00:06At Durham Cathedral, the ceremonial services marked the installation of the Rite Reverend
00:10Rick Simpson as Bishop of Durham.
00:12The event formally placed him in the role itself.
00:15Before taking up the post, he was approved by King Charles III in February and consecrated
00:20at York Minster in April.
00:22The service included a traditional welcome at the cathedral beginning with a formal
00:26arrival at the north door there first.
00:28During the ceremony, the new bishop knocked on the entrance before being welcomed inside.
00:33He then made a declaration of assent and was installed in his official seat.
00:38Those steps are part of the formal process, marking the beginning of ministry thereafter.

00:47entitled to sit at the House of Lords.
00:50Speaking at the service, Rick Simpson said serving the diocese would be his focus going
00:54forward.
00:54He also said the Church must address concerns about how power is handled and the need for
00:59humility among leaders.
01:01Around 1,100 people attended the service including civic representatives, politicians and Church
01:07members.
01:07He succeeds the Rite Reverend Paul Butler after his retirement.
