00:00turns 10 and 11 and then you got to back turn 12 carry the speed on the exit
00:04use all the width of the circuit through the swimming pool section
00:07he's lost a bit of time one and a half tenths down
00:11and rascas there's an alpine in front of him
00:17but he got out of the way to see that just got out of the way in time
00:20to give antonedi a clear run into antony noge but still not a great last sector for him
00:26the fifth fastest going for his fifth grand prix victory and a fifth grand prix victory
00:32for a man already fifth on the list of all-time wins in formula one for italian drivers that has
00:38been the few weeks that kimmy antonelli has had canada of course his first win not from pole
00:44position in formula one two charles claire a man who has won here on the streets of monte carlo
00:51uh was second last year uh won the year before that got polled in 2022 and finished fourth when
00:58ferrari didn't get their strategy right on the day yeah he's not on a push lap here but still
01:02when he went through the hairpin with his hands all over the place he still managed to take his
01:08right hand away from the wheel and change the middle rotor did you spot that as well bernie nodding
01:13i thought that was pretty impressive well i think it's one of those things that it's only somewhere
01:18like here you've got it's nice slow camera angle you know the hairpin you can really see what they're
01:22doing on the steering wheel and then they make that switch position and it's one of those things
01:26i'll give you a bit of credit on this is engineering type go oh we'd like you to make that
01:31switch change
01:31a few meters earlier a few meters later and then you don't realize you know how much overhead it is
01:37and these drivers to get it done so it's really nice to be able to see it here and we've
01:41done a lot
01:41focusing on the exit of the swimming pool chicane what about the entry martin brunel
01:50absolutely yeah it's not a great place to dive in that's for sure down there but
01:55there's enough downforce because they're doing well over uh 200 kilometers per hour
02:02it squashes them down but we have seen you've talked about it in commentary jensen's talked about it
02:07in the chicane i have seen so many near misses while we've been driving around and walking around the
02:15track drivers up against the barriers cars sliding into quarters out of quarters through quarters
02:22sometimes jumping off this curb you can see where they hit the ground through the exit and just keep it
02:28pin there goes the ferrari what i cannot believe i used to do this sort of thing but i tell
02:33you what
02:34i've got so much respect for the drivers out there as to what they're doing how they're threading
02:41the eye of a needle at these speeds with that amount of relentless power as the car hits the ground
02:47you kind of trust that it will stick and then get ready to slow it down immediately utterly brilliant
02:54to see them coming through here i don't know if we've got anybody else coming but uh uh just just
02:59just thrilling but there are i can't believe we've not had a few more of them in the barrier as
03:06the
03:07mercedes red pool comes steaming through here and the one remaining mclaren and uh just fantastic
03:14look at that sparking of the mercedes and it just disappears through the exit of the swimming pool
03:19basically like there's barely a corner down there incredible back to you thanks a lot martin excellent
03:28stuff they are properly flat through that swimming pool chicane and the entry to it marvelous to see
03:35it really is charlotte claire has gone quickest by five hundredths of a second from max verstappen
03:40sergio perez is kissing the arm go uh george russell lewis hamilton and kimmy antonelli completing the top
03:46five this is oscar piastri down towards sandavotte in the first corner there is a bit of debris on
03:52the main straight yeah there's some zipplery on the front straight that just came off the cadillac i
03:57think just said that oscar well spotted look like a bit of tape has come uh someone scraped the barriers
04:04again yeah well it could be the catalogue has at times lost a few parts so it could be that
04:11as well but
04:12it has been there for a few laps i didn't notice it on an onboard from someone else and then
04:16just for the eagle-eyed at home i can guarantee you that it is not raining in monocle for stopping
04:22is showing up as on a wet tire but i do believe that that is false information because it's definitely
04:29not raining in front of me out of the commentary box and i believe to run a wet tire in
04:34this session
04:34the track needs to be cleared wet so i just ignore that for now more on the weather in a
04:38couple of
04:38six uh piastri to the finish line in the moment but lewis hamilton behind him is on an absolute
04:43flyer that was so good uh through the swimming pool uh part of the lap uh oscar piastri sixth
04:50fastest hamilton could go quickest overall here and does by a tenth of a second from his teammate
04:55charle claire in the sunshine of monaco i checked the weather forecast before you came up here i went
05:00blimey it's gonna rain tomorrow ah this could be interesting and got all excited and then i realized
05:05i've checked the weather forecast for the download festival next weekend and to know if i need to
05:09bring my wellies or not fear not it might rain a little bit at donington park it ain't gonna rain
05:16in monaco tomorrow yeah i've learned over the years is never say never in monaco the forecasts are all
05:23for a lovely sunny weekend and consistent conditions but monaco can throw anything at you so just be ready
05:29it's gonna be bright sunshine because i haven't brought a coat thanks so much birdie uh we have
05:33probably got uh one more set of uh qualifying runs uh to go in a moment but uh it's two
05:39ferraris
05:40out in front 1 13 0 lewis hamilton 10th off charles claire 10th and a bit off max verstappen
05:47half a second off russell and antonelli piastri six norris not in the session
05:59franco colopinto 23rd birthday on the wednesday after the canadian grand prix he might have got the
06:06bumps 23 of them he's had a big bump just the one of them into the barrier at sandoval and
06:12that that's
06:13a fairly hefty whack for the front and rear suspension to take they'll want to check the
06:17gearbox over after that i thought yeah exactly they will do but they're the main priority i think
06:23will be the the left front first of all and uh look at that for how close the marshals are
06:28to that
06:29great reaction yeah um but yeah i just feel like he he did have enough time to bail out of
06:38it the lock
06:38up came so early and he would have seen the fact he had stopped rotating and it's it's hard to
06:44commit
06:44to a corner when you've got that amount of of lock up going on it was it was never really
06:49going to slow
06:49down in time jensen button back down to you in a bit late hello yes we're outside franco's garage
06:56um obviously he's been on a bit of a run hasn't he in a good way over the last couple
07:00of races but this
07:01will uh hurt him a little bit mostly mostly because of confidence but also track time they just they're
07:05looking at the front suspension at the moment they've been lifting um lifting the front of the
07:10car uh but that's about it so far you know they've been twisting also the um the suspension to see
07:16if there's any movement uh but it all looks like it's in the right position but they're still still
07:22checking thanks jv they've got them strong and still in your right outscored and outqualified his
07:27teammate pierre gasly over the last couple of races and canada sixth place finish was a career best
07:33for franco color i was just going to pick up there crafty if you see the front left on that
07:38suspension i was looking at it because it's so pink and most of the car is pink and i was
07:42like
07:42if they colored that in some way but it's just the flow is that they were running on that front
07:46left suspension so i wonder if they were on that run testing something that they were trying to get an
08:14out of people's way and choosing bizarre spots on the circuit to not carry enough speed he's the he's
08:22there there you go he does know this track through f2 of course but uh yeah first time here in
08:29a
08:29formula one car and learning the hard way in many ways he'll have a few drivers maybe in driver's
08:34briefing coming up to him after today and just saying yeah don't just just if you're going through
08:40the middle of a blind corner it's not a good idea to be on the on the racing line limping
08:45around but
08:45and he did he called out was it declare no piastri in fp1 in the middle of tabac and piastri
08:51had to
08:52bail out that lap as well i mean no harm done in terms of any clashes or or or incidents
08:58where
08:58cars are hitting each other but it's uh yeah album was absolutely right to get on the radio there it's
09:04not really the place to to carry such little speed on the on the racing line think back to your
09:10monoco
09:11how intimidated were you up against drivers with way more experience trying to keep out of the way and
09:19then do the job you've got to do as well it is tough and it's always hard being in the
09:23car that's
09:24that's it's a huge responsibility and in many ways for a rookie driver it's a it's another skill that you
09:31have to focus on and learn that you wouldn't need to if you're in a faster car so they've got
09:37even more
09:38on their plate than than some drivers that are lucky enough to be in in faster machinery so uh yeah
09:45that it's a huge skill to get right because you don't want to lose time in a racing sense when
09:49you
09:49got the blue flags you've got a car behind you creeping up you you don't really want to lose
09:53you can gain so much time in a race by not losing out on blue flags as someone's doing here
10:00someone's
10:00left something in the way and louis does he want the jack under the car or
10:09i don't think ferrari were ready asking for a wing adjust so he's asking for the front wing adjust
10:14he's not happy with the angles he wants to go up on the front flap but i'm not sure why
10:19he's not
10:20communicated that on the radio before he came in and why the guys weren't ready for it because
10:25the normal procedure is he complains to his race engineer complains i say
10:33and they'll decide okay we'll do a wing adjust come in well you know whatever it is half a turn
10:39one turn however they different teams of different terminology generally it's programmed into those
10:44guns the guys connect the guns and the turns happens because what you don't want is you don't want it
10:49asymmetric what i mean by that is one side turning more than the other so the guys need to have
10:55communicated well so it's a bit unusual for him to come in to the pit stop do some sort of
11:00hand
11:00signal and then someone to adjust the wing that way carlos santi carlos santi lewis is a race
11:07engineer and he actually praised the communication between the two of them and said yeah part of my
11:12mini revival as it were in recent weeks it's down to the other communication i'm now having and i'm
11:16feeling much happier with it but ferrari definitely weren't ready for lewis to come in and make a
11:22front wing flap adjustment on that occasion no absolutely not because they still had bits and pieces
11:27all over in the path of the car coming in after lewis like you say bird he should have uh
11:33just passed on
11:35that information i'm sure he did pass on information that i'm coming in need to make a flap adjust
11:38to go up and then they seemed completely surprised that his arrival very odd it looked like something
11:45you put your pizza box in when you're doing a little delivery that was lying on the floor it obviously
11:51wasn't what was it a wheel gun what do you want me to start with so let's start with the
11:55big pizza box
11:56delivery cover the silver bit yeah so that is a cover for the that is a cover for the wheel
12:02gun that
12:02was the cover that they put on the wheel gun it keeps it at the right temperature it hides it
12:06from
12:06the prionays eyes of the media stops gents looking over and seeing what's happening in it so that's that
12:11bit i have one thing that i've remembered now that i want to bring to ferrari's defense monaco is unique
12:17in many many ways and one of the ways it is unique is that the pit wall is above the
12:22garage and it used
12:23to be that the garage is these great big metal doors that open up and there was a time where
12:28communication between the pit wall and the garage so downstairs is very tricky right so you can make
12:34a call on the radio and the guys downstairs don't hear it so it could be something a bit unique
12:39like
12:39that i've called pit stops from the top floor and it's not been heard downstairs oh wow and that was
12:45lance stroll escaping the barriers and then locking up and he very nearly went on in 48 and hit the
12:52barrier yeah and also down there in newville chicane just happening so late that front lockup it doesn't
12:58look right so they had rear locking which caught alonzo out in fp1 now it's front locking there's
13:04something not right is there's not a happy balance i would imagine just purely speculation from
13:10not being involved in the team at all from what i see looks like there's an imbalance between
13:15the mg uk the motor generating unit kinetic and the mechanical brakes on the car something's not in
13:22sync there we've been thinking that as you said earlier ever since the bahrain test ever since that
13:26bahrain test where lance straw went spinning off at high speed into turn 11 it hasn't looked comfortable
13:32and you just need that integration with the mg uk and and the mechanical brakes it's of all circuits
13:39where you want it to be married well together is here in monaco so yeah so just to explain that
13:47a
13:47little bit what that means there is obviously you've got the battery and how the engine regenerates
13:52electricity and it does that through breaking through slowing the car down on the rear and that results in
13:58how we have it now when the rear slows down it's a combination of the engine and the physical brakes
14:05so both need to work together at various temperatures various brake pedal pressures depending on what the
14:12driver's demanding so it's that combination on the rear the front's obviously still a pure mechanical
14:17brake like you have in your new car at last stroll by the way the driver that made the overtake
14:23after
14:24lap one in last year's monaco grand prix he got past nico hülkenberg on the last lap that was your
14:30one and only overtake after the first lap do you want to hazard a guess as to when was the
14:36last time
14:37we had a mid-race pass for the lead in a monaco grand prix and if you get this i
14:42will definitely buy
14:43you with both of their at rascast later tonight i'm not going to get this but i'm going to pull
14:48you up on
14:49the last lap potentially not coming under the umbrella of mid-race but okay no but i'm just
14:54going i'm going on to mid-race so this is for the lead right the leader mid-race lead overtake
14:59in a
15:00monaco grand prix when was the last time when we had a pass mid-race for the league well
15:07wasn't it the year when the staffen got past lewis and then had to give the place back so he
15:13he did
15:14that kind of well doesn't it count oh you have to you have to hang on to the position yeah
15:18it's not
15:19an overtake it's not even though he got in front of the other car no it's not because he's had
15:24to
15:24give the position back even though it was like you know for a really short space of time when was
15:28the
15:28last time we had a goal decide a a football match oh was it when they ref disallowed one no
15:35the answer is i'm only trying to wind you up 1985 michaeli alberetto overtook alan frost on lap 24
15:42at sandoval frost won the race but michaeli alberetto made that pass last time we had a mid-race
15:48change of lead due to an overtake i wasn't born then i'm using that as my defense
15:54oh that's obvious and i was only six that's not obvious that's that's less obvious that you were
16:0326. time has not weathered well time has weathered very well for antony divas and i'm an offended
16:10there it's weathered well for nico holkinberg uh 38 years of age still going strong and in the top 10
16:19once again and you'd have to say audi best of the rest sorry i have to say audi what after
16:24oh yeah
16:26very good audi audi are well binotto came out to say we predict we've got the fourth best chassis
16:33and i thought a bit of a punchy comment that but i won't disagree and look at them here eighth
16:39and
16:40ninth i would say best of the rest and there is messes that's weird as soon as i mentioned his
16:45name
16:45there he is on the screen maybe you have got the fourth best chassis but what i find particularly
16:53strange on that one aunt is we explained earlier why we think ferrari are strong this weekend part of it
16:59is to do with the having the small turbo and lots of what we talked about for audi has been
17:04having
17:04a big turbo that's been a lot of what we discussed about from the id initially and yet
17:10that here they are so makes sense look at that yeah more chassis than turbo more chassis than turbo
17:17potentially so why are ferrari so quick more and maybe more driver than turbo or chassis i don't know
17:24it i i'm really i can't wait to see how this is going to shake out this weekend because i
17:30do i still
17:31believe that we're going to get a driver or maybe more than just one in qualifying q3 where it all
17:39just
17:39hooks up they hit the sweet spot and they get the perfect lap and somebody throws the surprise like we
17:46had a couple of years ago and was it offcon put it p3 yeah it seemed to be out of
17:49nowhere in the alpine
17:51and i just kind of feel like this year might be one of those years 2023 esteban o'con started
17:58third
17:58and finished third and i was going to say looking at those that i think have had a good afternoon
18:05isaac hadjar in p6 now i know he's a second off the pace that that is quite a lot here
18:12at monaco but
18:13to be top six given he started late was a bit out of sync with it with everyone else and
18:19he's had to
18:19recover from that accident in fp1 i think that's a really good effort from him arvid limblad once
18:25again has a car behind him that was going much faster and the mclaren has backed off a little
18:31bit of oscar piastri so i think what might be happening is that arvin limbaugh might be on
18:37a potential little long run and if he's on a timed lap that is not a slow lap even if
18:44that time
18:45lap is six seconds off the pace because it's high fuel he is not obliged to move out of the
18:50way what's
18:50going on here smoky fire extinguisher dry ice still in there no that wouldn't be the case is it coming
18:58from the brakes the front right there's it's yeah on fire look the disc is the disc is on fire
19:03it's
19:03glowing orange rubbing isn't it and that's why he's slowing down at casino oh we've got to get out
19:07there quick yeah yeah this is very difficult now because as soon as you stop putting air through it
19:11it'll really escalate and he's on a slope as well so so there are times when actually you need to
19:17slow down but keep moving to try and keep air going through it red flag and it's a strange one
19:23isn't
19:24it and that thinks he's parked on an upslope there yeah he said some marshals come and come and put
19:29a
19:29block under it so i can actually get out of this and now fire extinguisher please yeah you've got one
19:34in
19:34your hands fire extinguisher red flag there you go
19:43that's where having the experience of sergio perez really comes in handy
19:48because that was only going to escalate wasn't it with the heat soak as soon as you have less air
19:52flowing through the brake ducts it just it's a runaway situation and my experience actually
19:58czech was really good at this we've had instances in baku where the car is stopped and he's
20:03literally waited with the car to make sure they push it where he wants it to go to make sure
20:09the car gets
20:10back into the garage so you know it is good there to get that in but it's such such a
20:14tight little
20:15the gaps around the brakes are so tight so well packaged and that you just need to keep an eye
20:20on that for a moment to make sure that it's still not got a little bit of um fire within
20:24it that's
20:24the end of any meaningful running in this session as well and i'll try and get the cars out for
20:28a practice
20:29start uh on the grid sergio perez was down in p18 something rubbing something not quite
20:40right on the brake we saw the smoke i did wonder if it was the fire extinguisher within the cockpit
20:44first but it was probably coming to the wrong place but how much damage has that done
20:50sergio wanted to look at his car and being told by the marshals no just just keep back a touch
20:54please
20:55i think to be honest a front brake it's very isolated on that front corner so they can change
21:00the brake destiller spares of those anyway the brake drums as long as it hasn't sort of it's not got
21:05so
21:06hot that it's affected some of the suspension or the suspension whitens then all of that corner they
21:10should be able to deal with pretty quickly i would say bernie why wouldn't they have boxed him earlier
21:17because surely they would have with their sensors on these things they would have seen that it was
21:21overheating there's lots of sensors and i hope jensen is listening because i have this standout
21:27memory from 2014 when i worked with jensen and mclaren when that car came back into the garage and i
21:33was
21:33buried head deep in my data looking at the front to brake duct sensor i know these brakes are fine
21:40they're definitely not too hot the sensors reading whatever the center was it was in the limits it all
21:45locked christy and my manager at the time had to say to me oh how about you just turn around
21:50and look
21:51at the car in the garage because the front brake you could at that point i could smell it the
21:55brakes
21:55were on fire and we burned through the sensor and gone to default value so you can't always trust the
22:02sensors is what i'm saying on despite my love of engineering and data you can't always trust the data
22:07well there's the 2022 monaco grand prix winner copy that box box box box box no i need to stop
22:15yeah
22:17he was in the wrong part of the track to be bringing it back with sergio um bernie thank you
22:21for giving
22:22us the benefit of your enjoyment of looking at screens for the past 58 minutes go and look at the
22:28view
22:28outside natalie is requesting your presence please somewhere down on the other side
22:35uh yeah so the 2022 winner is out of this session the 2025 winner has been out of this session
22:42for
22:42the past 50 minutes or so uh both with mechanical problems and for lewis hamilton coming into this
22:49race after his best finish for ferrari in a grand prix it's been a pretty good afternoon the fight's on
22:56isn't it coffee the fight is on hamilton versus leclerc and this is going to be exciting i i do
23:03believe
23:04it's going to boil down to those two leclerc has always been super fast around this circuit he's got
23:10the home support of course as well and i think both drivers at ferrari and the team themselves realized
23:17that this could be their weekend but what is it we were saying uh before we came on air for
23:23fp1
23:24well ferrari yeah leclerc Hamilton hamilton leclerc gonna be a big fight but don't discount max for
23:31staff and who are the top three separated by a tenth and a half hamilton leclerc the staff yeah exactly
23:37we
23:38shouldn't we shouldn't discount step and absolutely not and uh just within two tenths of striking distance
23:46he is in this session so yeah you you don't want him breathing down your neck do you if you're
23:52either
23:53ferrari driver and he could he could very much topple both of them in q3 or at least split the
24:00ferraris it'd be fascinating to see if we were at spa we'd say what russell antonelli three ten four tenths
24:06five tenths back let's deliver the chance here but we're not we're not the longest track on the
24:12over the shortest half a second for kimmy antonelli off the pace that is a lot engineering wise to try
24:19and make up for him going into tomorrow and it looks here as well but just from looking at
24:25the grip differences between the ferraris the red bull and then the next best of the mercedes it's
24:32it doesn't look like yet that it's able to compete with him on pace so uh yeah there's there's some
24:38work
24:38to do there at brackley overnight and it's a traditional weekend of course not a sprint weekend
24:44so they got a long time as all as do all the teams to work on their simulators late into
24:50the night in
24:51the early hours of the morning no doubt to try and find extra performance and like i said before there's
24:57a lot you can do with these cars mechanically aerodynamically to to tweak the balance and find more
25:04mechanical grip mostly i think is what the mercedes seems to be missing out on we know aerodynamically
25:10the car is sound that's how it's been so successful all the way through this year so far here it's
25:15a
25:15different story you need mechanical grip by that i mean the way the car works its suspension and the
25:21tires all of the geometries that you can create uh the way the car works with its braking
25:30that that's the mechanical element the grip that i think jensen touched on earlier on when he was
25:35watching at the exit of the swimming pool chicane so aerodynamically that's usually
25:41that's usually the thing you go to first but this track you definitely need uh the car's agility to be
25:48there for you as well um and and if mercedes can make it up with adding mechanical grip and getting
25:55that
25:55right what of mclaren oscar piastri is a second back that a whole second back last year the second
26:03was back at the grid well last year the aero was such that it was so powerful that it was
26:10overcoming
26:11and totally outweighing the mechanical element of the car there's very little that you could really do
26:16with last year's cars it was a frustrating beast for engineers to try and to try and work with because
26:23it
26:24was basically all aero driven all of your performance came and all of your balance tools pretty much
26:29came from ride height changes and and aerodynamic tweaks uh of percentage front to rear so it was
26:37just super frustrating you're quite locked in with what your car could do whereas these cars are much
26:42more exciting for the engineers to to work with so uh yeah there could be big turnarounds for for
26:47tomorrow's fp3 session charlotte claire the 2024 monaco grand prix winner the first winner of a home
26:55sorry the first home winner of a monaco grand prix since louis shearon in 1931 and the first home
27:02winner of a world championship monaco grand prix ahead of him in this practice session lewis hamilton
27:09who hasn't completed a lap in the top three here since he won in 2019 a man with seven monaco
27:16podiums one
27:17short of the record held by airton senna let's watch this start
27:24look pretty good did look good sounded good there's only 115 meters from pole into the first corner
27:34from second on the grid it's 127 meters uh into the first corner where those ferraris start might get an
27:42overtake in the sand of hop this year you never know on that one oh and there's a statement absolutely
27:47hello charl i'm just gonna blast past you here this might happen in the race you know or something to
27:53that effect but that is that that is a proper statement there from lewis just practicing something
27:59just to say look yeah if i see if i see a little girl a little opportunity i can do
28:03a little dark go for
28:04it there that was a good session enjoy that thanks everyone so much and uh we've got to head down
28:10to
28:10the sky pad and these are the results from fp2 there is hamilton 10th up on uh charl mclair his
28:17teammate
28:17max mustaphan 10th and a half back for rebel very much in touch russell and antinelli with mercedes work
28:23to be done hadjar second of the place but six fastest and ahead of oscar piastri in the mclaren
28:29second to make up for the reigning constructors champions uh on a par really piastri with hulkenberg
28:35for audi and his teammate gabriel bortoletto ollie bearman into the top 10 behind them pierre gasly and
28:41carlos science alex albanarvid limblad franco colopinto might fancy their chances of a top 10 in
28:46qualifying liam lawson on the fringes of that too and then esteban occo sergio perez who had a brake
28:52issue and had to stop right at the end lando norris who had a battery issue and stopped after about
28:5710 15 minutes of the session botas and stroll bringing up the rear hamilton fastest in monaco
29:07so as with fp1 it's ferrari one two this time though lewis hamilton a tenth ahead of his teammate
29:14okay next up after us simon is uh leading the way with the f1 show at 5 15
29:22and then practice three tomorrow is at 11 15
29:26qualifying the most important one on the calendar is at 2 15
29:31and then on sunday we'll be on air at 12 30 and lights out for the monaco grand prix at
29:36two o'clock all of this to enjoy in the meantime
29:50eggs are finished eggs are finished all right we're up oh the avocado so i'll just leave
29:54i've done the avocado don't worry yeah but we need to slice it i've done the avocado you've done it
29:58done it oh yeah all right who's standing with your two chairs yeah where are my other two chairs
30:11have a look at this it was absolutely extraordinary look at the dust
30:17and the track was a little bit different back then for me this was another sports honestly
30:22uh this these guys were were crazy but it's so nice to see these these images and and to see
30:28also and appreciate how much monaco have have changed since then
30:37right yeah ali ali ali you're gonna take me home you're gonna take me home get a nice good night's
30:41sleep yeah back that way yeah it's hard to describe to people what it's like to drive around the streets
30:46of monaco you know in any race car but especially in the formula one car because it's one of the
30:50most
30:50insane tracks to drive so when you get to live here drive it and then win here it's one of
30:57the best
30:57feelings you can imagine well i was suspect that uh one of the least favorite feelings that he could
31:05imagine is uh missing out on a practice session here bernie first and foremost you look fantastic
31:11you've just printed from the comms box well thanks very much natalie thank you haven't even broken
31:15sweat very good well yeah i didn't sprint i didn't sprint i walked i was escorted lovingly
31:20down here um but yeah i think you know it is really disappointing to miss running at any grand
31:24prix is difficult for a driver i think here particularly he didn't get a soft run in which
31:30you know is what they're going to be doing all of their qualifying on tomorrow so i think lando will
31:34be thinking and it wasn't his fault it wasn't that he made a mistake it wasn't that he clipped a
31:38barrier
31:39or ran wide or anything like that so he will feel really disappointed in the fact that the cars just
31:45shut
31:46down he it's is it the same issue as what they had last week can they explain it what's going
31:52to
31:52happen um so there's so many questions for that mclaren garage to get on top of and because of the
31:57way it's shut down i don't think they'll have any of the data immediately they'll be going through it
32:00now to get back to get back on top of it so can lando you know of course someone of
32:08his experience
32:09he's a world champion now so he will get into p3 and he'll forget about it part of the back
32:14of the
32:14mind it's probably easier than if he made a mistake but a bit of work for mclaren to do that
32:19i suppose
32:19easier knowing that it is in a practice session albeit an important one unlike george russell in
32:24the race because it was reminiscent of that from canada yeah it did look exactly like that and i think
32:28the difficulty for these drivers and teams engines obviously you know we've spoke so much got a full
32:33new car here um this year you know so they need to understand it if you've got a problem we
32:39could
32:39say this is what caused it this is how we fix it this is how we protect from it that's
32:45a bit easier
32:45to understand for a driver and get your head around if there's something we go we don't know what the
32:49problem was we don't know how to stop it happening again that's a lot more of a worry um but
32:55even
32:55without that without the issues mclaren look a little bit on the back foot compared to the ferrari
33:01in particular so not only do they have to get on top of the reliability they have to get on
33:05top of
33:06how they can get give their driver the option of being on pole here putting that laugh together
33:11well a premature end to the session as well for your old friend and colleague
33:14sergio perez alarming scenes from the cockpit for him seeing the flames um on his brakes i mean you
33:21know and actually at one point didn't look like he could get out of the car yeah exactly you know
33:25it
33:25was front right break you've seen the crafty pickup on the smoke coming into the cockpit and that's
33:30initially has chaco called he said a lot of smoke in the cockpit you know his engineer came on and
33:35said well get it back that's engineer default thankfully you know chaco's wealth of experience
33:40there said no this isn't coming back this needs to stop on track now and he'll know the situation
33:46what they have spares and um so you need to stop it of course you lose some of the session
33:50but there's
33:51very little of the session left about five minutes and it saves the car so he he did the right
33:55thing i
33:55think in that situation um but again something for them to get on top of why did that break fire
34:00happen why was it not seen in data how did they prevent it happening going forward but i think the
34:05right things from from chaco there to get the car stopped okay well turn one caught a couple of the
34:09drivers out uh lewis hamilton uh glance off the wall there nothing too difficult to report i mean i suppose
34:18this track is all about kissing the wall but not colliding with it yes exactly it's very very small
34:25margins which i actually liked about the lewis hamilton one this is obviously significantly not
34:30what you're after you know that is that is getting it wrong um and the marshall just you know we
34:35all
34:35sort of feel like that when we watch that on screen but the lewis what i what i like is
34:39he just brushes
34:40the wall and he seems to take some of the paint off it or some of the dust off it
34:43but nothing else
34:44it's just giving it a little clean that's what you want you know and the drivers are told in this
34:48session build up to it slowly increase your braking zone slowly increase how you're doing it each of
34:54the corners try and get eek the left time out gradually and that's what lewis is doing he's
35:00gotten to the end of the p2 session he's kissed the wall he knows right okay that is that's a
35:04mark
35:05that's the limit that's the limit and you know that's that's what drivers want to see that's what we
35:14can possibly get it to get everything out of the car you're pushing the parameters of this at the
35:17moment i'm so worried she's going to end up in the water hopefully someone's going to tell me not to
35:21go backwards anymore at some point i'll just pull you forward i'll be a meme an instant meme wouldn't
35:25i over the end of that yeah a few more things as well i mean you know your life would
35:29be at risk
35:30if nothing else i can swim yeah all good uh quick word on the mercedes because obviously they've done
35:36incredibly well so far this season every pole every grand prix victory but they're sort of tucked in there
35:41in fourth and fifth uh flipping places from uh fp1 this morning what do you think about their chances
35:48of qualifying tomorrow yeah i think you know here we're saying ferrari have the upper hand i think
35:53the ferrari car does look strong here for a lot of reasons that we've outlined outlined particularly
35:58let's say their pu their chassis we know is very good the first is good in low speed so it's
36:04still
36:04anyone's to to get here you know it's about getting a lot together it's about the driver you get
36:08everything out of the car we see these are a strong team they'll do the work overnight and they will
36:13get that car turned around no doubt and they will give both drivers the option of being on pole and
36:17sarah and do you think the the drivers are enjoying these new cars around this circuit i think so you
36:22see all the drivers here they talk about how good it is getting the most out of it not worried
36:27so much
36:27about deployment it's all to play for isn't it are you in the f1 show as well have you got
36:31to skip
36:31across to simon we are working you hard today my love okay well don't go anywhere maybe a quick
36:36cup of tea because it's the f1 show next
36:40wow
