00:00Are the Giants back?
00:03I mean, sure.
00:05Here's what I mean. Here's what I mean.
00:07I honestly think there's a little bit of a mind bleep going on here with the Giants.
00:12Okay, they won another baseball game again today.
00:14They just completed a 4-2 road trip against the same two teams
00:19that embarrassed them here at Oracle Park just last week.
00:234-2. Should have been 5-1.
00:25They blew that stupid thing in Pittsburgh on Monday.
00:28But they're 4-2, and I always have a saying, and I used it on the crossover yesterday,
00:34don't talk to me until you're over 500.
00:37Well, I guess now you can talk to me because the Giants are over 500 again.
00:43That may sound silly because as quickly as Friday night, maybe they won't be over 500 anymore.
00:48But they are, and it's hitting me in a certain way because they're off tomorrow.
00:52I'll spotlight one thing to use as an example of more.
00:56However, you have an off day tomorrow, and in theory, the Mets, who are swooning,
01:02they've lost four in a row.
01:04Now, you're five out.
01:06That's not good.
01:07That's not close.
01:08I don't think the Giants, quote, have a great chance.
01:11But I also think you have to navigate this idea of,
01:15well, we're taking a look at some of our young guys with,
01:19dude, we're trying to do everything we can to win the baseball game.
01:23And while I don't think the Giants still have a great or even a decent shot at the playoffs,
01:27I do think you're still in a spot where you have to put your best foot forward.
01:31And let me just go ahead and use this as an example.
01:35On Friday night, is Kai Wei Tang putting your best foot forward?
01:41Spoiler alert, no.
01:42Yeah, I don't think so.
01:43No, it's not.
01:45And so that's what I wonder about Giants fans.
01:48And 888-957-9570 is the number.
01:51How do you navigate this?
01:53How do you navigate this?
01:54Oh, we're taking a look at some of the young guys.
01:56Sort of has this vibe of like, look, we'd like to win, but if we don't, so what?
02:01Because we're taking a look at the young guys.
02:03Versus, you're game over 500, you're five out, there's still almost two months to go.
02:09I think you got, especially with the Nationals coming into town,
02:12like, dude, you got to go try to win those games.
02:15And I would argue with an off day tomorrow,
02:18it absolutely gives you the opportunity to skip the spot in the rotation,
02:23get you that much closer to Roop's return,
02:26or do a bullpen game, or do something.
02:29Kai Wei Tang has thrown 14 big league innings in his career.
02:33He's given up 17 runs, all of them earned.
02:37Yeah, exactly.
02:38How about, don't be on the team right now, we're still trying to win games.
02:42Exactly.
02:43That's what I would say.
02:44I mean, you could skip a guy and roll the rotation forward,
02:47and the one I'm looking at, and I think he pitched yesterday as Blade Tidwell.
02:51Great point.
02:52He won't be ready to go on Friday, but you could roll everyone up a day,
02:55and you could slot Tidwell in where he normally would be,
02:59which I guess would be Saturday, and you could have a look at him.
03:03And this is nothing against Kai Wei Tang other than to say,
03:06I don't think that he's very good.
03:08And I've watched him in AAA, and I've watched him in the big leagues.
03:11I don't think that he is a future rotational piece,
03:14so why would you want to just roll him out again to see what you have?
03:19And I was actually surprised that they added him to the 40-man
03:22when they did at the trade deadline.
03:25I thought that that would be a move that they would not make, but they did,
03:28and so you tried it, and it didn't work again.
03:31So if you're really still trying to think that you're in it,
03:35then you don't throw Kai Wei Tang again.
03:37You've got Washington this weekend, and then San Diego's coming in
03:41for a three-gamer on Monday, and you can start tomorrow, not tomorrow, sorry, Friday.
03:48You can go Wizenhunt, Verlander, Webb this weekend,
03:52and everyone will be on full rest.
03:55And then you can do Ray on Monday.
03:58And I don't know where Roop is on all of this, but, like, maybe he's back
04:04by the time you get into next week.
04:07And if he's not, you've got options.
04:10You've got options.
04:11You could Tristan Beck for a few innings or whatever.
04:14And, again, if you don't, if your bullpen gets taxed because there's no off day again
04:20until the following Thursday, you're going to have six games and six nights.
04:23If things get taxed, you can Kai Wei Tang yourself next Tuesday or Wednesday or whatever.
04:29But I don't know, man.
04:31Like, I'm not.
04:32And Grant McRae is another one.
04:34Like, okay, and Encarnacion got hurt today, so Matos is going to come back up, I'm sure.
04:40And that's fine.
04:42But you know who used to play in the outfield before he got transitioned to first base?
04:47Dom Smith.
04:48Dom Smith is a professional major league outfielder.
04:51And I would consider the idea, if you win a few more games in a row,
04:56with the option of Devers being over there at first base
05:00and Dom Smith being on the team, and by the way, he got the clutch hit again today.
05:05It was the game-winning hit as a pinch hitter in the ninth inning.
05:09All of these things are options that I would look at rather than,
05:14well, we're not going to look at the young guys.
05:16That's fine.
05:17I don't want you to not, quote, take a look at the young guys.
05:21But if you're ever in a spot, Bo Mel, where you're like, well, no, that guy over there
05:25would give me a better chance to win this game, at least in early August, I'm going to do that.
05:31And this series against San Diego next week, that's the big bazinga.
05:35Okay, you've got a bad team coming in this weekend.
05:39Hopefully you win at least two out of three.
05:41And then your last gasp to really fight for something is this three games with San Diego starting Monday.
05:49And you've got four games after that with San Diego.
05:51So seven of your next 13 are San Diego.
05:53And I said to Evan on Monday, I need 11-5 in the next 16, including five of seven against San Diego.
06:00So go ahead and handle Washington, and then you get into San Diego,
06:04and you can really start to think whether or not this is still real.
06:07All right, so 8-8, 9-5-7, 9-5-70, and so far a couple things on the table.
06:13How hard do you still want the Giants to go for this versus playing young dudes?
