A special service at Durham Cathedral has marked the installation of the Right Reverend Rick Simpson as Bishop of Durham. The ceremony formally welcomed him into one of the most senior roles in the Church of England.

00:22The service included a traditional welcome at the cathedral beginning with a formal
00:26arrival at the north door there first.
00:28During the ceremony, the new bishop knocked on the entrance before being welcomed inside.
00:33He then made a declaration of assent and was installed in his official seat.
00:38Those steps are part of the formal process, marking the beginning of ministry thereafter.
00:43The Bishop of Durham holds one of the most senior positions in the Church of England and is
00:47entitled to sit at the House of Lords.
00:50Speaking at the service, Rick Simpson said serving the diocese would be his focus going
00:54forward.
00:54He also said the Church must address concerns about how power is handled and the need for
00:59humility among leaders.
01:01Around 1,100 people attended the service including civic representatives, politicians and Church
