00:32doesn't act.
00:35The stories that matter, clear and credible, from across the country to around the world.
00:41These are your unbiased updates from Straight Arrow.
00:47Good morning, I'm Craig DeGrelli. This morning we're getting dramatic new video from Kuwait.
00:52As questions grow about whether peace talks between the U.S. and Iran are making any progress.
00:58Officials in Kuwait say its international airport came under drone and missile attack Wednesday, killing one person and injuring dozens
01:06more.
01:06Iran denies responsibility.
01:09The attack comes as Iran's foreign minister says there's been, quote, no tangible progress in negotiations with the United States.
01:17That's a sharp contrast to President Trump's assessment.
01:20He told reporters Wednesday a deal could be reached within days.
01:24The negotiation itself has gone very well, actually.
01:27Very well.
01:28Mr. President, it could happen.
01:29I mean, if it happens, and it might not happen, you know, who knows.
01:33But if it happens, it could happen like over the weekend.
01:35Meanwhile, fighting continues in Lebanon, despite a ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah.
01:41The United Nations says a peacekeeper was killed and two others wounded after shelling hit a U.N. base in
01:47southern Lebanon overnight.
01:48Israel and Hezbollah have accused each other of repeatedly violating the agreement, which established security zones inside Lebanon, where Hezbollah
01:57forces are not supposed to operate.
02:00In a related topic, for the first time since the war with Iran began, Congress has voted to push back
02:06on President Trump's military authority.
02:08The House passed a War Powers Resolution Wednesday calling for an end to U.S. hostilities with Iran unless Congress
02:16authorizes the conflict.
02:17The vote was 215 to 208, with these four Republicans breaking from their party to join Democrats, Thomas Massey of
02:25Kentucky, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Tom Barrett of Michigan, and Warren Davidson of North Carolina.
02:32Those four voted for the measure.
02:35The vote had been delayed last month after House leadership grew concerned Republicans didn't have the numbers to defeat it.
02:41This time, Democrats picked up enough GOP support to push it through.
02:46The resolution does not force an immediate end to the war and faces a more challenging path than the Senate,
02:52but it marks the first time either chamber of Congress has approved a War Powers measure since the conflict began
02:59in late February.
03:00A sign of growing frustration on Capitol Hill as the Trump administration tries to negotiate a deal with Tehran while
03:07keeping military pressure in place.
03:09He's been running the Justice Department for weeks, and now President Trump wants to make it permanent.
03:14Trump says he will nominate Todd Blanche to serve as the next U.S. Attorney General.
03:20Blanche has been serving as acting Attorney General since April, when Trump fired Pam Bondi and elevated him from Deputy
03:26Attorney General.
03:27Before joining the administration, Blanche was one of Trump's personal defense attorneys and represented him in several high-profile criminal
03:34cases.
03:35The president announced his plans during a private event at the White House, predicting a quick confirmation process.
03:41He's acting Attorney General, and tomorrow I'm instructing Dan and everybody else that's involved in that very complicated process,
03:49which is going to go, I think, very quickly, that we are going to make him permanent Attorney General.
03:54If confirmed by the Senate, Blanche would take over the job after just over a month as acting Attorney General.
04:00His nomination comes days after the Justice Department abandoned plans for a controversial $1.8 billion anti-weaponization fund
04:08that had drawn criticism from both parties on Capitol Hill.
04:12This morning, a dire warning.
04:14If Congress does not act, millions of Americans could see their Social Security checks reduced by hundreds of dollars a
04:21month in just a few years.
04:23A new analysis warns the program's retirement trust fund is on track to run out of money by the end
04:29of 2032.
04:30If that happens, benefits would not disappear, but they would be cut.
04:35The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget estimates the average retiree would lose about $500 a month
04:42or roughly a 24% reduction in benefits.
04:46No state would escape the impact.
04:48Look at this.
04:49The biggest average cuts would hit states including Connecticut, New Jersey, New Hampshire, Delaware, Washington, and Minnesota,
04:55where retirees could lose more than $550 a month.
05:00The warning comes ahead of the Social Security Administration's annual trustees report, expected later this month.
05:06For now, these cuts are not automatic.
05:09Congress could step in with tax increases, benefit changes, or other fixes to keep the program solvent.
05:15But the clock is ticking.
05:17More than 60 million Americans currently receive retirement, survivor, or dependent benefits through Social Security.
05:24For the first time in decades, inspectors have detected a flesh-eating parasite in American livestock.
05:31Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins says experts have found New World screwworm larvae in a calf in South Texas,
05:39marking the first confirmed U.S. case in decades.
05:42While officials stress there is no risk to food safety, they warn the parasite can cause serious damage to cattle,
05:50other livestock, and wildlife.
05:52The screwworm was eradicated from the United States in the 1970s after causing major losses for ranchers and the livestock
06:00industry.
06:01Rollins and other agriculture officials have been sounding the alarm about the flies' movement across Mexico toward the U.S.
06:08for more than a year.
06:09And we all, as you know, have been talking and tracking and working around the clock to contain it.
06:15But we have not, Mexico, with the illicit movement of cattle and not having enough sterile flies, certainly has led
06:23us to today, June 3rd, 2026,
06:26the U.S. confirming its first New World screwworm case in the state of Texas since 1966.
06:33To prevent any further spread, the USDA has established a 12-mile quarantine zone around the detection site
06:41and restricted the movement of warm-blooded animals in the area unless they are inspected.
06:46Rollins says no other cases have been detected in the country, but federal and state officials are now increasing surveillance
06:52in South Texas.
06:54Finally this morning, Elon Musk is getting ready for what could be one of the biggest stock market debuts in
07:01history.
07:01When SpaceX goes public later this month, the company is expected to raise about $75 billion.
07:08SpaceX plans to sell more than 500 million shares at $135 apiece in its initial public offering.
07:16That would value the rocket company at nearly $1.8 trillion.
07:20Are you following the numbers here?
07:22Making it one of the most valuable companies on the planet.
07:26Musk would also retain more than 80% of the company's voting power.
07:30Forbes currently estimates his net worth at about $826 billion.
07:36If the IPO performs as expected, analysts say Musk could become the first person ever to cross the $1 trillion
07:44mark.
07:45Guess he won't be needing Social Security.
07:49Wow.
07:49All right, before we head out, here's what we're tracking today.
07:52New jobless claims numbers are out this morning, giving the latest snapshot on the labor market.
07:57In Taiwan, a candlelight vigil marks the 37th anniversary of the Tiananmen Square crackdown.
08:03That's at 9 Eastern.
08:05Later in Washington, planners are set to review President Trump's proposal for a triumphal arch in the nation's capital.
08:12At 3, President Trump is expected to make an announcement on, quote, beautiful, clean coal.
