00:05It's the final and we're throwing our remaining two designers into the lion's den.
00:11Literally. Transforming cottages at Longleat.
00:14Would you like to meet our residents?
00:16Yay!
00:25Look Alan, it's so beautiful.
00:28I know, I love that mane. So much volume. I wish I had that with my hair.
00:34No, not the lion. It's lair.
00:37Look at the use of colour, the natural textures. There's not a fake plant in sight.
00:42Oh Michelle, you really are wild about interiors.
00:45Welcome to the final.
00:51Eight weeks ago, ten novice interior designers put themselves forward to realise their dream.
00:57To go pro and win a life changing prize.
01:01Wow.
01:02That is amazing!
01:04They've put their design skills to the test on everything from beach huts.
01:08Come and get me juicy cockles.
01:09To shops.
01:11Oh!
01:13Come on!
01:15Even Royal Navy mess decks.
01:17Oh no!
01:19After tackling a Premier League football stadium last week.
01:23Wow, this is a good view.
01:25Emily was given the red card.
01:28I mean I'm gutted, obviously, but what a ride.
01:31Now just Leah.
01:33Woohoo!
01:34And Sophie Remain.
01:37And the biggest design project yet.
01:40The winner of Interior Design Masters is...
01:55And then there were two.
01:56And then there were two.
01:58I can't believe it's just two of us walking down this hill.
02:03It's the final!
02:06Featuring me!
02:09The dream was always to be an interior designer.
02:12To wake up every day and do something I love.
02:14Being in the final, I feel like maybe I could do this.
02:17Forever.
02:18Are you excited or terrified for this?
02:20I'm excited.
02:21I am.
02:22A whole holiday cottage at Longleat is going to be so much fun.
02:27Longleat Safari Park.
02:28I mean, it's animals.
02:30I've got license to do animal print.
02:32Finally!
02:33It's finally my time to shine.
02:36Rock and roll maximalist Sophie has showcased her love of animal print since week one.
02:42Who doesn't love a bit of zebra print?
02:44And by week two, her lime wash finish and pattern clashing in the castle won her standout space.
02:51The real strength that Sophie has brought to her challenges is her beautiful painterly eye for colour and texture.
02:58She comes in with a background as a specialist painter.
03:01We haven't got enough words.
03:02I'm stressed.
03:03I'm so stressed.
03:04The only thing holding Sophie back is her lack of confidence.
03:07When she has a little bit of a wobble, then everything slightly crashes down.
03:11I honestly don't go any direction because I just don't know.
03:14But when she can pick herself up and believe in herself, I think she's capable of amazing things.
03:19In Shops Week, she pulled it together to win standout space with Leah.
03:25And in the semi-final, Sophie's back!
03:28Achieved her goal.
03:30Hi kids, I'm a finalist.
03:32Get out of town!
03:35I'm hoping to see that Sophie just leans into the amazing designer that she has the capacity to be.
03:40I mean, we're going to Longleat.
03:42She's surrounded by animals.
03:44This has got to be her happy place.
03:47Leah is also a maximalist.
03:49Oh my God, it looks so nice.
03:51And from week one has gone big with botanicals.
03:55Oh, look.
03:55Like an authentic lemon tree.
03:57She's used dried flowers in all her schemes.
04:00Very distracted by the old frou-frou thing.
04:02But has learned to edit.
04:04We've made a big decision to take the flowers down.
04:08Leah's work has been strongest when she really does lean into her roots, that sense of conviviality and family.
04:14The whole kitchen area will be here with a massive island.
04:18You're so Italian.
04:19And that helped her win her first standout space.
04:24I've always wanted to hear Michelle show my name and I heard it.
04:29Leah's ambitious designs have pushed her traits to the max.
04:33I'm not happy with the bar.
04:34I've adapted the design about 60 times today.
04:37But in the end, it paid off and won her replace in the final.
04:41This to me is a real triumph of the space.
04:44Both Leah and Sophie have an enormous amount of talent.
04:48So I just hope they bring all the lessons that they've learned over all the previous challenges and just go
04:54for it.
04:55Here are our finalists.
04:57Come and sit down on the sofa.
04:59I've even plumped the cushions for you.
05:02Lovely service.
05:03How are you feeling?
05:07Pinch me moment?
05:08Yeah.
05:09Up for grabs is a game-changing prize.
05:12The winner will be working with Next to create their own line of homeware.
05:17How amazing is that?
05:19Yeah.
05:19Incredible.
05:20Imagine having your name next to that.
05:23All that stands between you and the prize is one challenge.
05:2832 lions, 5 rhinos, 3 gazelle and a pack of wolves.
05:32You're off to Longleat to transform two holiday cottages.
05:38Magnificent Longleat House in Wiltshire is a stately home surrounded by 9,000 acres, including the famous Safari Park.
05:47There are many period rental properties on the estate.
05:51The finalists will transform two of them.
05:54Either the Grade 2 Georgian cottage called The Island or the Victorian Stolls Farmhouse.
06:02Pick a key.
06:06I've got The Island.
06:08OK.
06:08And you must have?
06:10The Stolls Farmhouse.
06:11The Stolls Farmhouse.
06:12So do you have any advice for them to clinch that win?
06:15You just have to believe in yourself and know that you deserve to be here and go do your thing.
06:22The guest judge this week is a designer who is at one with wildlife.
06:27He dresses like a peacock and can talk the hind legs off a hyena.
06:30It's Laurence Llewellyn Bowen.
06:33Good luck.
06:34See you at Longleat.
06:35See you there.
06:37There's definitely two angles that can be taken.
06:40The beautiful architecture in the gardens.
06:42Or you take inspiration from the animals in the park.
06:45This is just my dream brief.
06:48If I can believe in myself and trust myself, I could potentially have the edge.
06:54But, I know, Leah's full of surprises.
07:04After a week of prepping designs, our finalists arrive at Longleat.
07:10I mean, this is giving final vibes.
07:12It's a fitting setting.
07:13Very grand.
07:14To soak up the historic estate and gardens.
07:18Look, there's the house.
07:20Wow.
07:20Oh my God, it's stunning.
07:23I love all the hedges.
07:25Botanicals, dude.
07:26And meet the exotic residents.
07:29You're looking at monkeys!
07:32Zebras!
07:34All the prints.
07:36All the prints.
07:37Now they have just three days and £7,000 to create a winning holiday cottage.
07:44Battle of the maximalists.
07:46With the help of two familiar cheeky monkeys.
07:52Fellow designer Ben is back to lend Sophie his upcycling expertise.
07:57I'm going to be trying to keep Sophie calm as possible.
08:00Do all the jobs that she needs me to do.
08:02And work as hard as I possibly can.
08:03And sewing whiz Johnny is reuniting with Leah.
08:07Oh, I'm so excited to be back with Leah.
08:10I'm so proud of her and I will do anything to help her win it.
08:14Shall we go and check the cottage out?
08:15Yeah, come on.
08:19Each holiday let is a unique period property.
08:22Sophie's cottage is a residential rental.
08:25It looks big.
08:26Yeah, it looks big.
08:28While Leah's is a former farmhouse.
08:31Let's see.
08:34Inside, both designers must totally transform a hallway and a landing.
08:39We're pinning over that.
08:40Absolutely.
08:41Be gone white.
08:42A twin bedroom and a master bedroom.
08:45Oh.
08:46We don't have time for that Sophie.
08:48A dining room.
08:50It's a bit smaller than I thought.
08:52And a living room.
08:53Far too beige for my liking.
08:56These are holiday lets and I want this place to be so fully booked that people can't even get in
09:01because it's that busy.
09:03I'm making it enticing by hoping to create a wild escape.
09:09So.
09:10Oh, wow. That is exciting.
09:12Imagine.
09:14All the ceiling in the leopard print.
09:16Crazy and amazing.
09:17All the way through.
09:18Upstairs, landing, everything.
09:20100% safari madness style.
09:22That's what you need here.
09:24My whole concept of this cottage is not to the safari side of Long Lake, but the gardens at Long
09:31Lake.
09:32All the nature and all the trees will just come to life.
09:36Hopefully they come to life.
09:39To realise their contrasting concepts, Sophie and Leah will each get two carpenters and three decorators.
09:46There you go.
09:47Welcome, welcome.
09:49Final time.
09:50Final.
09:52How are you feeling?
09:54I'm excited.
09:55We're going big, we're going bald, we're going botanical.
09:58But yeah.
09:59Well, the big change in this room is...
10:00Big mic drop moment.
10:02I'm switching around the configuration.
10:04Just to confuse things.
10:05Yes.
10:07Leah plans to swap around her downstairs rooms, making the largest space the social heart of the home.
10:14The current living room will be transformed into a dining space with a cocktail nook and she's building a large
10:21structural arch to divide the areas.
10:25The dining area will be a dusky olive green with a built-in bar and alcove unit, plus up-cycled
10:32dining set and dried flowers on the mantel.
10:35The den will have botanical print paper with inky blue ceiling and panels, plus terracotta velvet chairs.
10:43Her new smaller living room will be painted in a paler olive green with more inky blue on the skirting
10:50and picture rail, plus botanical paper on the ceiling.
10:54The fireplace will be painted terracotta pink and clad with geometric tiles, flanked by two new arched alcove units.
11:03Comfy velvet sofas and an armchair will give guests generous seating to lounge upon.
11:11The big swap of the dining room and the living room is quite a big risk.
11:15I reckon we're ready to get started.
11:17Let's do it!
11:18But I love hosting and that's been such an important part of all of my designs.
11:24Hello! How are you?
11:26It's good.
11:27I grew up in Glasgow. We are Scottish-Italians, so there was never a quiet moment.
11:34Would you like a coffee? Espresso, please.
11:36Growing up, I loved going on holiday with my parents and still do with my friends and family.
11:43We all make dinner and we always love socialising together.
11:45I think what's really important is making large, open spaces.
11:49We can all sit together, but somewhere to make a nice drink as well.
11:53Leah has always been very creative from a very, very early age.
11:56Actually, it definitely comes from her dad.
11:58Happy with that? Yeah.
12:00Right, okay.
12:00My dad is my main inspiration.
12:03He is the biggest DIY person you'll ever meet.
12:08Keep yourself flat. That's it.
12:11Leah would always watch everything that I did and ask questions on
12:14why this screw, why that nail, why are you doing it that way, Dad?
12:18I think she has now far surpassed my ability of doing any DIY.
12:22I think I should be a stronger word than proud.
12:25I think you're spot on.
12:26Perfect.
12:27I would love to win just to make them that one-inch powder.
12:33Well done!
12:34Yay!
12:36Good luck.
12:38Gonna need it.
12:39Oh, no, you're not.
12:42Too late.
12:43Too late.
12:44With the teams out of the starting blocks...
12:48Why am I so small?
12:49Oh, God.
12:50Leah's first job is to get her giant room divider underway.
12:55So, I'd like to build an arch to kind of separate these two spaces.
13:00Straight up on both sides but then curving into a flat.
13:04OK.
13:05It's definitely risky to task a carpenter pretty much his whole time
13:09to make the arch.
13:10After last week's sofa, I need to be able to finish in a reasonable time
13:16and not panic at the end.
13:17How many lengths of this timber have you got?
13:20Ten.
13:21Do you need more?
13:22Gonna need at least another ten, fifteen.
13:24Across the estate, Sophie's got simpler constructions.
13:29So, plan for this alcove is a tall log store, a shelf for the TV
13:34and then shelf on top for board games, blankets, that kind of thing.
13:38Leaving her free to prioritise paint.
13:41Gorgeous colour, that is.
13:42Oh, guys.
13:44It's giving opulence.
13:46I will be demonstrating my signature style in full fat effect.
13:51There's going to be lots of rich colour.
13:53Oh-ho-ho!
13:54Yes!
13:56Does make me want a glass of Merl, I think.
13:59Each of the rooms will be different,
14:01but those colours together are going to clash beautifully.
14:06Sophie's inspiration for her clashing colours and prints
14:09is from the Safari Park to create a wild escape.
14:14Her living room will be covered in an exotic animal-embellished wallpaper
14:18sitting above panelling painted avocado green.
14:23The colour will continue on the window frames and mantle
14:26and the ceiling painted rich burgundy.
14:29She's adding a log store and TV unit in the corner
14:32plus two large fringe lights to illuminate her furniture
14:37adorned with faux fur froes.
14:39Her hallway is going a bold peacock teal
14:43with gold stairs, fake animal decor
14:45and leopard print wallpaper across the entire ceiling.
14:50Leading through to the dining room
14:52where she's sourced a second-hand dining table and chairs
14:55which Ben will upholster.
14:57The alcoves are going stripy
15:00and a corner bar will be built in.
15:02She'll showcase her signature limewash walls
15:05before embellishing them with hand-painted black and gold maps
15:09of African countries.
15:13Oh la la.
15:15This is a beautiful warm stone colour.
15:17Couldn't resist doing some limewash for the final.
15:20I'm feeling quite positive. I'm trying to stay calm.
15:23Not going to panic.
15:26And...yeah.
15:26See what happens.
15:29While Sophie is using different colours in every room,
15:32Leah has another game plan when it comes to her paint palette.
15:36So I'm using a green tones, blue and a kind of terracotta colour
15:41in every single room.
15:42I think all of the colours are just so complimentary.
15:45Plus in each room she will add a botanical element using print...
15:50That's it.
15:52..as well as her dried flowers.
15:54This is going to go on top of the mantle in the new dining room.
15:59I incorporate dried flowers into a lot of things
16:02and I always like to add.
16:05But what I have learnt is to edit.
16:09But that's much harder to do than it sounds.
16:13I mean right now it's a bit of a mess, but once I'm finished with it, it'll be lovely.
16:24When I heard Longley at a cruise, I couldn't wait to dust off my cravat.
16:29What a sophisticated way to check on the designers.
16:32Fingers crossed I'll be invited to the captain's table for a bit of supper.
16:36Excuse me, what's on the menu today?
16:40Sprats.
16:41But I'm a prawn cocktail kind of guy.
16:44They're for the sea lions?
16:45Sea lions?
16:51All right, all right, it's coming, it's coming.
16:54You're getting suggestion, you're not chewing it.
16:57Oh, you're a right Chatty Cathy.
17:01Oh, I bet Jane MacDonald didn't have to do this.
17:03Can you swim me to the designers please?
17:12Hi, Leah.
17:13Hey Alan.
17:14Hi Johnny.
17:15Hi Alan.
17:16I've got a bucket of Omega free.
17:19Who wants a bit of sprat?
17:20I'm going to pass, I'll wait for lunch.
17:22Well, don't come to me when you're hungry later.
17:26Leah, you seem quite zen.
17:29Last week you were stressed, so how are you feeling?
17:31Are you stressed now?
17:32No, feeling really calm this week.
17:35She's been channelling her inner giraffe, very calm.
17:37I thought your neck had got longer.
17:40So, you're a maximalist, Sophie's also a maximalist.
17:45I don't think Longleat's going to know what's hit it.
17:49What's happening?
17:50So, there's definitely some elements of my signature style.
17:54Dried flowers, love it.
17:56But then there's lots of kind of new elements that I've learnt.
17:59So, this used to be the living room and next door was the dining room.
18:03But I decided to switch them around.
18:07I wanted this to be like the hub where everyone would enjoy a meal.
18:10I think where you excel at, it's the communal spaces.
18:14It's making everyone feel, come round the table.
18:17Let's eat like a big hearty meal.
18:19Well, hopefully this room will be an addition to that as well.
18:23Well, good luck with everything.
18:25It's looking great.
18:26Lovely to see you again.
18:27I'm going to take me bucket of sprat.
18:30You might want to get some room spray.
18:32Still smells of fish.
18:35Sorry about that.
18:46What other countries are you doing?
18:47Kenya.
18:48Nice.
18:49Kenya's going over there.
18:50Might have Tanzania somewhere.
18:52Hi, guys.
18:54Hi, Alan.
18:54Hello.
18:56Sophie's face.
18:57You're back.
18:58I've returned.
18:59So, listen, for someone who loves animal print.
19:01Yeah.
19:02To then get a job in a safari park.
19:04I mean, it's like, hello.
19:06I'm having the best time.
19:07I know.
19:07I can see.
19:08I can see.
19:09And I see you've got lime wash.
19:11Yeah.
19:11I think it's really timeless and elegant.
19:13And actually, it's creating a really good canvas for all my crazy stuff.
19:17So, what's this then?
19:19It's not dry rot, is it?
19:20No.
19:21No.
19:22So, it's actually the outline of Namibia.
19:25Oh.
19:26Oh, I see.
19:28Yeah.
19:28I did want to kind of pay respects to the African countries that are famous for safaris as well.
19:34So, there's going to be African countries everywhere all around here?
19:37There'll be, there'll be two or three.
19:39All right.
19:39Can you show me the door?
19:41Did you get it?
19:42Just that way.
19:42I'm Serengeti me coat.
19:44Bye.
19:44Bye.
19:51Both finalists are using mainly second-hand furniture, which the boys are upcycling.
19:58Johnny's smoothing things down.
20:00I've sanded the dining chairs.
20:01I'm sanding this dining table.
20:03I'm in the zone.
20:04I'm sanding.
20:05Whilst Ben's tarting things up.
20:08Sofa wants me to use these curtains as the cushion cover.
20:13Got, like, a nice little, like, giraffe pattern feel to it.
20:16Curtains you can find in charity shops.
20:18And the fabric works out so much cheaper.
20:20It's a nice little hack, actually.
20:25The first day is drawing to a close.
20:28Paper's here.
20:29That's nice.
20:30Looks like you're wearing it.
20:35Look, look, look, look.
20:38Oh, yeah.
20:39End of day one.
20:40I am really happy with progress.
20:43Those guys are quick.
20:45We have a lot of paint on the walls.
20:47We have one of the carpentry builds complete.
20:50We have some upholstery already done.
20:52Yeah, I'm feeling good.
20:54Let's get a pint.
20:57Day one.
20:58Done and dusted.
20:58I really wanted to be started in the den.
21:01But we can't wallpaper the den until the arch is done.
21:05So that bit will need to kind of hang fire.
21:08Obviously, that's quite a big build.
21:09So, yeah, tomorrow I'll get more things done.
21:22Right then, day two.
21:24Oh, here we go again.
21:25Another day.
21:26Another day with you.
21:28With both cottages taking shape downstairs.
21:31Be gone.
21:32Horrible fireplace.
21:33Yeah.
21:34Leah and Sophie turn their attentions to the bedrooms upstairs.
21:38The plan for the master bedroom is completely colour drenched
21:41in a really sort of dark grige colour.
21:44It's super calming.
21:46And then I'm going to bring the prints in through soft furnishings.
21:49But I'm making it so that both of my bedrooms are that amazing
21:53that people aren't going to be fighting over the master
21:56because the twin is also awesome.
21:59Sophie's twin bedroom will also be colour drenched,
22:02but in a punchy coral pink.
22:05She's dressing the room with mismatching antique furniture
22:08and giving the beds cheetah print headboards
22:11to clash against snake and insect wallpaper.
22:18I'm using the most amazing wallpaper I've ever seen.
22:22It just adds to that maximalism.
22:24Snakes and grasshoppers.
22:26My signature style is very much the same
22:29as when I started the competition.
22:31A lot of things have developed.
22:32I can put together a space much better,
22:35but fundamentally my signature style
22:37is still rock and roll maximalism.
22:42My mum inspired me to get into interior design.
22:46She qualified as an interior designer herself a few years ago.
22:49Mmm, I like that.
22:51My style is more classic traditional
22:53but with a French twist
22:55and obviously Sophie says maximalist.
22:58Beige and boring and not Sophie at all.
23:00She's never been like that.
23:02She's always had this colourful way about her really.
23:05That lamp's mega. I love that.
23:06Yeah. I like that as well.
23:08She makes my heart sing.
23:10She's just...
23:11She's...
23:12I wish I could be like her, put it that way.
23:15I feel like this experience has brought us closer together
23:19because we really do share a huge passion for interior design.
23:24Having my mum supports the best.
23:27You know how proud I am of you.
23:29You've astounded me every step of the way.
23:32You've made me cry.
23:34I love you.
23:35I love you.
23:39I love you.
23:41That is amazing.
23:42I love it.
23:44It's mad because it's so pretty even though it's full of snakes.
23:48Ta-da!
23:51Love it!
23:52Very stripy.
23:53In Leah's farmhouse, her twin room vibe is more subtle.
23:57It's going all on that wall and all on this wall.
24:00Twin rooms normally may be for kids,
24:02so it's quite a neutral palette.
24:04When I started the competition, I hated white,
24:07but I have learnt that sometimes it is okay to use it,
24:10so we're growing, we're learning.
24:13Leah's twin room will have light taupe walls,
24:16as well as sage green stripy wallpaper
24:19and headboards upholstered in mottled pink,
24:22furnished with a blue-teal chest of drawers,
24:25a clothes rail and botanical prints.
24:29Her master bedroom will be colour-drenched in a muddy green,
24:33which is contrasting with muted pink curtains,
24:36headboard and cushions.
24:38The centrepiece will be a show-stopping mural
24:41of a bucolic scene.
24:44We'll just go up to that break line there.
24:47I really love this paper, it looks so good.
24:50Mmm! It's gorgeous.
24:52Have you seen your naked woman in there as well?
24:54Oh, yeah, in the trees!
24:57It looks a bit like you.
25:00I've left them a little memory of me.
25:04The master bedroom wallpaper has been a firm favourite of mine for years,
25:10but I could never afford it,
25:11so when we got this challenge I was like,
25:14I'm ordering that paper, I don't care how much it costs.
25:17Hi, Leah.
25:19Hey, Alan.
25:20This looks expensive.
25:23Good, cos it was.
25:26Dare I ask how much?
25:27Just this wall was around £500.
25:31The paper is the show-stopper here.
25:33It does look like those tapestries you get in stately homes,
25:36like Longleat House.
25:38Yeah, that's kind of where the inspiration came from
25:40and also the drive down to Longleat House
25:42has very similar trees
25:44and then you've got the beautiful lake.
25:46Why don't you draw a hippo so it looks really authentic?
25:49Do you want me to go and get my biro?
25:52So what would it mean to you if you did win?
25:55Honestly, I have always wanted to do interior design,
25:58but it's hard to get a job in interior design
26:00when you have no experience,
26:01so to be the winner
26:02and to be one of those people who says,
26:05like, I love my job
26:06and every day I get to do something I love
26:09would just be unbelievable.
26:13Yeah?
26:14Yeah.
26:15When it comes to wild wallpaper,
26:19Sophie's hallway is a whole new level.
26:22All my dreams are coming true right now.
26:25So it's Team Sophie, doesn't it?
26:26Yeah, it does.
26:29Not Cat Slater?
26:30Maybe, maybe not Cat Slater.
26:32And Leah also wants guests to see her signature style
26:36as soon as they walk in the door.
26:38I'm going to put a bunch of dried flowers inside wooden crates.
26:41I'll use that as artwork for the hallway when you come in,
26:45so botanical feels.
26:53Designers, we're halfway through day two.
26:56Not that she cares.
27:07Oh!
27:09Now, Sophie!
27:12Look at this!
27:13Wow!
27:14This has got to be your dream hallway.
27:17I mean, yeah, it's very me.
27:19And it's the final.
27:20This isn't the time to be meek and mild, is it?
27:23No, no, no.
27:24I've gone...
27:25No.
27:25I've gone all around.
27:26If it is, you're in trouble.
27:28LAUGHTER
27:30I suppose when people come through the door,
27:33it's setting up your stall, isn't it?
27:34Yeah.
27:34This is fun, this is wild.
27:36Don't take it the wrong way, but you deserve to be in a zoo.
27:40LAUGHTER
27:42Thanks, Alan.
27:43That comes from a really good place.
27:46Any worries at the minute?
27:47I am still waiting for a couple of deliveries.
27:50Oh, God.
27:51Yeah, I'm waiting for cheetah print fabric
27:53to upholster some headboards with,
27:55which I'm now starting to get a bit anxious about.
27:58Oh, God.
27:59I know.
28:02Up a wee bit more.
28:04Yes.
28:05So, the lighting is currently going up.
28:07They're all slightly different,
28:08but they will all give the same feeling.
28:10These ones are quite expensive, so, yeah.
28:12No pressure, Liam.
28:13No dropping.
28:14Right, we've got some fun light shades.
28:16OK.
28:16OK.
28:17I'd like one lower than the other,
28:19sort of on the diagonal, but lounge vibes.
28:22On the diagonal?
28:23On the diagonal.
28:24Basically, just go and see where it lands.
28:27That'll do.
28:27I think so.
28:30Whoo!
28:31With house lights up...
28:34Yes!
28:35..and Leah's arch getting set...
28:37I'm coming.
28:42Looks like it grew there, mate.
28:44..Drama teacher Johnny is enjoying a curtain call.
28:48I was quite inspired by the mazes at Longley House.
28:51And so, when you look at this curtain fabric,
28:54it is maze-like.
28:55But in Sophie's master bedroom...
28:58So, I'm just thinking about the curtains
28:59that I've got for here.
29:01..she's drawing a blank.
29:03I didn't realise the beams run straight either side of that window,
29:08which means that if I put a curtain rail across,
29:10it would have to be lower,
29:11and it would cut the top of the window off,
29:12which I just can't do.
29:16Ooh!
29:17Ooh!
29:17Oh, yeah.
29:18OK.
29:19Oh, God.
29:20What about...?
29:21She's got brainwaves.
29:22I've had a brainwave.
29:23Yeah, then.
29:24What about we hang the curtains behind the bed?
29:26So, the windows have shutters.
29:28We're going to leave as is.
29:30Instead, we're going to get a brass curtain rail
29:32and put that behind the bed
29:34and hang the curtains behind the bed.
29:37Ho, ho, ho!
29:38Actually, that looks really nice, actually, that does.
29:41It blends in really nicely with that colour of the wall.
29:42So, all of that will then soften that bed area
29:46and make it really inviting.
29:48Yes!
29:51That's going to be mint.
29:53After nearly two days,
29:54Leah's arch divider is finally installed.
29:59The arch was definitely a risk in terms of timing.
30:03I think it's been crowned as the biggest build in any final,
30:06so, I mean, I'll take the title.
30:09This looks so good.
30:11I love it.
30:11Epic.
30:12Love it.
30:13A whole false wall of the archway.
30:17It is the final.
30:18Yep.
30:19Got to give it my all.
30:21It was definitely risky,
30:23but I think the arch looks incredible
30:25and it looks like it was always meant to be there
30:28and that's exactly how you want a build like that to look.
30:30I'm so happy with how that's come out.
30:34Oh, look at that.
30:36As the trades down tools for the day.
30:39Just done.
30:41Simple as that.
30:43Sophie decides to take a peek at the competition.
30:47Leah!
30:49Hello.
30:50Hey, Belle.
30:51How are you doing?
30:52Oh.
30:52Oh.
30:53Oh.
30:54So what's...
30:55What is this room?
30:56So this room used to be the living room with no arch.
31:02Yeah.
31:02And then we are making it into the dining room and a den.
31:06Oh, cute.
31:08Like a little snug.
31:09A little snug.
31:10Yeah.
31:11And then this is going to be the new living room.
31:14Oh, yes.
31:16This ceiling is amazing.
31:18A magical ceiling.
31:19Oh, no.
31:20It's too good.
31:21No.
31:22Stop it.
31:24I have just seen Leah's house
31:26and I think Leah's idea to do the snug at the end of the dining room
31:30and to switch the spaces over is genius.
31:33So I'm panicking a little bit.
31:37Go.
31:38Let's get home.
31:39Come on.
31:39Let's go.
31:40We made so much progress today.
31:42The arch is done.
31:44So tomorrow I've made enough time to actually do all the finishing touches
31:49with plenty of time.
31:51Maybe.
31:53Dude, thank you.
31:54Not a problem.
31:55Right.
31:56Let's go.
31:56Come on.
31:57End of day two.
31:58Ooh.
32:02Yeah.
32:03Very overwhelmed.
32:05Got a lot of emotions.
32:07Tomorrow is the last day to finish the design.
32:09So there is a lot to do.
32:11I feel concerned at the minute because it just hit me like how huge a job this is.
32:17When you actually think about it, it's just a stupid amount to do in a couple of days.
32:29It's the final day of the final challenge.
32:32Morning.
32:34Morning.
32:35Last day.
32:36Yeah.
32:38Woo.
32:38Ready to go?
32:39Yeah.
32:39Yeah.
32:40Ready to win?
32:41Yeah.
32:42Yeah.
32:42Yeah.
32:43In just a few hours, the judges will arrive to pick their winning rental cottage.
32:48So the plan of action today is to crack on with the den.
32:52We had to sort of take a step back on it yesterday whilst we finished up the arch.
32:56So we really need to focus on getting that sorted ASAP.
33:00But whilst in Leah's den, things are going up.
33:03Yeah.
33:04Perfect.
33:06In Sophie's dining room, things are coming down.
33:10I tried something new.
33:11Doing those outlines of the African countries, it didn't work.
33:15I just couldn't get it to look the way I wanted to, so I made the decision.
33:20We've scrapped it.
33:27Mid-morning.
33:29And all final bills are being installed.
33:35Sophie!
33:37Oh, yes!
33:39Yeah?
33:40Oh, God.
33:40This looks great.
33:41Yeah.
33:42Plus, the hallways are getting some finishing touches.
33:46These are the deedle rails that will go in the entrance hall.
33:50I'm painting the bottom half of these steps all in gold.
33:53It's a bit more of an opulent look.
33:56And Johnny is getting a headboard.
33:59I'm making two headboards for the twin bedroom.
34:02This is my absolute happy place.
34:05Oh!
34:08Hello.
34:10Sophie's headboards, however, are giving her a headache.
34:14Nervously waiting for some fabric for my headboards in the twin.
34:18That has to arrive.
34:19If it doesn't, I don't know what I'm going to do.
34:21I'm losing my mind.
34:23I don't think this fabric's going to come.
34:24OK.
34:25We literally have hours left.
34:27Stop stressing.
34:28It's going to be fine.
34:29It's not fine, Ben.
34:31I don't know how you can be so calm.
34:32It's not fine.
34:33It will be.
34:34Sophie's biggest stress at the moment is the fabric for the headboards.
34:37And she's just in that moment now where she sees the finish line
34:39and she's also seeing what's not done and then she panics.
34:43So, yeah, I've just got to make sure, keep supporting Sophie,
34:46make sure she's calm and just keep her a clear head
34:49so she can get this done properly.
34:53We're halfway through the final day.
34:55A little birdie told me.
34:59I'm just currently trying to fit the bed base together.
35:04Sophie's gone for this bed because it's like that nice antique kind of look.
35:07It makes a really nice statement in this room.
35:09We do the armchair.
35:12Yeah.
35:13Do we put that there?
35:14Do we just do the armchair and the sofa?
35:16So, for the living room, we've got a secondhand blue sofa
35:20and an orange sofa which will just highlight the terracotta colour
35:23within the paper and the fireplace.
35:28They've seen the house.
35:30Cosy.
35:32My concern in this room is that the furniture looks mental.
35:35Well, to be fair, right now we're all over the place.
35:37I'm worrying to have antique furniture, the colour's not right.
35:41It should be a dual town.
35:42Stop doubting yourself. This is doubt.
35:44You chose right because remember when you first walked into this room
35:47and you saw her and you went,
35:48wow, that is an amazing room.
35:50Put that back in your head.
35:52Yeah?
35:52Yeah.
35:53Go on.
35:55We've just a few hours to go.
35:58Designers, you haven't got long.
36:00Have you been on the telly?
36:02Did you sell me insurance once?
36:04Both finalists start to style.
36:07Styling is not my calling.
36:09I think it's safe to say.
36:11Whereas I think Leah's great at styling.
36:14That's why I'm panicking.
36:16Just trying to think how to make this shelf look a bit fuller.
36:21Normally, I'm the one going around making stressful decisions
36:25and they've ended up being the wrong decisions.
36:27Especially after last week when I was panicking
36:29and I was running out of time.
36:31This week, I've really gone into every room in a calm state
36:35and thought about everything in it.
36:37Hi, guys.
36:39Hi, Al.
36:40Hi.
36:40Got your cushions.
36:42Thank you so much.
36:43What a great help.
36:44Where do you want to put them?
36:45Pass them to my qualified assistant, I think.
36:47You don't trust me.
36:50She does, but I will take them.
36:54This is the final.
36:55So, we've got to make sure that karate chop cushion is perfect.
36:59Oh!
37:00Are you sure I can't just put one?
37:01Go on, do it.
37:02This is going to kill you, isn't it?
37:05There you go.
37:07Ah, yes!
37:09As the judges approach the estate,
37:12Sophie's cheetah print delivery has arrived.
37:15So, the fabric finally turned up.
37:19Literally, minutes to spare.
37:21So, I've managed to get that quickly on the headboard,
37:24and I'm really happy now.
37:27It was worth the stress, I think.
37:30Ta-da!
37:32Whatever you want it.
37:35Don't rush me here.
37:37Just go on there.
37:39Last-minute addition.
37:41I'm making a pair of curtains out of a duvet cover.
37:45I think it needs to come down.
37:47It's too high up, isn't it?
37:48Too high up.
37:49Can't have the fabric all bunched up like that.
37:51Curtain coming through.
37:54Meow.
37:55Oh, my God.
37:59Where's Africa gone?
38:00I thought I was coming home as a lion.
38:03I scrapped it, and I've gone back to limewash.
38:05You got rid of Namibia?
38:06I did.
38:06Oh, it's a circle of life, isn't it?
38:11I love them.
38:13Just little wooden trays,
38:14and then I've just turned them into artwork.
38:17Just lift it up a little bit.
38:19Yeah, like that.
38:20Voila.
38:21A curtain.
38:22A little bit of dressing.
38:23Oh!
38:32Time is up.
38:33Welcome.
38:34I'm proud of you.
38:34Thank you so much.
38:36I mean, I couldn't have done that without you, mate.
38:38You smashed it.
38:40You did it!
38:40I can't believe it.
38:41I'm gonna cry.
38:43Honestly, thank you so much.
38:46This has been, like, the most mad surreal experience,
38:49and to think that it's coming to an end now
38:52it's, um, yeah, I'm quite sad.
38:56But I've just had the best time.
38:58Like, the best time.
39:00I want it so bad.
39:02Like, so bad, that it's, yeah, it's all very emotional now.
39:13To help Michelle judge the winning rental cottage
39:16is Laurence Llewellyn Bowen,
39:18a fellow Maximalist designer renowned for his wild style.
39:24Laurence, somehow I imagine that you're very at home here at Longleat.
39:27Well, this is a building that was built by the Elizabethans
39:30basically to just show off.
39:32So that, combined with the fact you've got
39:34some gorgeously furry apex predators wandering around
39:37in the countryside,
39:38yes, I feel as if I've come to my spiritual home.
39:41One of the things the finalists have to give me is impacts.
39:45Because people are going to be paying money to stay in them,
39:48you want to walk in and go,
39:50wow, nice is a word I hope never to use.
39:56Really, when I walk into those spaces,
39:58I just hope that they have believed in themselves
40:01to say, I'm here in the final, I am an interior design master.
40:10Sophie's wild escape cottage is the first to be poured over.
40:15Oh, pretty.
40:17Isn't this super pretty?
40:19It's like a little tea caddy.
40:21Every room in that cottage looks exactly how I wanted it to.
40:26I honestly could burst. I'm so proud.
40:38Oh, heavens.
40:40Can you tell that Sophie loves an animal print?
40:45We've got the leopard on the ceiling.
40:48Foam leopard underneath us and feathers on the lights.
40:51There's a lot of kind of anti-good taste in here.
40:54And I actually rather love that.
40:56I rather love the passion.
40:57Also, I love this colour.
40:59Mmm.
41:00This kind of peacocky, greeny blue.
41:02Feels very precious.
41:03I feel like I've walked into the inside of a jewellery box.
41:06Mmm.
41:06If this is where we're going,
41:07then let's buckle ourselves in and shout huzzah for the ride.
41:24Ooh.
41:27Sophie really is taking every opportunity to remind us that we're in a safari park.
41:32Mmm.
41:32It's writ large over the wallpaper.
41:35It's in the imagery.
41:36In the context of a holiday let, I think people would love this.
41:39I think people would come and go,
41:40oh, yes, we saw one of those, didn't we?
41:43And there's something so joyful about all of this maximalist confidence.
41:47This is someone that's so good at colour.
41:51There's so much lovely detail with the pair of lampshades.
41:54So not just one, but two and their fringing detail.
41:57But then she's plomped this huge unit in the corner.
42:01Yeah.
42:01If those shells were full of very thoughtfully curated objects, then I'd get it.
42:06And we've got two kind of furled up blankets and a box of matches.
42:16Wow.
42:16We've really changed a beat now.
42:20Her genius moment is obviously the walls.
42:24There's this lime-washed stone effect sort of finish.
42:28Mm.
42:28Almost looks like onyx.
42:29And in candlelight, I think it would feel very romantic.
42:32I love the upholstery on the chairs and the stripes.
42:35That friction, it's a bit unexpected.
42:37But I feel as if we're missing something here.
42:40I think this is crying out for some kind of pattern or some kind of motif.
42:43Apparently she was going to draw on the walls sort of map,
42:47but then she changed her mind and decided to paint over it.
42:49Mm, I think the map might be a bit too literal.
42:51And then, like in the living room, I am missing all of the little styling touches.
42:58Oh, wow.
42:59I'm warming to the leopard print on the ceiling.
43:02You're being seduced.
43:03As I see it all the way up.
43:05And I love how I'm seeing the upholstery from the dining chairs
43:08suddenly reappear here, making that gorgeous little window seat.
43:19Ah.
43:19Ah.
43:21Yes.
43:22How fabulous are those headboards against that totally bonkers wallpaper.
43:28That is absolute textbook.
43:30This is what maximalism does.
43:31It throws snakes and lemons and spiders,
43:34and then suddenly leopard print looks like it's quite well behaved next to it.
43:38And let's absolutely revel and roll in the gorgeousness of this Percy Pig pink.
43:45I love the little details, like the introduction of this round table with the two little chairs.
43:50Yeah.
43:51There is something that really sings in this room.
43:55Mm.
43:55You almost sang that.
43:56I did.
43:57I'm happy.
43:58I love it.
44:27It's her.
44:28It hangs together.
44:29It is very elegant, and I think very commercial.
44:32People who were going to put money towards a couple of nights, this is absolutely the sort of the boutique
44:38hotel experience they would be longing for.
44:39Next, Leah's floral-inspired farmhouse.
44:45The big swap of the dining room and the living room was quite a big risk.
44:51Hopefully, that paid off.
45:00So the transformation starts in the hallway.
45:03Yeah.
45:04It's very elegant.
45:05We've got a sense of one of Leah's signatures, the dried flowers, and I rather like that she's housed them
45:11in these sort of wooden containers.
45:13It's a clever way of framing the flowers, don't you think?
45:27Oh, this is beautiful.
45:30This originally was the living room, and she switched it.
45:34Right.
45:34So she's given the bigger, more generous room over to dining.
45:38In the context of a holiday cottage, you are more likely to want to have these sprawling meals
45:43than sit round and watch television.
45:45So, in fact, she has been quite clever.
45:48And who knew that several shades of Kermit could look quite so chic?
45:51But the thing I'm most excited about is in this large room,
45:55she's architecturally divided it to make this little pre-cocktail seating booth.
46:01I love the conversational snug.
46:04I'll be pinching that idea.
46:05Oh, yes.
46:06So there must be another space that has now become the living room.
46:10We need to go on a sofa safari.
46:12Come on.
46:18Here be the sofas.
46:21Oh, look at that ceiling.
46:23I love the ceiling.
46:25Why bother with telly?
46:26It's like a whole box set going on up there.
46:29It could have been a horrible compromise,
46:31forced to sort of lounge in this teeny, teeny room.
46:34But in fact, I think here, you're going to snuggle.
46:36I'm finding the furniture a little squeezed in.
46:40I think I would have chosen more streamlined pieces.
46:43But these arch-top niches are exactly the sort of thing that you'd see in a Victorian cottage.
46:50It's where you put your poor front room trainer, really.
46:54And again, she's used this blue and the green, and then this terracotta colour.
46:58But it's got a lot of personality to it.
47:01Shall we see whether there is more green to be seen?
47:03Well, shall we?
47:09Yeah.
47:11Yeah.
47:14Yeah.
47:16Yeah.
47:17Yeah.
47:26Yeah.
47:32Yeah, but that's nice though, isn't it?
47:34I think she's going to put the paper against the headboards.
47:36That's a nice sort of pattern clash.
47:37I do love the evolution of her palette.
47:41The fact that it's becoming so much more kind of gentle as we go further and further up the house.
47:48I think she's a very empathic designer, and I think she understands what rooms feel like.
47:53What people would like to feel in that room.
47:56This would be a real seller, I think, for a holiday cottage.
47:59After you, this test.
48:00I'm going to take the first bullet for a change.
48:01Yes.
48:08I was hoping for a grand finale.
48:12And I'm going to say this.
48:14I love it.
48:15This feels like a real evolution of her design style into something that now fits totally perfectly with this space.
48:23And again, it's this pinky greeny colour palette.
48:27Yes.
48:28She's connecting us back to the main room downstairs.
48:30And the wallpaper behind the headboard.
48:33The fact that it looks like a tapestry is quite wonderful.
48:37It's clever.
48:37There are tapestries in Longleats.
48:39So actually, as a paying guest, that is such a wonderful way of giving a real sense of, you know,
48:47they are staying in the Longleats estate.
48:49Teeny tiny thing though, would you have taken the tapestry paper just up that piece of the ceiling?
48:54I mean, it would have given a really beautiful feeling of enclosure.
49:00I think this feels very accomplished.
49:02I think this feels very confident.
49:04She has created somewhere that she would want to stay, but also she's created somewhere that people coming to visit
49:11Longleat would want to stay.
49:16Before the judges pick their winner, they want one last sofa chat with the finalists.
49:23So, Leah, welcome.
49:25We walked into your dining room and were just knocked away.
49:32It was a big decision to make the biggest room into the dining room.
49:35And then by adding the arch, I love that.
49:38I mean, that's beyond decorating.
49:39Oh, she was skipping around that one.
49:43I've seen that as a little bit of a theme through some of your designs, where you create this kind
49:47of wonderful convivial atmosphere.
49:49Yeah, they're always so welcoming.
49:51You just want to sit in the seat and just enjoy it, soak it up.
49:56The overwhelming sense that I got was that this was someone who felt very in control of what they were
50:02doing.
50:02So there were a lot of colours that were similar, but the way that the colours gradually kind of got
50:07a bit paler the further up you went, I thought it was so clever.
50:10It was so enjoyable to connect them all.
50:13The colours were similar, but they all had a slightly different tone.
50:16And I think I now know how to use that much better than I did at the start.
50:21So, what is next?
50:23Do you actually want to become a professional interior designer?
50:26Absolutely.
50:27I want to wake up every single day being able to say I am an interior designer.
50:31And it makes me have, like, goosebumps, because that is my dream job.
50:36You've found your purpose.
50:42I feel like a massive weight has just been lifted off my shoulders, and I can just go...
50:51Now I have found what I love, and I know exactly what I want to do.
50:56It would mean everything to win, but I am really proud of myself, and if that doesn't happen, I still
51:03need to remember that my dad would still tell me I was a winner.
51:09Next up is Sophie.
51:11I got the feeling that you really enjoyed this project.
51:16Yeah.
51:16I have had a blast.
51:17I really have.
51:18Your sorcery of colour was just so empowering.
51:23You're calling her a witch?
51:24Kind of, but in a good way.
51:25I'm calling you a colour witch.
51:27Is that all right?
51:28But that hit of peacock in the hallway, it was so unbelievably invigorating.
51:34My concept was wild escapism, and I wanted impact.
51:39Never, ever, ever lose that bravura.
51:42How do you feel that you've changed from week one to now in the final?
51:47Because I feel like I've seen a lot of evolution.
51:50I feel that there is a lot I've learnt, but especially in the last two weeks, a lot has clicked.
51:57And I've, yeah, I feel that that confidence has really come now.
52:02I've been my own worst enemy and really, really doubted myself and my own abilities.
52:07But, yeah, I can do it.
52:10There we go.
52:15Yeah.
52:17I'm going to be confident from now on.
52:19I have to be, because I've done something really good this week.
52:22I've just designed an entire cottage at Longley.
52:27What?
52:28It's crazy.
52:30I want to win.
52:31I want it to be me.
52:33I, I, hopefully I've done enough.
52:39As if Longley didn't already have plenty of wild animals.
52:43Guys!
52:43Nice to see you.
52:44Nice to see you as well.
52:46The previous designers have arrived to explore the cottages.
52:50Wow.
52:51Who did this house?
52:54Am I inside Sophie's head right now?
52:57It's so cosy.
52:59Look at this wallpaper!
53:00I would definitely be at Sophie's for holiday, because it feels like an experience.
53:05It's honestly like going into a dream.
53:08I'm firmly team Sophie today.
53:11Look at this!
53:12Whoa!
53:14That arch is just a stroke of genius.
53:17Oh, it's making me really, like, emotional cos it's, it's so pretty.
53:21Aw!
53:21I absolutely love Leah's cottage.
53:23The judges have got a difficult decision, but I feel like Leah's is slightly there.
53:28Oh, wow.
53:29Those headboards!
53:30This feels so joyful.
53:32I couldn't possibly choose, but maybe Leah might just have the slight edge.
53:36Just superbly styled and very elegant.
53:39This is bonkers!
53:41Wow!
53:42That wallpaper is crazy!
53:44I personally enjoyed Sophie's more.
53:47I want that snake wallpaper.
53:49I want it as, like, an outfit.
53:50It's so cool.
53:51Leopard print or florals?
53:53Pick your fighter.
54:01Oh!
54:05There's some faces I recognise.
54:08Oh!
54:09And what an honour to meet Noddy Holder.
54:12Mate by mate!
54:15Let's meet our two finalists.
54:18Leah and Sophie!
54:31So, a decision has been made.
54:35After eight weeks of designing and transforming the most incredible spaces,
54:40the winner of Interior Design Masters is...
54:50Leah.
54:51Oh!
54:51Oh!
54:52Oh!
54:54Oh!
54:55Oh no!
54:57Well done!
54:58Oh no!
54:59Oh no!
54:59Oh no!
55:00Oh no!
55:00Oh no!
55:01Oh no!
55:02Oh no!
55:05I just won!
55:07It's a huge side masters!
55:09What on earth is going on?
55:12Oh no!
55:14Oh no!
55:14Oh no!
55:14No!
55:17Yeah, I just won!
55:20Oh my God!
55:26I'm literally going to change my life and that's what I wanted to do.
55:30Now I can fully go into Interior Design and I can wake up every day doing a job I love.
55:36Yeah, my dream has just come true.
55:44I'm really proud of myself and I couldn't be happier for Leah, genuinely.
55:48She's...
55:48She's kick-ass.
55:50It's been a dream come true to design that holiday cottage and to be able to completely unleash Sophie on
55:56the world.
55:56So, yeah, I'm leaving really happy and excited for the future.
56:03Cheers to Leah and cheers to me.
56:06What an absolutely extraordinary final.
56:11With Leah's scheme, it was the fact that she stuck to this extremely sophisticated colour palette.
56:19And I think that that sort of was the thing that kind of just nudged it a little bit for
56:24me.
56:24There was something so magical about Leah's holiday cottage from the moment you walked into that dining room.
56:30I mean, I just stepped into it as a world and I immediately wanted to stay there.
56:35My dad, I totally have him to thank for this.
56:37I always just wanted to do what he could do.
56:40Yeah, oh my God, I can't wait to tell him.
56:46Hello?
56:46Hello?
56:47I won!
56:49I won!
56:50I won!
56:50Wonder...
56:50Oh, hell.
56:51Absolutely brilliant.
56:52Absolutely brilliant.
56:55That's one of the moments of your life, darling.
56:57Enjoy every second of it.
56:59You've earned it really well.
57:00It just shows you what you can achieve.
57:01It's the best use of hats since your wedding.
57:04It's the wedding since you were born.
57:06You are number one.
57:06There you are.
57:07Number one.
57:09Oh, that is sad.
57:11Oh, .
57:12That is stunning.
57:17Bye.
57:17Bye.
57:19Bye.
57:20Bye.
57:22Bye.
57:22Sorry for the sweety there.
57:23Bye.
57:24Bye.
57:54Bye.
57:56Bye.
