Gold Coast have hit a form slump, and their issues could be compounded by a difficult next six games.

00:00Let's go north and find out what's going on with the Gold Coast Suns
00:02because the winter sun is never as warm as we know.
00:05And we're just starting to think that this team
00:06that Damien Halberg has assembled isn't quite the team
00:10that we thought we were going to get this year.
00:11We had a bit of an explosion last year, won that final,
00:14didn't quite go there to plan in the second final.
00:17But we thought this was going to be the big jump year.
00:20They beat Geelong in their first round.
00:21They do a bit of a number on them.
00:22Maybe the Cats weren't wound up.
00:24We thought, hang on a second, Dim has done it again.
00:27But they are just hovering through the middle of the table
00:29at the moment.
00:31And as we know very, very well,
00:32Dimma has this big boy month mentality
00:34about the middle of the year and how you stand up
00:37when it gets a bit colder and you've got to travel a little bit.
00:39And the Gold Coast Suns now find themselves
00:41with a very, very interesting situation.
00:43For the next four weeks.
00:45We'll go through win and loss here.
00:46Geelong away.
00:48Loss.
00:49Hawthorne home.
00:50Loss.
00:51Frio away.
00:52Loss.
00:53Collingwood home.
00:54Win.
00:55And then I'll throw in the next two, make it six weeks.
00:57Adelaide away.
00:58Loss.
00:59Dogs at home.
01:01Draw.
01:02Draw.
01:04Probably a win.
01:05I've got two and four.
01:06Two and four.
01:07So that puts them in a very precarious situation.
01:09They'll be lucky to qualify for the wildcard at that stage.
01:12So they're a fascinating beast.
01:13What's happened to the Gold Coast Suns?
01:15Yeah, well, they haven't really beaten anything of note, have they?
01:17They started well.
01:19I reckon they're a side that's just got ahead of themselves
01:21after what happened in Perth in the final against Frio.
01:25So good on them.
01:26They celebrated like it was 1999 all over again.
01:29It was Prince, party sort of action, turn of the century stuff.
01:33But good luck to them.
01:34Yeah.
01:34But I just think they got ahead of themselves.
01:37They brought in Petrarca and I thought, well, we'll just top up.
01:39We've got Jamara.
01:40We've got blah, blah, blah.
01:42You know, we've got a good coach.
01:43We're ready to go.
01:44So I think the injury to Rowell in the state of origin impacted.
01:48When you look back at that state of origin, to be honest,
01:51everyone's forgotten about it.
01:52It was a novelty exhibition game that has had telling ramifications
01:57on the competition.
01:58It was not a great event, to be honest.
02:01Well, it was a great event.
02:02Well, it was an event.
02:03It was a great event.
02:04Look, it was an event.
02:04It'll be happening again.
02:06You're still remembering or you're still upset at certain decisions.
02:10Everyone's forgotten the game.
02:11But try talking to Matty Rowell about it and the other injuries
02:14that came out of it.
02:15Yeah.
02:15Well, Matty Rowell lost a fair chunk of the first half of the season
02:18for his finger issues.
02:19Sam Taylor, of course, at the Giants with his hamstring just back
02:22in the system.
02:23And that's right.
02:24So you've got to have your good players.
02:25So we know that.
02:25We've talked about that through the year on Six Points.
02:27You need to have your good players out there if you're going to compete
02:29week in, week out in this competition.
02:31Matt Rowell hasn't been there.
02:32But largely, they haven't had too many injuries.
02:35So it's been a pretty lackluster performance.
02:36Humphrey's gone quiet.
02:37Humphrey's gone quiet.
02:38I mean, Petrarca set the world on fire in the first couple
02:41of weeks of the game before that hamstring injury.
02:43Hasn't quite recaptured it to that point again.
02:45Haven't seen enough through their midfield.
02:47Noah Anderson's been relatively disappointing for a really good player.
02:50Miller hasn't been the same.
02:51Their outside runners haven't had the impact, particularly from halfback,
02:54Riola Noble.
02:55They haven't had the impact.
02:56And their key forwards are spasmodic.
02:58So it's a real watch at the moment, the Gold Coast Suns.
03:00So where do you see King?
03:02I mean, he's kicking goal.
03:03He's leading the goal.
03:04I know, but a lot of people haven't got him in the All-Australian.
03:07So it's all right to lead out, kick you four goals,
03:10and not do a lot much else.
03:11I mean, there's more to it.
03:12I suppose all you can do is kick goals.
03:15That's his job to kick snags.
03:16Is there second efforts there?
03:17Is there tackling?
03:19Is there setting up?
03:20Are you suggesting he's checked out and he might be on the move?
03:22No, I don't think he's checked out.
03:23I wouldn't be surprised if he's on the move.
03:25And if you super pick up for Collingwood,
03:27you saw the forward line at Collingwood yesterday.
03:29They had to work, scrounge for everything, didn't they?
03:32The lack of talent in that forward line is extraordinary
03:34when you take out Elliott and Hill.
03:36Which means they're really well coached, in my view,
03:39because they haven't got a heap forward of the footy,
03:41even around the footy, outside of Nick Dacos,
03:43they haven't got a lot to support.
