00:00question as well though it's it's interesting because you can bring a player in but if a former
00:06player but i really believe that player needs to have felt and lived and breathed success at at the
00:11club like i mean i mean proper success to know what it is because sometimes um a club needs a
00:16bit of a circuit breaker um and if they've hadn't had a lot of success in a long time sometimes
00:21they
00:21need that outside influence and look that that happened in melbourne obviously melbourne was only
00:25a very new club when craig bellamy jumped on board but um so they didn't have really have someone
00:30but in saying that now what you look at the melbourne storm with with craig bellamy who's
00:35been there so long had a long successful period of time the next coach for the melbourne storm will
00:40be a melbourne storm person because the culture is so ingrained the culture is so set they want to
00:45keep it going um and they believe and i believe as well it needs to be someone who lived and
00:50breathed
00:51it because pretty much you're getting the keys to ferrari you just don't need to crash it and the
00:55best way by doing that is not just keeping same old and trying to copy craig bellamy and how he
01:01coached but it's keeping what the club is about its fabric its dna and unfortunately those things
01:06sometimes they're not tangible they're not tangible what they are you can't sort of see it but everyone
01:11knows what it is and that that's i've always felt culture whether it's good as bad has been really hard
01:16to break i believe the roosters will do the same thing um obviously the roosters have boyd
01:20cordner in their coaching ranks uh i believe he's going to be the heir apparent um for for trent
01:27robinson um yeah boyd cordner knows what success looks like at that club he knows what the sydney
01:33roosters are he knows what they are and it's interesting another one that came up recently
01:39is quite topical as ivan cleary announced he's stepping down he's going to hand the reins to
01:43peter wallace peter wallace a former player he uh didn't have a lot of success at the club as a
01:48player however he has been a coach within that organization um through its very most successful
01:53period the most successful period for a club ever besides the dragons back in the 60s um so he knows
01:59what it's what it's like and he knows what the fabric of it of it is and i think that's
02:03important
02:04but it's when you pull in a form of just a bloke getting a gig boost because he was a
02:09former player
02:09and there wasn't a lot of success there it's almost what does that look like yeah definitely look
02:14there's no doubt it's a big call look for me i i definitely understand the clubs like you mentioned
02:19the melbourne storm um you know elevating within the panthers elevating within um when you've been
02:24successful for so long and you've got assistants who have been there for so long and have been
02:28ingrained in the dna and a part of the success i think it's um a great thing for clubs to
02:34be able
02:34to elevate guys along with their development as coaches so now obviously not every club can do that
02:40right some clubs have to look elsewhere and some clubs have to bring guys in um you know guys who
02:45aren't a part of the fabric but have also great resumes as coaches so um yeah it's an interesting
02:50topic for mine um what would i prefer um like i've said all along i think it generally comes down
02:56to
02:56best man for the job now i understand like i said um elevating within but if we can find the
03:02best man
03:02for the job who can coach our football team and get results then let's get him in the building and
03:07let's give him the job yeah look because in in the end no one cares if you're winning no one
03:12cares if
03:12the if the coach was a former player or not but as as long as you're getting the results from
03:17the
03:17board so just for like some of the other former players who were involved in assistance at the
03:21clubs you got stacey jones at the warriors tom eisenhooth uh only played at the dragons for a
03:26couple of years but he's involved in the coaching staff at the dragons ryan hinchcliffe at the storm
03:30danny badiris you're still seeing danny running out on the field for the for the newcastle nights and
03:35i was at the west tigers setup visiting a friend of mine pat richards who just jumped on board
03:39as um gm of football for the west tigers also saw they got bronson harrison involved in their
03:44pathways shannon gallant involved in their um in their play at play development and their player
03:51pathways so look it's it's it's great to have those people on board and especially giving those
03:56players involved something to aspire to or something to see and but
04:01yeah
04:08you
