00:00It's the calm before the storm 15,000 fresh graduates will roll in ready to ditch their
00:11textbooks for a week of fun on Surfers Paradise Beach and just like in previous years authorities
00:18will be out in force to keep them safe.
00:21We are here for the entire duration of the event and looking forward to working with
00:26the other departments behind me here in providing a response to our school leavers.
00:31We're confident we'll be providing a safe environment for all our schoolies and we wish them the best
00:35of luck for the schoolies event and into the future.
00:38But this year the party will be toned down.
00:41It's been scaled back because of the erosion caused by tropical cyclone Alfred and there
00:46will be no pill testing after that was scrapped by the state government.
00:51Organisers say there will still be plenty of activities for them to do with yoga by the
00:56beach and the first ever schoolies run club to cater to the growing number of young people
01:02wanting to do wholesome daytime activities instead of being hungover.
01:07Kids are still going to come unstuck and there will still be trips and falls and spills.
01:11We're here to help and we hope we send them all home fit and well.
01:14We hope you'll see you next week.
