00:01:59The Cheetals are the living owners of an award-winning boutique hotel.

00:02:05We believe in our hotel.

00:02:10So we bought this hotel for £300,000 and we've just had it valued to around about 1.6, 1

00:02:18The hotel is my dad's baby.
00:02:20He absolutely loves this place and it's nice to say it's not just a hotel for us.
00:02:27It's probably a bit bigger than most people's houses but it's still our home.
00:02:31And this £1.7 million home is not short on space.
00:02:38It's got 11 bedrooms.
00:02:40It's got a most fantastic kitchen.
00:02:45We've got a cellar full of beautiful wines and champagnes.
00:02:53Rosie looks after the kitchen and all the due diligence.
00:02:57However, the price of running a busy hotel is that there's never any downtime.
00:03:02We're doing a lot of long hours, me and Jess.
00:03:08So when Jess told me about this swap,
00:03:10said maybe we'll have some quality time together
00:03:13so we can have a break from our business.

00:03:34It's lovely because I still get to see my parents
00:03:37but I don't think some people understand that it's not fully quality time.

00:03:45Being brought up in the 70s in Coventry
00:03:48was slightly difficult because, you know,
00:03:51I've got a bit of a suntan on me and racism was quite rife then.

00:04:04And they gave me a list.
00:04:05And I just stopped hospitality.
00:04:08And the reason why I stopped is because they gave you accommodation.
00:04:11And wow, I could leave home.
00:04:13So I went to work in a hotel doing washing up and cooking breakfast.
00:04:18On to hall portering, on to restaurant waiter.
00:04:23And in the end, I ended up in London.
00:04:26Quite a success, really, considering I left with zero.
00:04:34It was an arranged marriage and my parents said to me,
00:04:37that's it, we've had enough of your sort of antics.
00:04:41So it's about time you settled down and picked me up by my ear
00:04:45and took me to India to meet Rosie in New Delhi.
00:04:47My family told me that there is a person living in England
00:04:52doing a general manager's job in a hotel.
00:04:55So when they told me, I said, OK, I'll meet him.
00:05:00But would it work out?
00:05:02She came over from India.
00:05:05She cried.
00:05:06Why did she cry?
00:05:07Because it was cold.
00:05:09It was a very big decision for me.
00:05:11So I took a few days to decide what I'm going to do with my life.
00:05:16Then, after a few days, I said yes.
00:05:20Always ambitious, in 2010,
00:05:22they spent a quarter of a million pounds
00:05:24and branched out on their own.
00:05:26But disaster struck.
00:05:28We actually made an investment, I thought,
00:05:31into a business that could take us places.
00:05:34It didn't work.
00:05:36We lost self-confidence.
00:05:39We lost everything, really.
00:05:42I think I was about six, and I was like,
00:05:44oh, no, I don't know what we're going to do.
00:05:47But Jez and Rosie simply refused to give up.
00:05:51We've come across this hotel as not making any money.
00:05:56And at that time, this is the only place we can afford.
00:06:01And we've made it into a big success, a huge success.
00:06:04It led to a lifestyle the young Jez growing up in Coventry
00:06:08could never have dreamed of.
00:06:10We were definitely given another chance to carry on in life.
00:06:15These days, they give back to the community
00:06:17by helping the long-term unemployed get a second chance.
00:06:21What we do is we get them jobs with accommodation,
00:06:24and some people that we've helped
00:06:26are still in the same job two, three years later.
00:06:30Nobody's perfect, and everybody deserves to change their lives
00:06:34if they want to.
00:06:38The Norfolk town of Sherringham
00:06:41is on England's east coast, 27 miles north of Norwich.
00:06:46It's home to the Bloor family.

00:26:33She said that they did spend time together with holidays and days out.

00:26:42And then they disperse in their rooms.
00:26:45And I'm finding it really, really hard with my children in different parts of the hotel.
00:26:51When they first walked around, they noticed that Jez had received awards for charity work.

00:27:02And I met a young man that had been in prison.
00:27:07Jez took him under his wing when he came out.
00:27:11And he's now got a business going.

00:34:12It was just unfortunate, really, the area that they were in became sort of high crime rate
00:34:18and antisocial behaviour.
00:34:20It did end up with the children getting bullied as soon as they'd started school.
00:34:25It's a really hard situation.
00:34:28You know, as a family, they have to go through these kind of things, and that's terrible.
00:34:33It wasn't just the moving.
00:34:36They homeschooled the kids since COVID.
00:34:38So it was paying for tutors.
00:34:40It was paying for exams.
00:34:42Things like that as well have compounded their debt.
00:34:45But they were prepared to do that in order to get the children through.
00:34:49So do you think that move has put them off risk-taking, and would they risk anything again?
00:34:56I don't think it has put them off.
00:34:58And there's so many skills between them that they can bring to hopefully one day fulfilling their dream,
00:35:05which is having a theatre cafe.
00:35:09It's been a sort of a pipe dream of theirs for a lot of years to have their own establishment
00:35:15where they can work together and as a family unit, so that it will provide opportunities to the kids as
00:35:20well.
00:35:23I feel for the Bloors big time because I work with a lot of people who have not been as
00:35:29fortunate as I have.
