A 35-year-old part-time event planning assistant pleaded not guilty on Monday (May 18) to a drunk driving charge after allegedly ramming a motorcyclist along Persiaran Kota, Klang, in the early hours of May 13.

Low Kean Peng was found to have a blood alcohol content nearly four times the legal limit.

00:01A 35-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to drunk driving charges after allegedly ramming a
00:07motorcyclist while driving against traffic in the early hours of the morning. Lo Kien Peng,
00:13a part-time event planning assistant, entered his plea before Magistrate A. Cartiaini at the
00:18Magistrate's Court in Klang on Monday. The charge states that Lo was driving with a blood alcohol
00:23content of 196 milligrams per 100 milliliters of blood, nearly four times Malaysia's legal limit
00:31of 50 milligrams. The incident happened at 12.35 a.m. on May 13 along Perziaran Kota. According to
00:39police, the accused's Perodwa Beza was traveling from Port Klang towards Shah Alam, driving erratically
00:45against oncoming traffic for 3.5 kilometers, before slamming into the victim's motorcycle.
00:50The motorcyclist, 27-year-old Zulfika Zamir Amirul Nizam, was flung from his bike and suffered
00:57serious injuries. The prosecution pushed for no bail to be granted, calling the offense extremely
01:03serious. If convicted under Section 44, Subsection 1A of the Road Transport Act, Lo faces 7 to 10 years
01:10in prison, a fine of up to 50,000 ringgit and a driving ban of at least seven years. The

01:17appealed for minimum bail, telling the court that Lo is the sole caregiver for his ailing
01:22parents, his mother a diabetic, his father a cancer patient. The magistrate set bail at
01:2810,000 ringgit with one surety. Lo must surrender his driving license and report to the nearest
01:33police station twice a month. Meanwhile, the victim's mother, Hamida Othman, and his fiancée,
01:40Nurul Syafika Ridzwan, who witnessed the proceedings, demanded justice be served.
01:44Hamida revealed that her son has undergone surgery and remains in a coma at Tengku Ampuan
01:50Rahimah Hospital.
