00:27The stories that matter, clear and credible, from across the country to around the world.
00:33These are your unbiased updates from Straight Arrow.
00:39Good morning, I'm Craig DeGrelli.
00:41The war in Iran has reached its 100th day.
00:44And the already fragile ceasefire is under new strain after Israel and Iran traded fresh attacks overnight.
00:51President Trump is urging both countries to, quote, immediately stop shooting as the fighting threatens to unravel the truce.
00:59Iran is blaming the United States for the latest escalation.
01:02A foreign ministry spokesperson said nobody believes Israel acts without coordination from Washington
01:08and warned the U.S. would bear responsibility for the consequences.
01:12Iranian officials say Israeli strikes damaged a petrochemical plant in the country's southwest
01:18and a military complex in northern Iran.
01:21Meanwhile, the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen claim responsibility for an attack on what they called sensitive Israeli targets.
01:30The Houthis also announced a ban on Israeli ships traveling through the Red Sea, a critical global shipping route.
01:37Israel's military says its forces targeted truck-mounted surface-to-air missile launchers in separate strikes.
01:44As of this morning, the exchanges were still continuing.
01:48This morning, police are trying to determine what sparked a stabbing attack inside New York's Penn Station that left six
01:55people injured.
01:56The violence broke out just after 7 p.m. Sunday inside one of the nation's busiest transit hubs beneath Madison
02:03Square Garden.
02:04Authorities say one person suffered serious injuries, while four others were hospitalized with minor to moderate wounds.
02:12Medics rushed a sixth victim to a separate hospital, though that person's condition has not been released.
02:18Amtrak police took one suspect into custody.
02:21Officials say the person is believed to have a history of mental health issues.
02:25The attack happened as Madison Square Garden prepares to host Game 3 of the NBA Finals tonight, with President Trump
02:32expected to attend.
02:33One local resident says violence and disorder have become a familiar concern at Penn Station.
02:40Yeah, and I don't want to say that it's par for the course for Penn Station, but I think the
02:44chaos of this and things similar to this is sort of becoming regular,
02:49which is scary as someone who uses Penn Station and J Transit frequently.
02:54So it's alarming, but the fact that when I heard the news, I was shocked but not completely surprised because
03:02this isn't the first time something like this has happened.
03:05New York City Mayor Zoran Mondami condemned the attack, calling it horrific and an act of unacceptable violence.
03:12Governor Kathy Hochul also weighed in, calling the stabbing senseless and pledging to continue efforts to make New Yorkers feel
03:19safe.
03:21Elsewhere, more than a dozen people are dead and hundreds injured after a powerful 7.8-magnitude earthquake struck the
03:28southern Philippines.
03:30The quake hit just after 7.30 this morning local time in the Mindanao region.
03:35Buildings collapsed across the area, and authorities say key roads, bridges, and other infrastructure in and around General Santos City
03:42sustained major damage.
03:44The earthquake also triggered a tsunami of up to three feet, damaging at least one coastal village.
03:50Smaller waves were detected in Indonesia, Palau, and as far away as southern Japan.
03:55The quake struck just as students were returning to class for the start of the new school year.
04:01One video posted to social media shows children crouching outdoors as the ground shakes beneath them.
04:07In another incident, the roof of a high school building collapsed while students were gathered outside on the school's sports
04:14field.
04:14No injuries were reported.
04:16However, the Philippines Office of Civil Defense says at least 19 people were killed in the earthquake.
04:22Most in collapsed buildings and landslides, and thousands of residents are now displaced from their homes.
04:29Politics now.
04:30Democrats in Maine head to the polls tomorrow with their Senate primary suddenly focused on Graham Plattner's past.
04:37As much as his campaign, Plattner remains the favorite to win the Democratic nomination and take on Republican Senator Susan
04:44Collins this fall.
04:45But a series of reports about his treatment of women continues to follow him into the final hours of the
04:51race.
04:52Last week, the New York Times published allegations from former girlfriends who described Plattner as volatile and at times physically
04:59intimidating.
05:00Plattner denies any physical abuse and says he's been open about mistakes he made during a difficult period in his
05:07life.
05:07The controversy dominated the Sunday shows.
05:10California Congressman Roe O'Connor, who campaigned with Plattner in Maine on Friday, criticized the candidate's past behavior but said
05:18many voters had already weighed those concerns.
05:21His actions were misogynistic, they were shameful, they were wrong, but they didn't come as a surprise to a lot
05:27of the folks in Maine.
05:29And the Maine voters that I met said they don't like it, they knew that he had these chapters, they
05:35are willing to extend him grace and redemption, and they're focused now on what he's running for.
05:40Obviously, look, if there was evidence of violence, I would not support him.
05:46If there was evidence of sexual assault, I'd have zero support for him.
05:51Virginia Senator Mark Warner offered a more cautious response on Fox News.
05:55Listen, if these allegations are true, they're very troubling.
06:01But I don't know if they're true or not.
06:03I think, frankly, the people in Maine ought to decide that.
06:05I guess they'll have a chance on Tuesday.
06:07Supporters argue Plattner has taken responsibility for his past and deserves the chance to move forward.
06:13I think Grant Plattner is an amazing brave man.
06:17I think he's been through a lot.
06:19I think he has found flaws in himself that he's willing to recognize.
06:23How many times do we hear something like this and the only response is, that's a lie, that's fake news.
06:30It's refreshing to have someone actually own up to stuff that they've done and say, yeah, that wasn't such a
06:38great idea.
06:39I'm working to be a better person.
06:41Tomorrow's primary will determine whether Democrats move ahead with Plattner as their candidate in one of the party's top Senate
06:48pickup opportunities this year.
06:49Democrats need to flip four seats in November to win control of the Senate.
06:54The UFC's planned fight night at the White House next weekend is facing a legal challenge just days before the
07:01event.
07:02Crews are already building the venue on the South Lawn for the June 14th cage matches,
07:07which President Trump has promoted as part of the nation's 250th birthday celebration.
07:12The date also coincides with Trump's 80th birthday.
07:15Now two Virginia residents, including a Vietnam vet, are suing to stop it.
07:21The lawsuit argues the White House is being used for a private, for-profit sporting event that was never properly
07:28authorized.
07:29Plaintiffs also dispute the administration's claim that the UFC event qualifies as an official America 250 celebration.
07:37Quote,
07:37The event is neither for the celebration of the 250th anniversary of American independence,
07:43nor, crucially, being planned, organized, and executed by the federal government.
07:48The complaint alleges the event could financially benefit UFC President Dana White and Trump,
07:54citing Trump's investment in UFC's parent company and reports of million-dollar VIP packages.
07:59One plaintiff, Vietnam veteran Paul Romano, says using the Lincoln Memorial for fighter weigh-ins is inappropriate.
08:07Quote,
08:08The Lincoln Memorial is sacred ground, and it honors everyone who has ever worn this country's uniform.
08:14Using it as a backdrop for a for-profit cage fight so the President and his friends can make money
08:20is a desecration.
08:21In his statement to The Hill, the White House called the lawsuit baseless and says the event is no different
08:27than other gatherings held on White House grounds.
08:31Finally this morning, Madison Square Garden is getting ready for one of its biggest nights in decades.
08:37The Knicks host Game 3 of the NBA Finals tonight, their first home finals game since 1999.
08:43And with President Trump expected to attend, security is ramped up both inside and outside the arena.
08:49The NYPD has canceled a planned watch party outside Madison Square Garden, where thousands of fans were expected to gather.
08:57The decision follows Friday night's Game 2 win over San Antonio.
09:01When fans flooded the streets around the arena, police made at least two dozen arrests,
09:06with some people charged after refusing to leave or climbing light poles during the celebration.
09:11Trump said last week he planned to attend either Game 3 or Game 4
09:16after receiving an invitation from Knicks owner James Dolan.
09:19The White House schedule now shows the President attending tonight's game.
09:24That visit is triggering a major security operation involving federal, state, and local law enforcement.
09:31Authorities are warning of a heightened threat environment.
09:34ABC News reports an NYPD Intelligence Bulletin says malicious actors may view a high-profile event,
09:41like the NBA Finals, as an attractive target for violence or disruption.
09:46All right, before we head out, here's what we're tracking today.
09:48Apple kicks off its annual developer conference at 5 Eastern,
09:52where the company is expected to unveil software updates, including the latest plans for Siri.
09:58That same hour in Texas, Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins holds a briefing on efforts to stop
10:04the New World screwworm fly before it can threaten U.S. cattle herds.
10:09Tonight at 8.30, President Trump heads to Madison Square Garden for Game 3 of the NBA Finals
10:15between the Spurs and the Knicks.
