00:00so it's like obviously as a coach right i mean it's such a fluid um job right your job's not
00:05guaranteed that's why it you know there's so much pressure obviously you get paid really well but
00:09like you know results aren't there you're you're out um now like what is there a is there a right
00:15way to handle a sacking or if you're if you're if you're the broncos chairman and board and you're
00:22bringing kevin walters in how are you ending that relationship but also trying to maintain it
00:28ending that relationship as coach but also trying to maintain it as one of the greatest players to
00:32play for the club ever to continue in the future yeah because that person like kevin's great he's
00:38he's part of their history he was such an integral part of their history and made the broncos
00:41what they are today um it the best way it happens is through open communication it's when
00:48the coaches are anything fall out with the ceo or the board or whatever like that because they're
00:52not getting they're not getting full communication look play coaches understand if they're not winning
00:57then they're not going to keep their job um but it's where it's not openly communicated or they
01:04feel like they're being backstabbed or there's whispers in you know in dark corners about what's
01:09happening and that's that's where that's where you get issues and that's where you get former
01:13players offside and the whole gordon gordon tallis thing is is is tragic like i really feel for all
01:19parties because no one's no one's going to win out of this um they did move on from his mate
01:24um
01:25um and kevin walders got michael mcguire i really disagree with how um gordon tallis sort of treated
01:31michael mcguire over that period but he's entitled to feel how he wants um and then how what's you
01:37know everything's been brought about with the boardroom being changed from from gordon tallis and
01:41that that's such a massive shame because you think gordon tallis you think the the broncos and
01:46you really just wish everyone would just put their own feelings aside and just think about what's best for
01:51the organization i i think you know park everyone sort of needs to park their egos and park their
01:57feelings because emotion is important in rugby league but you can't let it override what the end
02:03goal is for the club and the end goal is for the club is is for success yeah 100 look
02:08it's such an
02:09interesting topic and um you know it's the same thing with former players too with regards to
02:14you know i know we're going to talk about it soon with regards to you know old boys days and
02:18coaches and the thing i the thing that you learn in the game as you get older in the game
02:23is that
02:23like the game is a business we've just spoken about coaches if results aren't there like you're you're
02:27out and not everyone has a great relationship with the club or clubs they played for um after their
02:36time at the club has left i mean some players and coaches like we said some get sacked some don't
02:42get
02:42offered contracts some get tapped on the shoulder um and then some choose to leave to sign elsewhere
02:48when they were offered a contract and turn it down so there's all different situations and all
02:53different scenarios um and you know not everyone has or takes the higher road with regards to
02:59putting that stuff aside um and just you know going back to some of the relationships they had
03:05and just sort of moving on i know personally like when i sit here now and you know having played
03:1015 years in the nrl there were some times in my career where the business and i and i know
03:14it
03:14happened to you as well hoffy where it's like the business happens right you don't get offered deals
03:19this and that and whatever but now it's like i'm here and i'm sitting here and i'm like i don't
03:24even
03:24like that stuff's happened i'm not that person anymore i don't live that life anymore i don't
03:29hold grudges at all um i've very much moved on and i'd be happy to go into any any club
03:35talk to any
03:36coach that may have dropped me may have not offered me a contract that's just how i feel personally
03:40i think there's more to life now once you get out of the game you can move on but you're
03:44right it
03:44doesn't it doesn't always happen that way hopefully does it no it doesn't a big example of it was was
03:50what happened at manly um there was a big situation manly with um i think the stewart brothers and
03:55anthony watmau who were part of that great sort of area era that period they sort of fell out with
04:00the club and even though sebold didn't have a lot of success as a coach what he did was he
04:06brought
04:06brett stewart back and sort of mended a lot of those relationships a lot of those relationships
04:10because look they were great enemies of ours the the sea eagles but you really admired for what they
04:17did because they were so tight-knit as a group so and it was sad for the game it was
04:20sad for manly
04:21seeing those players fall out with a club and i'm really heartened that they they seem to have
04:26mended that i'd love to see brett stewart back on the on the sidelines and whatever with manly
04:31because he was so in part of that organization and i'm bringing kieran for him back i think goes a
04:37long way to to mending those those processes because look that's that's what what the fans
04:43remember and a lot of it does come down to the player aspect of it um as a player i
04:49felt like the
04:50game didn't and the club didn't owe me anything um they owed me a wage because i was playing but
04:55i sort
04:55of owed the club and because they were the ones willing to give me a wage and pay me and
05:00give
05:01me a job i owed the club the club didn't sort of owe me anything besides my wage because they
05:06were
05:06giving me the chance to play rugby league and that's what what i wanted to do and look so other
05:11people have different mentalities um around it
05:14you
05:15you
05:15you
05:15you
05:22you
