00:00Hey guys, so we're still in Furano in Hokkaido and this day started off being checked out by this character
00:12So he's not being a very sly fox is he, sitting out in the open like that, pretty comfortable
00:18Sitting out in the open having a look at us
00:23We saw lots of foxes, Hokkaido is just amazing for wildlife just all over the place
00:31So I did see quite a few foxes
00:34But that's not the main mission today, the main mission is to go up here into the mountains and look
00:39for fossils
00:40So there's a tour organised by a company that specialises in this
00:46The guy carries a can of bear spray because bears abound in Hokkaido
00:54And particularly in this part apparently up in the mountain there's quite a lot
00:57So there's the guy there at the front
01:00Taking us down to this very nice river
01:07And they don't actually do this in winter of course
01:09So this was their first tour for this year
01:15So sort of lucky for us
01:19So I think you guys will agree that just looks like a pile of rocks right?
01:23But the gentleman is a good eye for these things
01:27So he'd pick one up and say here have a look at this one
01:30Open up this one
01:32And sure enough
01:34Pretty well everyone he handed us had something in it
01:38So a bit hard to see but there are all sorts of sea creatures
01:42So shellfish and things like that
01:44Apparently three million years old
01:47Approximately
01:49But what a location isn't it beautiful?
01:54Great place to spend the morning this was
01:56As you can imagine
01:59Just the sound of the river and
02:01The hitting of hammers on rocks
02:09Beautiful spot
02:13So we found a few
02:14He was pretty good
02:15He knew what he was doing
02:16Here open this one he'd say
02:18Just hand over a rock and we'd open it up
02:24So we of course we've never done this before
02:26It was a new thing for us
02:28So we didn't know what we were doing
02:31But that's a good example isn't it
02:42So we're surprised
02:43How many there were
02:45How many he could find
02:47So he knew what they all were
02:49I wish I could remember all the names
02:50All the things he told us
02:51But there's a good example
02:52You can see that one quite clearly can't you
02:54Like some sort of giant snail or something
02:57Maybe
03:01You can see that's cracked open
03:02You've got one half there on the right
03:04And it's mirror on the left
03:09And just before we go
03:10We saw deer tracks
03:12On the side of the river
03:14Which isn't surprising
03:15Because we saw a lot of deer
03:17Anyway
