14Something.
17:15I do believe that they at least would have thought, okay, you're fighting the pots or
17:19whatever he has, but you're around and you're going to try to make it back.
17:22You got to camp and he said, deuces, I'm going to Spain to get new teeth.
17:27Like, I don't think that they had that on their bingo card.
17:31I don't think they thought it could be that bad, but they clearly protected themselves against
17:38something happening.
17:38They, they, like, I mean, Steve even said it to us yesterday.
17:42Did we think he would just ghost us the night before camp?
17:45No.
17:46Did we think that this could be challenging throughout the year?
17:49Yeah, absolutely.
17:50There's still a void on that roster.
17:52Sure.
17:53No doubt.
17:53It would be a bigger story had they been struggling, Goo, obviously.
17:56If this team had like three, four, five losses, then it would be kind of like the Brandon
18:00Iyuk thing.
18:01Had the Niners been losing and he didn't get anything to the wide receiver, maybe it
18:04would have been, been a big deal, but they're winning.
18:06So it's out of sight, out of mind.
18:07We don't need you.
18:08Kick rocks.
18:09Yeah.
18:09And maybe, and maybe they'll, they'll stop winning like this and it'll come back to the
18:13four.
18:15You know, what if they overachieve and win 47 or 48 games and they're a six seed, you
18:23know, then it is going to be smaller potatoes.
18:25Yeah.
18:26I mean, the other side of the Dunleavy conversation with that now out on the table,
18:31is obviously, um, the draft picks have largely been all, and this is all of them.
18:37They've all been as good as you can hope for from that draft position.
18:42That's the way I would say it.
18:43And the G league has actually netted you useful players.
18:46No doubt.
18:47You know, we can talk about Pat Spencer.
18:48They found him out of nowhere.
18:49Got an NBA contract.
18:51They found Guy Santos out of nowhere.
18:54Now he has an NBA contract.
18:56They've done a good job in that direction.
18:57He's got a contract.
18:59Yeah.
18:59And I think that, that those inside the NBA, we as fans don't love this, but I remember
19:05when Ramona came on with us a couple of weeks ago, she goes, I know nobody wants to hear
19:10this, but the Warriors are in the best position of any non-championship contender in the whole
19:15NBA.
19:16Like how often in the last seven years have we talked about a team go into an off season
19:23with this kind of space?
19:25Nobody has any space anymore.
19:27That's why Kaminga and the restricted guys couldn't get a deal, right?
19:30No one ever has any space.
19:32The Warriors finally do.
19:33I don't know what they'll do with it, but they got it.
19:35Well, I think that last part is important.
19:36I don't know what they'll do with it.
19:37How much faith do you have in Dunleavy that he's going to do the right things with the
19:41financial flexibility that people were rolling their eyes with him?
19:44She did.
19:45Can you repeat that?
19:46That they are in the best, they are best positioned going forward.
19:51Financially.
19:51Financially of any non-championship contender.
19:56She loves the position they're in.
19:57They're in what you would call a power position if and when any star becomes available.
20:05I got to give that some more thought.
20:09Give it some thought.
20:10But what she's also saying is, hey, Gu, they ain't a contender right now.
20:16Oh, yeah.
20:16No way, no how, don't even think about it.
20:19I'll say this.
20:20Not every dream.
20:21It's Guru Math.
20:21In my mind, I know what I'm watching.
20:2332 quarters, eight games, right?
20:25Did I get that right?
20:26Yeah, I did.
20:27I like what I see, and this thing is headed in the right direction.
20:30And we can sit here and cry and ding Dunleavy on the Porzingis.
20:35But the train, the Warrior train moves on down the road.
20:38And at a bus stop down there is Jimmy Butler and Moses Moody.
20:42And when we pick them up, man, there's no telling that this team keeps this up.
20:46What did you say in the caddy?
20:47They're on a 50-win clip, Gu.
20:49I'm just saying, I'm a dreamer.
20:51You keep that up.
20:52And, hey, Jimmy, get on the bus.
20:54And they keep going forward.
20:55There's no telling where this thing is going.
20:56Are we on a train or are we on a bus?
20:58Planes train?
20:59You said we were on a train, but the train was going to stop.
21:03It's a bus stop.
21:04Let my material do what it does.
21:05Can I ask you guys a question?
21:06Yeah, you're getting on my nerves.
21:07What's your question?
21:07What happens if February comes around and Jimmy wants some extension?
21:12Oh, man.
21:12How do you approach that?
21:13That's a no.
21:14Yeah.
21:14Say, I'm with you.
21:15That's a no.
21:16I'm not committing any more money to him.
21:18They only won 50 million.
21:20And how selfish would that be if this team is like a three, if they've got a winning record?
21:25Like, I think that matters.
21:27He left Miami.
21:28Yeah, but don't get mad at that until he does it to you.
21:31Like, he hasn't done that yet, so I'm not going to put that on.
21:34It's in the file, but yeah.
21:35I'm going to send him to Missouri, the show me state.
21:39And then come June, we'll talk about more money.
21:42And he's been around.
21:43I feel like that juju is.
21:45See, he's around, you know.
21:46Why do you think that is?
21:47I know.
21:48Because he loves Yaks.
21:49Yes, exactly.
21:50All right.
21:51It's the Blue and Gold Summit at Jack's Restaurant and Barb in Pleasant Hill.
21:56It's brought to you by Ask Me Lumber, the trusted building partner.
21:59We are also brought to you by Fremont Bank.
22:03Here for you, here for good.
22:04The gang's all here, and it's only halftime.
22:07Coming up next, a very important, must-have, Draymond Green conversation.
22:14We will do that next.
22:16You, the audience, will participate in that.
22:19That is all coming up here on the Summit.
22:21Jack's Restaurant and Barb 95-7, the game.
